I don’t think I’ve ever done that to a mesmer lol. Honestly.
-You would if they are just next to each other, stressful fight at i.e. lava boss fractal.
There are enough problems with rezzing/stomping getting in the way of what players want to do it seems right that the mesmers clone can be a distraction for both good and bad. Also on that note, if the pet could be rezzed it would just get in the way.
-Guess if it only showed up for the owner of the pet it would be too much?
If you stow pet on the Jade Maw it won’t die. Might try that?
And that would be just fine and dandy if you never ever ever ever took a single point of damage in that fight OR had a proper stow-pet-mechanic.
No I don’t buy your logic. If I can’t rezz my pet in a personal story because people in the beta where everyone was learning the game complained about all the dead pets in WvsW something is wrong, just plain wrong.
I have one Eurantien.
Remember back in the betas when we could rezz our pets?
Remember last time you saw a dead mesmer and accidently started rezzing its clone?
Care to explain why one is rezzable but not the other and you’ll ease my rage.
And no pet micromanagement will save the pet from a 2-in-a-row death-beam from mr. Jade Mouth, so F4 a second time within 20 seconds is not an option
The (obstructed) other (obstructed) problem (obstructed) I (obstructed) have (obstructed) is (obstructed) obstructed (obstructed) but (obstructed) I (obstructed) guess (obstructed) I (obstructed) just (obstructed) switch (obstructed) to (obstructed) melee?
It is because stability does only work against “control effects”…
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Control_effect
chill, cripple & immobilize bypasses stability, it doesn’t make you “loose control” in the same sense… don’t know why, been like this since early betas, it’s not just elementals either, it’s everything that has stability.
Ofcourse there are three things that doesn’t really abide to that rule;
the white buff called “Unshakable”, blue “Determined” and that flaming “Righteous Indignation”
So… not a bug, merely a feature.
Give us back our ability to atleast rezz our own pets, don’t let it clutter up the screen like it used to, just let us (the owners of the pet) be able to rezz our own pet.
Anyone can rezz a downed mesmer clone, yet I cannot rezz my lifetime companion?
Granting us that thing would make pet dying from random aoe because it doesn’t dodge… and lessen the 60 second penalty for switching out a dead pet.
It wouldn’t solve any direct pet issues, just make it tolerable to a point where you don’t break your keyboard in half and punch the screen…
It wouldn’t solve any other issues on the bug list…
Please Anet, make it atleast somewhat bareble to use a pet!
Personally I’d add a new stance “Agressive” in which pets would act just as now, wouldn’t care about aoe what so ever, and add a feature to “Defensive”; where the pet actually would try to get out of aoe.
We know you know how to do it, it’s GW 1 mob AI, pretty please give us something.
Taruvoyant: the “wvsw pants” I was referring to is the last missing part for getting full P/T/V armor, start with yellow for ~12k then switch to badges version if you can be bothered, the difference ain’t that big.
Ijakings: I’d go with something that ups your health a bit since you’d be getting healing power but no health pool to use it =)
Short answer;
Yes, tried it. Don’t.
Long answer;
Even with going all in damage and big numbers on the screen you are only really useful on keep/tower defences, and only if you aren’t around some red-circle-aggro-magnet-norn-elementalist.
The time you spend dodging out of circles and back in again you loose out on damage that could have been soaked with pow/vit/tou karma gear & wvsw legs.
Sure you loose a few % crit, but guess what? you run with 67% crit chance with zerker jewelry & weapon and the (more-or-less) constant fury buff up… even without fury; ~47%….
So instead of going all-in glass cannon that only really boosts your crit damage by 16% and giving you a silly amount of crit rating let’s check some alternatives.
I’m assuming full zerker exotic jewelry and a zerker exotic longbow with appropriate sigil aswell as runes for the followinging rant;
“temple armor”
power/vitality/toughness :
same damage output, lower critrate, higher health (3,5k), more toughness (420-430-ish.. less dmg from direct attacks, higher effective health).
precision/vitality/healing:
lower base damage (you don’t want that for “doing max dmg”), same critrate as glass cannon (ridiculously high), healing (that will most definetly keep you up)… I’d classify this as “poo” for WvsW longbow all-in dmg build (very good for other things mind you)
precision/toughness/condition damage;
You are using a longbow. Condition damage will only ever help your traited “chance on bleed on crit” and if you use some kind of DoT sigil…. along with lower damage, this is poo once again for WvsW.
