i7’s are the latest processors, so I would likely go with that.
I've noticed people with FPS issues haven't said anything about what server they play on.

It has nothing to do with what server you’re on. I changed servers before, and my FPS stayed exactly the same (which is to say 5-7 in towns or large areas with NPCs and players, and slightly over 10 when I’m by myself in maps that aren’t towns).
Okay then, how about saying that you can run Star Wars: The Old Republic on medium to high settings just fine, but GW2 (which is actually using a “modified GW1 engine”, not something completely new) doesn’t run fine, even on low settings? Because that’s how my experience has been.
Be glad they are doing that. There is really no reason for everyone to post the same issue as a new thread, specially when there is a ongoing thread for it. As for the merger of the crash thread. Well I am guessing a mod made a mistake on that one.
I have no problems with them merging threads into another if it actually pertains to what the thread is about. My point was, you were saying that there wasn’t many people talking about it in the forum, other than the big threads, and I was saying that’s because the other threads get merged into those threads.
I am not denying there are more people out there experiencing these issues and that those people are not posting on the forums, and sure the population is probably higher then a handfull but it isn’t as big as people make it sound to be.
And you like, you know… have statistics at hand to support your statement ?
No I don’t, but if it was a really big widespread issue, these forums would be a blaze.
That’s mainly because every time there’s a new thread about the issue, most of the time the mods for the forum just merge those threads with one of the existing ones anyway. And they previously merged a low FPS thread with a Crashing thread, when no one that was experiencing low FPS was crashing.
A little warning for you: a mod is going to close your thread because it is not ‘tech related’.
I posted a similar thread last week, and it was closed withing 4 hours of opening it.
They don’t like people complaining about genuine problems.Tomorrow marks the 14th day of my fps issues, with no solution in sight. Arenanet has agreed to give me my money back.
I suggest you contact their support and ask for the same. There’s no reason to pay extra to be a beta tester.
I don’t plan to quit on the game. I like the game. In fact, for the first few weeks I’d almost say I loved the game.
I don’t like the way ANet keeps being silent about apparent issues. Inb4theyacknowledgedtheproblem: Responding in some obscure thread or reddit or twitter doesn’t count in my book. I don’t care about reddit nor twitter. THIS IS THE OFFICIAL FORUM.
Creating a separate thread about these issues or even better – an article – that’s what is needed.
Or, better yet, keep people informed in more detailed patch notes. Some MMOs even go as far as having articles that not only says what they worked on in their current patch, but also what they’re planning on working on next time. ArenaNet has only done that with one patch note.
Home Style,
If you think that 35 FPS is low, then you are mistaking. Without Knowing what there settings are set to, or what type of hardware they have, 35 is considered normal.
The Black Citadel is also very busy capital, just like lions arch and there are tons of items to show on your screen, logic tells you your FPS is going to drop some specially during prime Time.
Also a few people posting threads about the same issue in countless posts and individual posts, does not mean the problem is widespread. Not to mention the “thousands” of replies in the single thread for the issue is also people trying to help solve peoples issues.
Thing is alot of people can be seen in map and local chat complaining about FPS and various other issues, i kid you not, every now and then someone sparks a convo and a whole slew of people express their issues. Fact is alot of those people never come here to complain, they simply cant be bothered because they either. A.) know Anet doesnt take kindly to complaints. or B.) They rather not start a flamefest.
I’ve expressed my problem in game as well, but not really publicly, unless you count to my guild as “public”.
Well, to be fair, 34 FPS is amazing compared to 5 to 15 FPS (which is what I get).. At least at 34 the game is at least tolerable.
I was thrilled to see a response to my ticket today. I am glad they are taking the time to send me something other then an auto reply. Gave me a tiny bit of hope.
Unfortunately following the directions in this new ticket did nothing to change my fps. It is still 5-15 today.
My guild members fps is also worse today. It was still barely playable yesterday with huge drops in fps all over. Today he can’t play. I wish I could help with this… it bugs me to see so many people leave the game because they can’t play.To the sender of the ticket reply, thank you for trying. I will keep updating. :P
I also kind of left the game right now because of this issue, and I’m in a guild. If there’s a patch, I usually get on for a few minutes to see if anything is fixed, but other than that, I don’t play. And I likely won’t be playing fully until ArenaNet fixes optimization, or I get a new computer (even though getting a new computer may not do anything for me).
My GPU is only using 10-12% and I am getting a 10-15 FPS on a machine that was playing the game flawlessly until yesterday morning. This happens in ALL areas. Standing still, ect.
My frustration… spans oceans right now. There is no fix because I tried them all for the entire day yesterday, and the game is unplayable. I will be haunting the forums for a long time, because they don’t seem able to admit what’s wrong and it keeps affecting more people. I have seen problems with this since launch, and REALLY hoped I would not experience it…
I feel for anyone that has this issue.. I miss the game. :/
Agreed. I’ve had this problem since launch but not in all areas. I was okay at first because it was just playable but I’m not happy with that. I brought a new graphics even though I had a sufficient one to play this game.
I gave it time didn’t flame at first but it’s been SOOO long now and there’s just been no real answer or reply to any of these problems.
I guess this proves.. this is the kind of service you get when you buy a non-subscription MMO…
As I’ve mentioned in here, and in another thread, I’ve been having the FPS problem as well since I bought the game (which was when it was released in stores, as I got my copy in Gamestop). I haven’t really monitored my CPU/GPU usage, but I would imagine it’s about the same thing.
The thing is, I was planning on getting a new computer later regardless, but if it’s game related, and not computer related, I’m afraid if I’ll just be getting the same results anyway.
If people are curious what computer I am planning on getting (I posted this in another thread), I’ll list what I was going to get. I’m not just getting a new computer, but also a slightly better graphics card that the computer originally has, and adding more RAM. They’re all on Newegg.com.

