why shooting gallery challange sucks

There is only one thing to say – Shame on you ArenaNet for locking mastery points behind mini games!
Why would anyone like to play a game that locks you out from being able to enjoy all the new mastery abilities?

There are 129 mastery points available in HOT, you need 114 for all the HOT mastery tracks.

Yes, I know that. I also know that here are 31 mastery points from the mini games and 1 from Tarir challenge winner. 129 ./.32 = 97.

of those 32, you can get half of them really easy, just get gold in the babys mini games and in the difficult ones try to get silver (not so difficult)

in VB only shotting gallery its a pain in the kitten , with a little of practice you can get silver

in AB you got 2 games that with a little of practice you get gold fast, the rest you can aim silver with not too much problem.

in TD, ley-line run, bettle feast and drone race, the same thing: a little of practice and you get gold.

with that you are more than ready, also you can toss another 12 points with not getting nuhoch alchemy, the most useless mastery.

What seems to be easy for you might not be easy for everyone. For me it is impossible to do fast-paced, single-mini games. I can’t even score bronze in the “babys mini games”.

The game will never be balanced around the lowest denominator, sorry.

It shouldn’t be balanced around the assumption that everyone is a veteran arcade era player either.
No, minigames do not need to be made easier – but locking mastery points behind them when there’s not enough of alternatives was a bad decision.

There are enough alternatives. If you can’t do ANY adventure, then it’s a L2P issue.

Phy, what alternatives are you referring to?

I don’t think it was a wise decision to hide mastery points behind mini games. It should be optional and a choice for those that enjoys them.

Mastery Points

Doing all events in all maps is very much mastering different aspects of the game and I don’t see a problem with being rewarded with a mastery point when manage to level up. Going up and down all over the maps to find mastery points using a guide from Dulfy or YouTube is not more mastering different aspects in the game than doing all events to gain experience to level up a charater. Replaying a story is not mastering different aspect the game; it’s only doing things we were not allowed to do at first run. To many mastery points are locked behind mini games and that is very discouraging when not able to play them. There are several reasons for not being able to play mini games that have a short timer attached to them. The real achievement in this expansion is to do the same event over and over.

Fully agree with you Snoring Sleepwalker. I dont think HoT turned out well. Focusing around events is boring and there should be options. Those mini games are always locked when I have the time to play. For me events are boring, unchallenging, braindeath and I instantly loose my good mood.

Yes, HoT is focused around groups and events. There is not much more than event farming in HoT. It is possible to explore the maps solo but masteries are needed to fully explore the maps.

I understand your concern that you might missing out on much if skipping the expansion. I dislike HoT very much but have the feeling that it is going to be needed in the future. The story is good but unfortunately masteries has to be unlocked to be able to play.

I don’t call them adventures, it’s mini games. I agree, why are the mini games blocked. It’s irritating. I want to be able to play them when I have the time.

Sad with HoT

To be fair, “old GW2” was dated, extremely easy (after many nerfs), and didn’t really offer much exploration anyway with all the waypointing going on.

I can still go to newbie zones and almost one shot mobs despite downscaling, and even the mobs in Orr can’t seem to take any HP from me.

That said, don’t run the new maps in glass builds, and if there’s two of you that should be enough. Me and my wife have no trouble wiping out huge groups of mobs on the new maps as long as we are careful about what we are doing. No, its not casual gameplay, but they told everyone it wouldn’t be to begin with.

This is end-game content that everyone has asked for. The only disappointing thing is how much it took away from the core game and how finicky all of the new content is in regards to ping times, lag and frame rates.

If you’re really having trouble just get a guild.

I did not ask for this end-game content. Please speak for yourself.

End-game content can be a lot of things and not only events. I had hope for HoT to be more than just boring event farming.

How would you rate the HoT Fun Factor?

0 fun factor.
The story seems interesting if I ever will manage to unlock enough mastery to progress the story. Exploring the new maps is impossible if you have not unlocked the masteries. There is no content in Hot providing enough experience if not participating in the events. Running in an event train is not challenging, not exciting or stimulating. The mini games seems always to be locked but it doesn’t matter as if I wanted to play mini games I can do that on my mobile. HoT could have been so much more than only event trains.

Not a fan of Masteries.

Marcus Greythorne what is your definition of grinding?

For me grinding means repeating for example the same events over and over in order to gain enough experience so I can unlock the abilities needed to fully explore the new areas.

I have only seen events in the betas. I don’t know if there will be other content than those events. I don’t know how far the story is going to take us when it comes to gaining experience. What I know is that it is going to take a lot of experience to unlock gliding, mushroom jumping and unlock secret locations. If I have to repeat the same events over and over in order to gain enough experience for necessary abilities needed to explore new area I consider that grinding. I hope there will be other ways than doing events.

If you have information about other content in HoT than the events I kindly ask you to share.

I’m not a parent myself but my nephews played and I thought I had to keep an eye on what they were doing. I am 56 years old and I really enjoy playing GW2.

So rangers, How do you all feel now?

I would have preferred the new specialization for rangers to be something else than babysitting.

I don’t have the personal storyline “Forewarned is Forearmed” and I don’t have any free slots for new chars.

The suggestion to move the Lightning bugs in Idea Incubation lab to home instance would solve the problem.

As ArenaNet probably gets a lot of reports about the conflict I hope they take action. Lets hope it will be soon as this is unpleasant for both farmers and achievement hunters.

Have waited a very long time for my turn to do achievement at that spot in Rata Sum but it is always farmers there. I would like to be able to advance with my torch but it is impossible. I do hope we can find a solution so we can share the place.
