Hi,
I’m here to ask for your advices!
These days it became impossible for me to winthe 3rd round of tourney on Battle of Kyhlo with a pug since it often happends to be against a premade with a treb Mesmer in the oposite team.
What I call treb Mesmer : Mesmer with a strong 1v1 spec, usualy a fantasm build using Portal and MAO as an ult.
So I would like you to give me your opinion on how succesfully deal with this situation.
What I’ve tried :
- Try to destroy the treb by myself, most of the time I’m getting bursted down by the Mesmer, when I succeed to put him in a bad situation I’m MAOed. I sometimes succeed in killing the Mesmer but my spec don’t allow me to destroy the trebuchet before the Mesmer to be back ( Staff & Scepter )
- Try to completly ignore the treb, I can’t succed in capping and holding point with a good treb player activly shooting at my team ( maybe there you’ll have some advices for me on this point )
- Try to take with me another player to get the treb down : usually the other player is MOAed with pretty much result in the #1 situation.
- Try to take with me two other player : we loose of one of our points.
Of course usually the treb is repared few seconds after it was destroyed.
How would you deal with such a situation? Is there any special spec that would allow me to have a bigger impact on this particular map? Usually how would you play against such a Mesmer?
Thx,have a good day!
PS: I’m usually playing Well Necromancer
auhfel.4129Actually.. that score means you know where the right spots and the right times are. believe it or not there is an art to accruing glory. If you are in Capricorn and defending the ruins, you are doing it wrong.
My pointwas : it does not mean anything regarding the class balance since that was one of the reaction to that screenshot. You could farm glory as a perma MOA with the right awarness and positionning.
Those score don’t mean a thing since most of the time it just proves that you are at the right spot at the right time to pick points from kills you may or may not have done, or from point you may or may not have helped to capture.
Chipster.6713People know 1 or 2 specs for each profession, because they saw them on youtube. If they started toying with things by themselves, they would see a lot more potential in each profession.
This is just bogus. Most people have no idea what all professions are capable to do. When you say Warrior, they think “GS hurr hurr”, when you say Thief, they think “omg heartseeker spam”.
I would make the list like this:
1. Players who know how to combine Professions into a great combination and knows that the game is about teamplay.
2. Players who constantly think of how to improve their profession and learn what it is truly capable off.
3. Players who copy > paste a spec they saw somewhere else and think that they instantly become good players by doing so.
What are those arrogant people always assuming that people don’t know a kitten about what they are talking about?! And even if it is, why does that makes their opinion less valuable. Class design must be based on the mass, not on a handfull of elitist players.
Hotjoin PvP:
1) Thieves
2) Mesmer
3) Warrior
4) Guardian
5) Engi
6) Ranger
7) Ele
8) NecroTourney PvP:
1) Guardians
2) Mesmer
3) Engi
4) Thief
5) Ele
6) Ranger
7) Necro
8) WarriorIMO….Rank 20, mostly play Ranger and Guardian, mix of hotjoin and Tourney play.
Same order for me here! Necro is too situational to bring a real asset to a team. Same thing for Warrior. Could put the Mesmer first in the tPvP rank it depend of the map.
10 bug fix in 10 days, 97 to go, cheer up mates in 3 MONTHS we will be fully playable!! -_-
To the OP : No you’re not the only one that like the Necro, I’d say if people was not giving a kitten about Necro there will probably be less post about his current state than there is now, no one would play Necro and this forum would be empty.
The things you like in Necro are the things most people consider here as the strongest Skill/Trait/Abilities.
If you’re fine playing the only build that provide enough strengh to be competitive that’s good for you but that does not mean that people complaining about the lake of diversity of the Necro are wrong.
How about people that was expecting a minion build?
I like your ideas!
Also I’ve noticed that all your pet abilities are disabled if you are disabled ( stun, knockback, whatever ) I would love to see that changed. It could be a good counter to a Thief burst, knocking hem down as soon as he stuns you without having to use our Spectral Armor… It might be overpowered with the other pet abilities tho I don’t play MM often so I don’t really know what abilities other pets have. It’s just an idea.
The most frustrating thing I believe, is the lack of information in DS ( CDS, Weapon change, Boons, Conditions, Energy etc… ) that makes it more of an issue in a lot of situations than a real asset.
