Wasn’t that fun, Gaile?

Better keep your eye on future updates, especially the stuff that slips in under the “to make things easier for new players” category. The community has gotten a little grumpy since the build up to the China expansion and the lack of communication during that time period. Expect push back for any more changes that seem counter intuitive, even if there was good reasoning behind them.

Wish you the best, and hope the Frog makes a return someday.

Gaile, I think someone really wanted to test your skills by dropping this monster in your lap. Hopefully in the future you can help the dev teams to release at least one update cycle without inserting an unannounced “feature” that makes everyone go nuts.

The simple fix will be to adjust the increments… perhaps to match the ones for gold in the column sitting right there to the left. My brain actually screamed staring at those columns side by side.

Just to throw in a personal note, I’ve been buying gems in allotments of 25. It was like putting money in a piggy bank. I swear the first thing I did when I opened that UI was look for a 25 gems button.

I do think the community loves this game, but mistakes like these really hurt. Good luck, Gaile.

New Weapons/Skills: Unlock previously unavailable weapons through quests/challenges given by a Weapon Master NPC for each weapon type.

Hall of Monuments: Use the HoM as a visual display of achievements as well as a place to access unlocked skins. The portal should take you to Lion’s Arch and the exit instance UI should take you back to where you were before using the portal doodad.

Skill Switching: Create an account wide progression for unlocking switchable stats on gear.

As an aside… Why did you put stats besides damage range and defense on weapons and armor anyway? Also, don’t do Hard Mode. I was not a fan. The only good it ever did in GW1 was make normal mode easier.

A REAL cartography achievement, not this go to X point then bounce to Y point, etc. GW1’s cartography demanded you visit maps and corners of maps that otherwise were ignored because there wasn’t really anything (quests) in them. A player had to become very familiar with the entire region, and it took a bit of time. Trust me, some of those spots are every bit as gorgeous as anything in GW2, and it was a joy to discover and explore. It enabled a player to even connect a few lore dots with the discovery of statues or other ‘oddities’ in outlying areas previously populated perhaps but abandoned, similar to how some of the POIs work now. The current POI and Vista system cheats the player, in my opinion, of having this sort of experience.

(Connected to that is the incessant spawn which makes simple enjoyment of an area possible. I understand this is now a persistent world rather than the instanced one of the original game, but still. I shouldn’t have to kill foe every 10 seconds just to have a good look at a particular piece of map!)

I enjoy the current version of cartographer better than the GW1 version. It was down right insanity having to scrape every little edge of the map and hope you didn’t miss something. There were even hacks to make it easier to complete just because it was a pain.

I will agree that the spawn rate in most zones is way too fast. Its especially bad in tunnels where you gets spawns popping up behind you before you even get the path cleared out.

I miss the heroes from GW1 and I don’t play dungeons because I have to group with other people. Would it be possible to unlock heroes that could be used instead of living players to run dungeons. Perhaps scale rewards by the number of real players. I mostly just want to see the content… not necessarily for the rewards.

Also I like the idea of gaining dungeon tokens through some other means in the zone containing the dungeon. Perhaps certain quest chains or creature kills could have a chance to drop them.

Yes, a PvE skin locker would be grand. My vote is for utilizing the Hall of Monuments as a place to store such things. In general we need a way to collect and reuse the skins we acquire. I love being able to get skins out of the HoM. It’s a system that works well and should be expanded upon.

Soulbound should go away… yadda yadda yadda.

More weapons… specifically a way to unlock weapons that currently cannot be used by specific professions. Perhaps a personal story line that is profession specific to unlock the use of the other weapon types. Or perhaps a master of each weapon type that can be trained under to unlock the types.

Dedicated minipet ui where you can select any pet stored in the collection and has a hide option.

A menagerie to collect pets and wildlife (ambient creatures).

A slot outside of inventory to store each type of weapon. Say for an elementalist, a slot for staff, one for scepter, dagger main hand, dagger off hand, etc. Then you check which one you want active. For professions with weapon switching you’d check two sets. Haven’t thought it all the way through, but the point being to have a compete set up weapons not sitting in your inventory where they might be accidentally salvaged or sold. Also it’d give an excuse to collect all the available weapon types.

