We’ve introduced a beta version of a 64-bit client for Guild Wars 2. Please review the following FAQ for more information:

What is the 64-bit client?
It is an alternative to the 32-bit client currently used to play the game. Aside from some technical details, the two are identical in functionality.

What does it mean that the client is 64-bit?
Modern computers generally have one of two types of processors: 32-bit, or 64-bit. 32-bit processors can only execute 32-bit applications, while 64-bit processors can execute both 32-bit and 64-bit applications. The fact that the client is 64-bit means that it is intended to be executed on 64-bit processors.

What are the benefits over the 32-bit client?
64-bit applications have a significantly higher limit on how much memory they are able to use compared to 32-bit applications. Due to this, the main benefit is significantly less “out of memory” crashes.

What are the requirements of using the 64-bit client?
Your computer needs to have a 64-bit processor, and your operating system must also be 64-bit. To find out whether you fulfill these requirements, please refer to Microsoft’s Knowledge Base. If you are using Windows 10 you may follow the steps for Windows 8, and replace the first step with simply clicking the search button in the task bar.
Please note that we do not support 64-bit Windows XP.

How do I get the 64-bit client?
Log in to account.arena.net and go to the Game Content page. Under “Other Clients” you will find a button that says “Windows 64-bit [Beta]”. Press that button and then follow the instructions in the next paragraph for installing the executable. Installing the 64-bit client is a manual process and is recommended only for people familiar with Windows folder management.

I already have the 32-bit client; will I have to completely download the game again?
No. The 64-bit client uses the same data as the 32-bit client. If you already have the game installed, you can follow these instructions to avoid needing to reinstall the game:

  • Download the 64-bit client.
  • Copy the downloaded program into your Guild Wars 2 game folder.
  • Update any shortcuts to the game to point to the new file instead.
This process will be automatic once we get out of beta.

Are the two clients mutually exclusive?
No. If you have both installed (or copied to the same folder as outlined in “I already have the 32-bit client; will I have to completely download the game again?”), you may launch either client as you see fit.

Does the 64-bit client only benefit players with more than 4 GB of system memory?
No. It is true that the 32-bit client in theory can access up to 4 GB of memory. In practice however this is almost never the case, due to gaps in the address space that slowly build up over time (known as fragmentation). Most players crashing today due to being “out of memory” are actually only using between 3 and 3.5 GB of their system memory.

In addition to this, modern operating systems use something known as “virtual memory” to extend the available memory beyond what the system has physically. The 64-bit client will allow you to benefit from the increased address space by making gaps largely irrelevant, and will allow the client to use more memory than it could otherwise rather than crashing.

Are there any performance differences between the 64-bit and 32-bit client?
There may be some very slight differences in favor of either client depending on your computer’s configuration. In the vast majority of cases it should be negligible.

Why is the 64-bit client using more memory than the 32-bit client?
Due to the technical differences between the two platforms the memory usage will never be directly comparable.

Is there a 64-bit Mac client?
Unfortunately, a 64-bit Mac client is not available at this time. We are hoping to be able to provide one in the future, but have no timeline to provide it.

[Suggestion]Useful Magic Find

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Elrey.5472

Elrey.5472

Let’s be honest here, almost nobody gets something good out of mobs. Of course there is exceptions and some people get precursors, but in the most part Magic find is a waste because the loot is not affected by magic find.

That’s what most people thinks nowadays, and even if that is not true (because obviously magic find indeed help us to get a little better loot), that’s what we think. We only cap magic find as it was another achievement, not because we know in our hearts that we will get something better. We will still get crap out of most of our loot.

But what if we problem that we face is not statistical, but it’s psichological? Leave behind the statistics for a seconds and what happens is a simple fact of discouraging due to the fact that magic find doesn’t affect Chests or Bags.
Most people farming aren’t just killing enemies, their focus is entirely on getting bags, getting chests or something simillar. I understand that how it works now it’s by design to make everyone have the same chances, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a good design.

So here’s my suggestion: Update magic find to affect chests and bags.

Cons

  • Probably you need to tweak a lot of code.
  • Might sound unfair to fresh new players.
    • (But it’s actually now unfair to veterans in most of the cases. Watching a new player getting a really good weapon while you might be 100 days getting kitten just because your chances are same as low doesn’t really keep you encouraged to keep playing).

Pros

  • By making magic find useful, people that wants better chances can actively work towards it by increasing their magic find. And people that doesn’t want can just ignore it, the player can choose.
  • The new players as well will get better items while they are increasing their magic find, that’s true progression and would feel fine instead of feel discouraged when they realize that chests aren’t affected by it.

Any feedback is welcome, and i might add more cons or pros in the future depending on the posts of this thread.

New player: too many coats as medium armor

I know im still leveling, but as an engineer norn its depressing to be bound to coats the entire trip. Im lvl 51 and have been in mid to long jacket since level 1. My elementalist friend has had varied outfits and actually got to see his pants.