Armor from crafting/Trading post;
Toughness/healing power/condition damage;
no power, got condition damge, this is a no-go aswell
power/vitality/condition damage;
two out of three aint bad, but condition damage makes this one a no-go
power/toughness/healing power;
interesting, atleast 3/3 useful stats.
power/precision/magic find;
magic find… yeah right… NEXT!
toughness/healing power/boon duration;
uhm… no power… next!
vitality/healing power/condition damage;
no. just no.
power/precision/toughness
mmm well… less damage taken vs. 16% crit damage? wish you could get crit dmg with toughness :/
I could go on, but you have a atleast two other options to go instead of pure berserker;
power/vit/toughness – keeps you alive long enough to kill people, sometimes you go out victorious in a 3vs1 fight
power/toughness/healing power – see previous, and your heals aren’t crapastic either!
your choice, do you opt for getting the biggest numbers on the screen for actually surviving long enough to make use of the full duration of lightning reflexes & pet switch? … dead ppl loose on the dps-meter
And if you are set in stone for “screw it, I’m going all in”… you are dead meat for anything that finds you out in the open and you will feel that you wasted a ton of materials on crafting those “good stuff”, and rest asure… you will not find it funny doing dungeons/fractals either :/
/rant off
TLDR: go with the standard P/V/T gear scattered in Orr and top off with WvsW pants.
When I first did Arah story long ago I was baffled, I spent a good 20 minutes looking for that guy giving you that classic guild wars end-game-token-to-trade-for-item-of-your choosing…
I didn’t even get to choose the looks/stats of it?
I’m not saying that exotic is the way to go, but choice rather, to us to choose what kind of stuff we want… you know… like that other game… what was it’s name… oh right Guild Wars :/
One could also say that these 4 maps are in the mists and not in our world, Caudecus’s Manor is in our world but doesn’t count… odd isn’t it?
But you can always check out
http://mos.millenium.org/matchups#EU
Pick a server that is currently dominating the other one, make use of “free server transfer every 24 hours” and go on a running hike…. that is if your server is bad and they still got the free transfers
First: Fix the sodding skill bugs, pet bugs, trait bugs, obstructed piece of “&%&”%¤& bug -this goes for ALL classes btw just not rangers.
Then: Start balance the WORKING game.
-You can’t balance broken.
Do spiders actually manage to hit moving targets now?
With their F2? nope.
With their basic attacks? sometimes, unless the target makes a double take :/
Hammer / Axe+Warhorn warrior + shortbow / Axe+warhorn since release, works really well… bolas, fear me, bull’s charge, whatever elite and for the ranger; muddy terrain, protect me, (stun breaker of your choice), entangle.
(power toughness vit gear, soldiers jewelery & runes)
100-blades warrior meet the bunker/lockdown team.
pff signet of the hunt… Muddy Terrain fellow rangers, once you learned how/when to use it you really dont want to switch it out ever….
let other ppl have their 25% running speed, juggle your inventory and pop out a warhorn when you engage someone and quickly change it to something else…
-So what if he/she runs away from you, then you just get left in the dust? you didn’t think about that!!!
Why did you let her/him get away in the first place? Unless it’s a D/D ele then you really cant do anything EVEN WITH the signet… because 33% > 25% and ride the lightning & teleport makes them go into warp speed.
You’ve got pets to CC, weapon skills to cripple/chill/stun, utility skills to cripple/root/immobilize, you really dont need the speed…. besides, a fair deal of classes with specific weapon setups can’t even ATTACK when immobilized/rooted… and yes lots of people can break out of it eles, mesmers & warriors in particular always seem to have some “jump-away-from-root-and-unleash-pain-in-your-face-skill” but that’s what dodge is for or… just chain CC the sucker and kill him (just don’t, DO NOT use longbow skill #4 when you have them locked down, you’ll just free them and then all your ranger buddies will giggle and laugh as you get teared a new one….)