Elite skill capture a la GW1.

Vanquishing of some sort. Zones or instances where the blasted baddies don’t respawn. But do one better that GW1 and put something on the map showing the locations of the last few mobs. It should be about killing out the baddies not spending an hour hunting that last one hiding in a corner somewhere.

This isn’t about progression… but could you please make it so the PvE map shows where the other players in the zone are? I’d like to know where everyone is without having to be in a group first. Different color dots for guildies would be nice too.

Achievements related to non-playable races/groups. Say a friend of the skritt or hylek achievement. Maybe it gives you access to special areas with discounted vendors, skin sellers, or something.

Farming… as in your own area of farming nodes. Like once you collect say 250 of a certain type of cooking supply you can create a seed to plant a node in your own personal farm field. I don’t know, just a wild idea.

I like the idea of a book that you can fill with hearts completed in the PvE zones. I redo hearts on alts all the time, but it seems like it’d be neat to have a way to redo them on characters that have already completed them. Perhaps they could be turned in for a little bit of gold, experience, karma or the like.

Dyes should be account bound and provide a way to see which dyes are missing from the collection (and allow a way to preview the un-obtained dyes).

A monster model viewer, perhaps tied to the slayer achievement line.

I think that’s it. Anyone like these ideas?

First, I think a new thread for Horizontal Progression is a good idea.

Second, when you start the thread give us a really good definition of horizontal progression as it is understood by you folks.

Hopefully that will help guide the discussion constructively.

Okay, I’ve been chewing on this thought all day. On Ascended Armor gaining stat switching…

What if you increased the drop rate and availability of ascended armor pieces (with no sigils, runes or other upgrades). Then provide a way to merge two pieces of the same type but with different stat sets, creating one piece with the ability to switch between the stats. As the pieces gain more stats to switch between, add a stronger visual effect (perhaps a certain color for each stat set). Guess you could make a mystic forge recipe to merge the pieces, some new gem doodad or modify how the transmutation crystals work.

Anyway, had to get that thought out of my head.

I guess you could do the same thing with ascended weapons too. I’ve just been focused on armor. The main idea is instead of transmuting a bit from one item and a bit from another, ascended items merge to become stronger.

Okay, I’m done for now.

Here’s my 2 cents…

I like the idea of Ascended Armor gaining stat switching that you unlock for each stat combination with the armor becoming “Legendary” once you’ve unlocked them all (adding some kind of visual effect no matter what skin you’ve applied to it).

Soulbinding needs to go away in general.

Named exotic weapons should be bumped up to ascended.

Ascended armor acquisition needs to be easier, cheaper and acquired through more various means, etc.

I think the Hall of Monuments needs to be leveraged as a place to visualize achievement progression. As you accomplish more achievements the Hall of Monuments should reflect your progress.

This would be a great place for a skin unlocker location. Perhaps we give Kimmes the Historian certain tokens or skins and they’ll be added to a new tab in his dialog. That way we can pull the skin out any time we like.

I want more opportunities to collect things, but I’d like to use the items without them disappearing from the collection. You can still use transmutation stones/crystals as a currency in the exchange to Kimmes. Put a Portal in Lion’s Arch and make use of that great location.

We need more weapon types available for the professions. Perhaps make gaining new weapon types part of an event chain. I think the goal should be for all professions to be able to use all weapon types.

Also elite skill capping needs to make a return in some form. Kill a certain boss and get a prize. Even if its a PvE only skill, but something to give us a hunt the boss type collection game.

Another collection style improvement would be a story book library where you can rewatch old cinematics. Something else for the Hall of Monuments. It’d be great if you could use them to replay an instance of the story.

We need a bestiary with a model viewer. Some kind of Asuran gadget to view the amazing animations of the enemies we’re always too busy killing to appreciate. More gotta collect them all.

Along the same lines, a menagerie to collect not just ranger pets but ambient animals in the game. Some kind of animal capture mini-game mechanic where once caught they show up in the menagerie.

One last thing… the return of the ghost of Nicholas the Traveler and the Professor. A weekly or monthly scavenger hunt or living story arc. Let’s hunt for something that improves our characters in some way or gives cool skins.