Im hoping they allow medium armor to be more diverse going forwards…and it’d be nice to see something other than coats during the leveling journey.

Guild Halls , Please , we need them back

I know our guild can`t be the only one who misses it`s home , it was our focal point, our home away from the irritation of masses of other players at outposts, the place we grouped up for missions, just hung out and chatted , transformed into random creatures and chased each other around , held guild events like giveaways with our allied guilds.

The loss of guild halls and the fact that members are spread over several servers have been the biggest 2 contributors to the loss of that collective family feeling we had in GW1 , the introduction of the repping/non repping feature and being in 2 or 3 guilds at the same time as some people are has added to that.

Yes i know we could select a specific outpost and say this is our guild meeting spot, but it`s not the same, and if your char hasn`t mapped that location, they can`t access it via wp.

Give us our spiritual homes back, make them accessible to characters upon creation , give us the option to buy the upgrades just the way we did in GW1 , bring back that feeling we had of being something special.

An Ingame Represantation of WoodenPotatoes

My suggestion would be that the popular YouTube Lore Guru WoodenPotatoes receives and ingame representation of his character, akin to Siegemaster Dulfy, in honor of his extensive work in summarizing the events of GW 1, making tutorial videos and his ongoing record keeping of the Guild Wars 2 lore.

For those who don’t know who WoodenPotatoes is, I want to direct you to his YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/WoodenPotatoes/videos?view=1&flow=grid

If you know WP, or just heard about his channel for the first time, and agree with this, please show some support to let Anet know.

I made a reddit post about the same topic beforehand and it got a lot of support basically in an instant: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1k7tvx/petition_ingame_representation_of_woodenpotatoes/

An idea for Commander tags.

I’m not sure if this has been posted before, but I’d rather just post it and not check.

If Anet ever gets around to updating commander tags, one thing they should include is a guild commander tag. A guild tag would be assigned by the guild, (Say you buy it in architecture and then anyone from [insert rank here] can use it). When they are done, they put it back. What makes this special is that only the guild can see it, so it can be less of a personal expense. There have been times when my guild wants to do a fun run or so through wvw, and commander tags are so nice for that sort of thing, but if we are having fun and not being serious, people who just see tags and follow them get confused, and we end up getting backlash. Also, when doing guild events, if you are a small guild trying to get started, it’s great to have another option rather than 100g.

Just a thought. Pick it apart and see if it can be helpful.

What Eternity Should Look Like

As I have been reading from many people now, even with the small changes to the super legendary sword Eternity most owners of the sword are quite underwhelmed. Let me tell you I have been playing this game from release, and for me to just finish this weapon and see the exact same look of sunrise and twilight just kinda makes it seem less legendary than having sunrise and twilight separate. Yes the foot falls were nice, but having black fire and black footprints while wielding sunrise in the daytime looks very weird at least for me. I have to say I would expect no less from Anet seeing their fantastic art team to create an entirely original skin for the much neglected Eternity. I mean its name is Eternity for petes sake! That name alone cries out for its own unique look. So what I have done tonight is create my own idea of how I would love Eternity to look. I hope you Devs take a good look at this post and I especially hope they like my idea and use it in the future for Eternity. If you guys like my rendition of Eternity Bump this post and leave comments so that the devs can see and maybe take it into consideration The file is attached to this post, tell me what you guys think

P.S. don’t comment about other legends needing attention, in my opinion all legendary’s are fine, I am only disappointed with Eternity simply because it is the only one of a kind super legendary in the game..you work for 2 which is ALLOT of work and you get what you already had only you are at the beck and call of night and day..to me eternity is a step down from sunrise and twilight in its current state.

Guild Leader Tag

I was thinking it might be very beneficial to input a guild leader tag, that functions very similiar to the commander tag. It could be used to manage big guild events much easier, whether the guild is going through temples, running a guild group in WvW, or doing guild bounties. This would help guilds being able to run easier in WvW without affecting the other commanders with an extra commander tag. This would also help a ton in guild bounties, letting guild leaders have the ability to see where your whole guild is, in order to run guild bounties much more efficiently.

Or let us increase Shortbow range with the Eagle Eye trait. =) I wouldn’t mind that! =D

I change the OP in favour of the conclusionary post which reflects the consensus of the players and which I accept:

The common suggestion for the increase of shortbow range from 900 back to 1200 to be achievable via traits is a sensible one. This may be by adding it to “Eagle Eye” or by the introduction of a specific shortbow trait – but in any case it would allow people to choose whether to invest in shortbow range or not.

Those investigating alternative builds and weapon combinations can continue to do so. Those who have invested effort in aquiring The Dreamer will at least have an opportunity to benefit properly from their investment.

I would ask the community to unite behind this suggestion as the best way of having a chance of influencing the developers. All heated debate about the virtues of bows vs other weapons, what is meant by “Ranger” and how the real-life capabilites of shortbows compare with longbows would thankfully be rendered null & void.

Arenanet just need to work out the details.
