Yes, I’ve posted to GW2Guru and on the GW2 sub-Reddit [though my thread just falls off immediately]. Results will definitely be shared. Maybe I can just give an initial stats overview to everyone here sans the extra conference paper excess material to let everyone know what I found.

:] The nice part about this data set is if I get enough numbers I’ll be able to use it for several papers on various things I ask about.

yes! I’ll be taking responses all through the weekend. tell your friends it’s something fun to do while you wait for the Lost Shores update.

A lot of people have been asking about the results for the paper. I’m hoping to have everything squared away by December for a conference submission, so once I hear the results from acceptance or denial from that I can distribute the paper to the masses. :] Thanks for your help and input everyone!

I’m back…but not with the best news. Unfortunately the survey program ate one of my questions, and I’m missing a chunk of data. The survey has been re-opened [and edited to take in previous participant comments and make it friendlier for EU players!] and I’m collecting responses again. If you took the survey before, you are free to take it again…and please pass it along to your friends, guildmates, enemies etc.

You may want to offer some sort of compensation or prize to be raffled off between all participants. You’ll probably get more respondents if you offer an incentive for folks to spend their time other than just your thanks. Just a suggestion of course.

It was a consideration. However, incentives are usually for longer-lasting projects [e.g. >1 hour]. So far it seems the survey I have provided is not taking most users longer than 15 minutes for a meaty response, though times get longer as they provide more text-based information. In my experience as a student researcher [especially looking at an area like gaming], many participants are just happy to have their voice heard and be able to support gaming research.

I would also like to thank the 957 players who have completed the survey so far. You guys rock!

That ranking question threw me off too, wasn’t sure if 6 was most or least on the 1-6 scale.

Thanks for the input! I’ve specified in the question itself how the ranking should be done to prevent any further confusion.

Question 23’s ranking is a simple 1-6 ranking system. 1 is best [i.e. what factored most into your character creation] and 6 is worst [i.e. what factored least].

the numbers in-between are just personal preference of what you considered when making your character.

I had anticipated mostly US players, which is why the server list has the NA servers. I myself am US based, hence the census terms [this prevents any messy legal issues with referring to certain races as X, Y, or Z].

However, I don’t discourage input from anyone! If I do get more EU players, I can shift my analysis with that in mind. I just apologize that it’s not as EU friendly as NA friendly.

I am a PhD student at the University of California, Irvine in the Informatics department.  Informatics, loosely, is studying aspects of living, working, and building in digital worlds.  I’m currently looking for Guild Wars 2 players to participate in a short (between 15 – 30 minutes) survey regarding their main Guild Wars 2 character.  The goal of the study is to understand character progression through the in-game personality feature.
