Fireball, whaaaaat!?

I don’t normally take to the forums, but as others have said, this looks aesthetically awful. Flinging little hot pebbles at people doesn’t only look bad, but it feels bad as an Elementalist, and a big part of any game (particularly one with a progression system) is making the player feel powerful and effective.

Personally, I never found visual clutter from elementalists to be an issue, particularly when you’ve got people running around with enormous rainbow swords, and Guardians spraying light all over the place. I understand why visual clutter might need to be reduced, and I know Arenanet wants to improve the PvP scene, but this seems like not only the wrong target but entirely the wrong way to attempt to fix it.

The Exalted lore!

Lets be honest, one dimensional morality defines at least the bulk if not the entirety of GW2’s character writing. Kind of frustrating when shades of grey could make it so much more interesting.

I completely agree, it’s very frustrating, especially when you look back at the previous game/expansions and wonder what happened. From what I understand some of the story for GW2 was rushed, but surely by now they should’ve gotten over that? That all said, this is probably not all that constructive or pertinent to the original purpose of the thread, and so I’ve done my best not to get carried away.

I don’t intend to get caught up in the moral debate regarding the Mursaat’s intentions because I haven’t studied the lore to the same degree as I expect most of you have. Although I do have my own opinions on the matter, and I’m sure they’ll color what I have to say below, the purpose of this post is not to become involved in that debate.

That said, these exalted seem to be more or less the most uninteresting option available for a “new race”, and I don’t fully understand why Anet decided to go forward with them. The most interesting parts of the original Prophecies story line were those where shades of gray existed, or where factions proved to have more depth than was initially clear. The Mursaat and White Mantle with their attempts to stop the Titans being the foremost example, but also consider that Vizier Khilbron originally stood out as a good (if shady) guy, and the Ascalonian-Charr war went from being a bloodthirsty invasion to a religiously and ancestrally motivated reconquista. Meanwhile the least interesting faction was probably the Stone Summit, who were evil because they were xenophobic, and they were xenophobic for no clear reason. Why would a mostly isolated race breed fanatical grassroots xenophobia leading to brutal civil war? No idea.

So now we’re presented with the Exalted who seem one-dimensional in the extreme, and I can only hope that Arenanet decides to do something more compelling with them, but my expectations aren’t too high. There’re a lot of opportunities to take the races, and minor races, in interesting directions.

Seriously the old login screen was beautiful.

Ah, thank you.
I had seen that video before, but it is very generic. I can see why they dropped it in favor of the launcher they use now, due to how patching is done in GW2 as opposed to how it was on-demand content downloading in GW1. It was just that I see people speaking so highly of this old screen and how amazing, incredible and creative it was, I was expecting something amazing, incredible and creative and worth speaking highly of. Oh well.

I agree though with the sentiment that both the launcher and the character select screen are begging for some creative and graphical attention.

I don’t see why it’s generic, personally. Sure, login screens themselves are fairly generic, but that’s because you generally need one to log into a game. The current option clearly provides an alternative, but it’s hardly an attractive one. The old login breaks the trend of game logins having a rendered in-game background, or a motionless menu, and replaces them with some of the concept art that so heavily influenced the development of this game. On top of that, it includes the actual GW2 theme which you rarely hear anywhere else.

I think it provided a real sense of scale and professionalism, while the new version seems somewhat cheap and almost breaks immersion before the game even begins.

The original login was amazing! If only it was still an option… is there any legitimate reason why it shouldn’t, or couldn’t, be?

Performance Issues

Issues similar to this one seem to be commonplace, but since each is unique to its own system and circumstances I figure I may as well post my own. Since the beta I’ve had significant performance issues, with my FPS going as low as 6 during normal gameplay. My system, however, exceeds the minimum requirements by far and so theoretically I shouldn’t be having any issues. Performance decreased exponentially in the presence of others, including NPCs, but increased drastically when looking at the ground, sky, or other areas devoid of many objects. Initially I assumed that optimization had yet to occur, and later issued a support ticket. The ticket was inconclusive, and the time I’ve spent searching for a solution online has also proven fruitless. I’m fairly convinced that this is a CPU issue, and so have considered overclocking to combat the presumed CPU deficiency, but would prefer not to have to do so due to the risks involved. Thus, I’ve turned here. I’ve included my system specs in a link below, so any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, if there is any additional information that I can provide, just ask and I’ll do my best to comply.

Thanks!
