^ haha I didn’t realise that was a thing. To be fair though, if people wanna run around in their underwear, they’ll do it regardless of whether there are capes in the game or not!
… and yeah, I know how to use google but those threads are 3-4 months old – no one is going to read them. So rather than resurrect an old thread, I made a new one just to remind Anet that they need to start working on capes NAO.
(Thanks for the links though)
No probs.
With Strength in Numbers, your Toughness is increased when you get into combat. Try attacking something first and then opening your ‘Hero’ panel – you’ll be able to tell straight away if the buff has been applied as your Toughness value will have turned green. (Yes, like AH, the trait affects yourself as well as allies).
Edit: Obviously, the increase to Toughness is removed once you’re out of combat.
Hi, I noticed a couple of people asking what armour my Charr guardian is wearing. It’s the T3 Charr Cultural armour. Sorry for the late reply; I’ve not been on the forums for a while. Please PM me if you have any questions lol.
That right there is what I call a good Charr or a BEAST o3o I love how the armor just makes it look even more fierce and merciless!
Hehe, thanks! It’s had to find a decent-looking armour set for Charrs but you can’t go wrong with some good old cultural armour.
I like your armour setup too btw. :P Jelly of that shield lol – I haven’t got one single weapon ticket… >.<
^ It doesn’t sound particularly “Charr-y” if I’m being completely honest but nice use of alliteration. (6/10)
Mine: Atlas Irontooth, Charr Guardian.
I like the way you’ve tried to do something different by contrasting the vibrance of the sword with a dark dye for the armour however I think you’ve gone a bit overboard with the Abyss – the colour itself just looks flat/dead and it actually hides a lot of the armour texture and detail. (You could’ve tried something a bit more imaginative than just dying it all one colour too!)
Nice sword. If this was a gold competition, I’d say 10/10… but it’s not.
Final score: 7/10
Here’s my Charr Guardian:

Fair enough. Have fun. :P
Before you get much further, and so that you don’t make the same mistake I did…
Go to Heart of the Mists by clicking on the 2 crossed swords in the top left-hand corner of your screen. There, you can preview every armour set in the game, try out all your class’ abilities before you even unlock them and experiment with the different weapons available to your class FOR FREE.
Take this advice and play around with a few different classes to make sure you’ve picked the right one. – Are you sure you wanna be a Ranger? >.>
I’ve been playing GW2 with an Xbox 360 controller for the past 2 days and have found it to be surprisingly viable. Naturally, there are limitations – such as not being able to talk or access certain interfaces but, from a combat perspective, it’s pretty decent. I would highly recommend a controller to anyone who…
1) Owns an Xbox 360 (has a controller and is familiar with the buttons)
2) Doesn’t already have a gaming mouse/pad
3) Struggles with controlling both movement and abilities with one hand
4) is a CLICKER.
I don’t know how a 360 controller compares to a gaming mouse/ pad as I’ve never used one. However, with logical button mapping and some practice, this is not only a nice alternative but a VASTLY superior option to your standard keyboard and mouse setup (in terms of combat) imo.
If you want to play GW2 with a 360 controller you’ll need:
> Your computer + 360 controller
> A Microsoft Wireless Receiver (plugs into your USB)
> Button mapping software*
*The two most popular I’ve come across are XPadder and Pinnacle Game Profiler.
XPadder = Free and very user-friendly but with limited control options. You’ll likely find yourself quite confused over what all your buttons do when you get in-game.
PGP = Not free; you have to pay after your 20 day free trial. It’s also more complex so you may find yourself downloading profiles other people have made and then just adapting them slightly. However, the software allows you to map multiple commands to one button e.g. (tap) X, Y, B for weapon skills 1, 2, 3 or (hold) X, Y, B for utilities 1, 2, 3.
I use Pinnacle; makes the 360 controller much more viable.
Tl;dr Xbox 360 controller > Keyboard and mouse.

What sigil would you recommend for the GS – Battle?
Ahh I get it, thanks. So I should get the CoF armour which has stats in Power, Precision and Toughness and a weapon which has stats in Power, Precision and Crit?
Hey again, Lert. Go ahead and upload your vid to Youtube; I’d be interested to see the build in action. Also.. what armour do you use? I don’t know what “knight” armour is.. are you saying you don’t use dungeon armour? :S
Hey guys, thanks for taking the time to reply to my post.
@Kepha, interesting build, thanks for sharing. I don’t think I like the idea of relying entirely on my pet though if I’m honest… they do die pretty easily afterall – or at least they do when I’m using them anyway lol. >.<
@Lert, that’s a lot of info there – thanks very much. So in summary: the defence/survivability that you trade off for potential damage isn’t worth it with the Ranger and using 2 bows isn’t an effective weapon set up as you’re screwed when within close range. Got it. Would you mind telling me what pet you use? :P
@Prysin, thanks for posting your build too. I’m just grinding CoF atm to get myself a decent GS lol but when I get there, I’ll have a closer look at your setup.
Hey Lert, thanks for the advice. Both builds here are so very different from my
30-30-5-0-5 build. Tbh, I blindly followed a class cannon guide online whilst leveling up my ranger as I was new to the game and wanted to maximize my damage output – I didn’t even consider melee weapons… :S
Thanks for the reply, Chokolata. I’ve not really considered using a melee weapon such as the GS on my Ranger… In fact I’ve not even unlocked any of the attacks yet (yes, I am a noob). :/ Having watched some Youtube vids, the animations look awesome and gameplay-wise looks really unique too. Block ability and an evade built into the auto attack? Nice. I might look into this some more…

“Thanks in advance” indeed. :/
Hi guys,
Just a quick question about weapon setups and traits. We all know the ranger is pretty shocking atm and isn’t the most desirable class to have in a party doing dungeon runs so I’m just wondering which build is currently the most useful* for PVE co-operative play.
(I’m currently level 80 and using a glass cannon build with LB and SB as weapons).
Thanks in advance for your help.
*Not necessarily the most damaging.
… Okay, went down the list and worked it out on the Trading Post. For anyone else out there also wondering about costs, you’re looking at around 7.5 Gold – better get saving. (Thanks again for the link).
Hey, yeah that is pretty helpful. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to work it all out using the Trading Post if I’m honest – there are a lot of materials there… But it’s a good start. Thanks.

… Anyone? Just a very rough estimate between 2 figures or something would be great – just so I know what I’m letting myself in for.
Hi all,
I want to try and get 300 Armorsmithing so I can craft the “Barbaric” Heavy PVE armor however I’m pretty new to GW2 and have never done any crafting before. Does anyone know roughly how much it might cost if I bought the materials I need to get from level 1 to 300?
Any help would be much appreciated. :P
Thanks.