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104173
Worried, would this desktop be able to run GW2?

My current computer can barely run it on low (and it’s well passed the minimum requirements). However, I’ll be getting a new computer at Newegg by Christmas, along with a few components with it.
New PC: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229331
Replacing the graphics card with this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130768
Adding 8 more gigs of RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104173
If this computer with that added still has problems playing this.. Then there’s no way in hell someone should be saying it’s my computer.
I just did a FPS “solution” with the support for my FPS ticket, that told me to run Heaven, and sent it to them. They responded yesterday with this response:
“Hello.
Thank you for updating us on your issue. Here’s what we’re seeing:
The results from Heaven:
FPS:
30.0
Scores:
755
Min FPS:
16.7
Max FPS:
55.7
The reality of the issue is that if your system can’t maintain a constant 30 frames in the Heaven Benchmark then you’re not going to be getting good Frames in Guild Wars 2 either. While some of the parts of the Heaven benchmark may be more graphic intensive than GW2, you are not attempting to render as many entities. There are players and spells, sounds, creatures, npcs, etc etc, a whole mess of things for your system to process in GW2.
That being said, I don’t believe that you should be getting 5-7 Frames as you stated. Here we run into the issue of the drivers for your graphics card. AMD is no longer updating drivers for your card, it has been lumped into legacy drivers. The only other thing we can do for you is attempt a Driver Fusion with a re-install of the latest legacy drivers. If this doesn’t work then I’m afraid you will have to update your system to get any better performance out of GW2."
Then they proceeded to give me instructions on reinstalling my drivers, which I already did in a previous mail with them. If it didn’t work before, how the hell is it going to magically fix itself now? So after that, they then told me to remove everything on start-up basically with MSConfig, and see if that helps the game (which it didn’t), and they said if it didn’t work, to send a Game Advisor report “prior to removing”.. Uh, that would be the same as one I ALREADY sent to them previously.
So basically, I give up. They’re just giving me the run-around, and will eventually just say it’s my computer anyway. I’m planning on getting a new computer by Christmas, but it sure as hell not my computer, because I have friends that have similar computers as I do and they have no issues with this game whatsoever.
I should also point out that I’ve noticed the screen flickering when I turn the game on too. The flickering stops when I switch to windowed fullscreen (although, for some reason, the game always seems to say it’s not responding when I first turn it on, before it finally boots up the character selection screen). However, I’m not sure how any of you are changing your Refresh Rate to 60 in windowed fullscreen, as the game won’t allow me to do that. I can only change the refresh limit.
Try running in full screen windowed mode instead of full screen. That fixed all my fps and stuttering issues….
That doesn’t help at all. I get under 10 FPS, no matter what resolution I have the game in, or if it’s in windowed mode or not. And under 10 is being generous, when there’s barely anyone around. I get worse than that in the city maps (like 5 to 7 FPS), making it real hard to explore, for trying to get the Vistas and the like.
I have already given my specs to ArenaNet ad nauseum, and followed their ridiculous steps for over a week now (it doesn’t help that they don’t answer my tickets until almost 2 days after I sent one, either), and none of the steps have helped one bit. So please don’t tell me I should be posting anything like specs.

Is the game being CPU Bound something they will optimize?

That “unofficial driver” can’t be installed by everyone, apparently. My card is a HD 4850, and it’s not listed as supported, so I’m SOL.
I seem to get a sound when I send messages, but don’t when I receive them.
I still has FPS problems that I mentioned previously, but this time, I was able to pass by the starting area (I just barreled through it, despite it being 7 FPS max). After leaving said starting area, my FPS is now going over 10, but doesn’t exceed 15 unless I’m by myself with no players near me, or buildings. When that happens, my FPS skyrockets to almost 40.
Uh.. Why was the low FPS issue merged with a crashing thread? It’s not like the game crashes for most of us, it’s just nearly unplayable from the low framerate.
I finally got a response in a ticket I placed about my FPS problems last week, and was basically given more advice that was already pretty much repeated on this forum. The end of their response was “if this doesn’t help, just check the forums until there’s news”, which sounds to me like they’re not going to answer anymore support tickets about this.
I’m just wondering.. is everyone’s perception of FPS drop only about it being lower than 60 FPS? Because I’ve noticed some people in this thread mentioning they have “FPS drops”, when they’re close to the 100’s in FPS already. That’s insanely fast to begin with. Most people should be lucky enough to even get around the 60 FPS range before they start seeing FPS quality dropping.
suggestion:Always test all nvida betas out, cause they often much better and also less buggy than officials. 306.02 are best for me actually
Not everyone having a problem uses a NVidia card. Mine is a Radeon.
I sent a ticket in last week about this issue, but I guess ArenaNet felt people getting hacked was a more pressing matter than people actually playing the game..
Anyway, I’ll just copy what I said there, since I haven’t gotten a response yet, and add the files that are necessary..:
Everything runs smoothly if I’m just in character creation, or during cutscenes. However, in the starting area (I made a human), the game runs at a constant 5 to 7 frames per second. I figured it was just stress on the servers, so when the new servers were released, I transferred to one of those, but I had the same results. I’ve updated my graphics card drivers, and did literally everything I could think of, but the FPS would not change. Changing the video settings in the game did nothing at all for the FPS either, or the resolution (I heard some people say that helped them).
I also just recently found out that my FPS actually goes up to like 48 or so if I just face the camera straight down into the ground, so yeah..