Just wanted to point out that the ranger might be the “king of crowd control” and if you put some time and effort and really really emphasise it, the results are quite fun… you might not get the biggest numbers, but you sure as heck won’t die from a bolas-bulls charge-frenzy-hit button 2-then-f-warrior
Seems a lot of the combo fields (you can test this yourself with a spider pet) increases the “obstructed” on a stationary mob hitting your face in melee…
Interesting, although if I might suggest something, switch offhand training for HIPS or oakheart (well maybe more oakheart since you have nature’s bounty)
but.. it boils down to… where are you going to use this? dungeons? fractals? sPvP? story? WvsW ? what do you define as “hard fight” ? I’m a bit confused.
Also… are you or your pet going to tank? or are you switching back and forth?
I personally feel that traiting HIPS fills the role of stunbreaker most of the times, leaving you with an optional slot for lightning reflexes, maybe renewal as no matter where you go you (or your pet) gets conditions on you, and it also serves as an “oh crap” when tanking say… broodmother or a few dungeon bosses, also gives you the ability for mass purge your group (as well as stun break if you are in a pinch)… I feel your condition removal will suffer… since you are in the thick of things and dont have Empathic Bond :/
I’m a sucker for 30 WS, can’t get rid of those points no matter the occation
You might want to consider axe on your offhand (going axe/warhorn) save 5 for when you can switch back, and you got some ranged abilities along with weakness on uhm… 3? think it’s 3… from your pet.
maybe consider sigil of blood (think it’s blood, I’m not ingame to check, it’s the one with life steal) if you go with berserker gear…. or… water… but you’d have to go for cleric (or the other forgot it’s name) gear for it to be moderately useful.
But… depends on where you are going and what your group setup is as you have clearly stated… there is some wiggle room for “protect me” aswell
Anyway hope you got something from this rant, and if you do I’d love to hear about it!
Oh OBSTRUCTED all OBSTRUCTED in OBSTRUCTED all OBSTRUCTED it OBSTRUCTED was OBSTRUCTED an OBSTRUCTED ok OBSTRUCTED patch…. but seriously…. faster arrows just yields more “obstructed” nor the “out of range” while in melee range sadly…
oh and btw… OBSTRUCTED!
//ranger moth balled yet another month.

It’s not about buffing the class, it’s making it work as intended, I’m happy you are happy with your ranger.
Fair point Oldgrimm, that leaves the new “out of range” bug spam introduced dec 3 & the lazy pet.
But on the other hand, the projectile path of the shortbow has been altered since the “animation fix”… instead of hitting people in the chest/head at max range you hit their legs/ancles. Revert changes and re-solve that animation glitch…
An official statement if “out of range” and “obstructed” is something we just have to deal with or if you (Areanet) are indeed aware of the problem?
Rumors say that a patch is 8 days away, and I fear if these issues are left ignored without well..
a) (what we rangers hope) – a fix
or more realisticly;
b) a statment saying something like “ok, ok, we are investigating this, calm down, as soon as we know more we’ll let you know”.
Because the silence is honestly to [insert divinity of your choosing] making people feel well… let’s face it.. betrayed by (name witheld but everyone knows who).
Now I know a mere mortal cannot “demand an answer”, I’m just saying… the ranger bug list is 67, sixty seven (!) bullet points long, and that was updated a month ago, there are many new bugs that hasn’t been added to the list.
New spam detected in this patch, “out of range” on mobs 2 meters infront of me.
Awesome!
All Ranger traps cooldowns are set to 25 seconds.
it’s been fixed i’m pretty sure
Yup, fixed.
Since the “new improved ranger love patch” cough spirits are supposed to have a 50% procc chance, the skill tooltip haven’t been updated, the blinking icon in the buff row does show it however…
Some testing how many times you have to hit random mobs outside LA, note that once it procs, I turn 180 and let the buff expire;
1,3,3,4,5,5,4,3,7,3,5,8,7,4,5,10,4,1,5,7,1,7,2,4
Someone with more patience than me needs to try this and run this thru a “heads-or-tails”-probability, it sure doesn’t feel like 50% chance….
Blind affects all Entangle targets, working as intended? In my mind only the “first” person to get hit by it would be countered by blind, all others rooted.
Best spot to duplicate;
Any supply camp in WvsW really…
