After playing for a bit with ultra shadows off, I am now getting 120+fps in some areas and about 35fps in others. I’ve only done PVE so far and I’ve heard that WvW is much worse than PVE for fps. This seems to be the norm for a lot of people. I guess I’ll have to wait for patches like everyone else.
Ahh that seems to have fixed my turning problem mostly.
I’m running PCI-E 2.0, but from looking at GTX 690 reviews I can see that the performance difference between 2.0 and 3.0 is negligible.
Still averaging pretty low for a GTX 690. I just double checked my GPU usage and it wouldn’t go up to 90% on either card, one of them was mostly at around 50%. My CPU usage is only at like 35% so I don’t really think it’s a bottleneck.
You should never have to underclock your video card to play a game. What you’re describing sounds exactly like defective hardware or driver issues. That freezing you’re getting is most likely a BSOD, but you’re unable to see it because your graphics card is getting messed up.
After you leave it frozen for a minute or so and reset your computer, does windows say it has recovered from an error when it starts up again? If it does, then you’re most definitely getting a BSOD. However, it’s important to note that you won’t get that message if you’re resetting your computer before a report is created from the BSOD.
To make absolutely sure the dump file is getting written, you will have to get the computer to freeze, then while it’s frozen check your hard drive activity light. Make sure you don’t reset your computer until the activity light stops going. At that point you can reset your computer and wait for your computer to boot back up and give you the error message. You can check the details in the window and it will give you a code or something so you can investigate further.
I generally average around 45fps with my GTX 690 with everything maxed out. The fps drops super low when I turn the camera (around 20fps).
I’ve clean installed the latest driver (306.02). I’ve checked with EVGA Precision and confirmed that my card is running full clock speed. I noticed the GPU usage drops quite low when I turn my camera, but when stationary my GPU usage is ~90% for one GPU and 60% – 80% on the other. I’ve tried disabling SLI and I get about half the fps so it can’t be a problem with SLI.
My system can crank out 60+fps for my 120hz monitor on pretty much any other game.
I’m using a 2600k @ 4.5Ghz, 8GB XMS3 for RAM.