Also it would be so cool if we could just get rid of that Staff noise!!

Rika you act like you were “the one that know the truth” jeez, are you working for ANet or something? If people just want to say that this game is unbalanced ( that’s what I think ) let them do so!
Well even if you could have managed your skills better, let’s face it without an almost full DS bar to absorb their burst you are pretty much dead and even if you succeed in put him in a difficult situation they will probably reset the fight and get away alive. The best things is : they can fear you too and longer than you can
Just to be clear we are speaking good Thieves here. Bad ones are pretty easy to kill.
I would advise you to break his stun with spectral armor, dodge him, I play double dagger so usually I will lock him with my #3, put my two damage wells under him, as soon as the lock break I will knock him down with the Flesh Golem ability, use the #5 to put some vulnerability on him and use a full #1 cycle and eventually switch to axe for finishing using the #5 if he tries to get away. If you see him coming he will probably jump on you just after his stealth, so whatever weapon you carry you can already precast an AOE centered on yourself most of the time it will hit the target. I like to use the cripple from the axe (#3 )
This is my approach to the thief, I’m far from being a very good PvP player but this had the best results so far. Hope it will help you!
I didn’t make up this statistic, I’ve read it on WoW forum a while ago when I had the same argument as yours now. But you’re right I do not need any stats to be able to tell that saying “There is more and more Thieves, Guardian, andMesmer because people are QQing on the off forum” is pure BS
Couldn’t agree more with the OP. Does anyone else find how ironic it is that in the same breath someone will complain about a glass cannon class with insane dps and then also complain about the class that probably hits the weakest of all classes yet just has amazing survivability?
Seems like a lot of people cry whenever they get challenged. I die and win a lot on all my classes and haven’t yet found a class I haven’t been able to take down one minute then die to them the next.
I seriously think the trend in certain classes is from all the qq on message boards getting people to see what all the fuss is about.
I believe that less than 15% of players are reading the official forums. So if you did notice a trend it probably means more on the current balance than you actually think.
There isn’t an overpowered class, just underpowered players…
Some classes are full of bugs whereas other classes are fine, It’s just plain fact your thread is useless since you just can’t deny it. That makes the game in its current state imbalanced, period.
@Kryank:
I like how you just prove the point that most people that do not see the unbalanced state of the game and rely on L2P or Build arguments to defend their position, are people that never tried in any way some of the classes that most of the people complaining on this forum play.

Hey! I like the build. I totaly disaprove Conditiomancer playstyle and it’s refreshing to test something new. Im definitely not what we could call a good pvp player. I’ve tested it in tPvP and I suprisingly find playing against Conditiomancer in a teamfight environment pretty hard. How would you play against them?
because no one care about 8v8. the only thing that count is Tpvp, tourney, gvg call it how u prefer. so 8v8 is impossible to balance because of the zerg mode. 5v5 is more balanced because the maps suit better 10 players than 16.
deal with it
Just your opinion without any fact or anything to support it. If it’s true, I would like someone to explain me why they have provided a 8v8 mod, since all that matter is 5v5 why do not make the hot join pvp a 5v5 mod? Are we, casual players, forced to play in an unbalanced environement?
Well if they throw out any more “nerfs” to Thief they will just have to do a complete class resdesign unless they make it ONLY effect spvp zones. As it currently stands, the only nerf whining about any class since release have been from a minority. A minority that does not know what a Stun/CC Breaker is. A minority that does not know what Dodge is. A minority that does not roll the class they are whining about to understand the amount of set up and positioning these 1 trick ponies require.
If they send out any nerfs and it effects the whole game, they will make thief even more useless in wvwvw and make them useless in PVE.
You speak about the difficulty of thief gameplay. I’ve tried myself and as far as it goes there is no comparaison possible with my Ele or my Necro. Don’t you think things are a little broken when 20% and rising of spvp players start playing thieves? Last game I’ve made I was the only Ele in a team full of thieves… But it can’t be because things are not balanced of course.
Most of people don’t have neither the time nor the will to set themself up for tPvP, as long as tPvP is not accessible for a mass, I don’t understant why people just speak about tPvP to support their balancing argument in most threads.
