Oh so to clarify, the point is for WORLD completion, not (individual) map completion.

Mastery POINTS and map/zone completion

Just to clear this up, as a lot of people think I’m referring to leveling an actual mastery, I’m asking about the Mastery Points themselves.

My question basically goes back to the wiki, which is stating:
=========
Mastery interface
Mastery points are spent on selective Master tracks; they are earned from completing various goals within the game, but they may only be spent at level eighty.

These sources include:

Entering a zone for the first time
Interacting with Maguuma Mastery Orb, a place of power
Completing a chapter in a character’s story
Completing achievements
Finding secret locations
Defeating difficult enemies
Performing well in the new adventure system
Earning 100% completion in maps
=========
Specifically I wanted to ask if the zone/map related points have been changed or aren’t accurate, because my highest map completion character had well over 10 maps fully completed, but when I logged in, I had… 0 points.

Mastery crash course?

Hello! and thank you for anyone that has the time to bear with this and explain it.

I’m a returning player though as a friend put it “you’ve been out of it so long you’re pretty much new”.

I’ve been mulling over tidbits with the HoT update, but the one part that’s eluding me so far is the Mastery system. Specifically, the two parts from the wiki weirding me out is “Entering a zone for the first time” and “Earning 100% completion in maps”.

So I did do quite a bit on my main character before I took a break from GW2, and after the HoT update it’s sitting at 78% completion, as I did 100% many of the Tyria maps before I stopped.

And that’s where things start to confuse me.
The general answer I seem to get is that mastery points come from doing “random stuff”, and that “random stuff” I can see under the hero panel achievement subsection, so that’s not too difficult. It’s more (as I mentioned), the map related ones that seem odd to me. I hear people logging in and already having 10, 20, or 40 some odd mastery points, and I had 0. I got 3 from logging into different zones playing on a few of my different characters, but wasn’t sure why or how I got them (it just sort of popped up as a reward like a chest and I claimed it).

Before I go zipping around Tyria, am I required to revisit a 100%‘d map? Or what do I need to do to get the points that (I think?) I should have but don’t for those maps?

Thanks a bunch for any help!

Mad King says only granting 2 keys daily?

I guess the whole chain of events from start to finish.

Was on my elementalist, wandering through Lion’s arch, when I came across Mad King says. Figured I’d join in, seems like I arrived near the end of the whole thing.

Only got bronze, no other reward. Heard people talk about some key fragment, so I looked again to see if I had anything anywhere. Nothing.

Swapped to my ranger and decided to come back later. Returned again for another round of MKS, got gold, and 2 key fragments. Noticed it appeared as a daily chest in bottom right. Also noticed the tool tip indicated that you could get up to 3 fragments a day.

About 4:30 eastern time, new build. Logged out, patched, logged back in. Noticed MKS was running again. Figured I’d hop into it to get the last fragment. Got gold rank again and… got nothing.

Found a helpful mentor who explained to me that if you got 12 “stacks” you got 3 key fragments, as you get 1 fragment per 4 stacks. Looked at my buff area, noticed that on that 3rd run, I had indeed 12 stacks (which had yet to expire).

Checked my inventory, still only had the 2 fragments from the MKS before the new build. Checked the bottom right of my screen, no chest.

Figured it must have been on my elementalist then, so I logged back onto it, looked around for any fragment that may have been pending claim or been claimed and sorted weird in my inventory due to my bags, nope, nothing.

Seems like I won’t get another chance at it before the daily reset, but looks like I got capped out at 2 keys for some reason.

Update:
Went back for one more run before the reset on my elementalist (the same one that originally got bronze but no key fragment). Again got 15 stacks, again no fragment.

Update 2:
Managed to relog onto my necromancer into an LA overflow and noticed there was a MKS still going, jumped into it. 10 stacks at the end, still no 3rd key fragment.

Recycling/Salvaging Karma from a character

is that only for cooking materials?
or can I purchase other materials as well? (and what of the recipes?)

I’ll get it if that’s all there is, but cooking was probably the last profession I was thinking of leveling

Recycling/Salvaging Karma from a character

I’ve played my Guardian to about level 20 and gotten around 6000 Karma on it (probably spammed a few too many events). I was looking to reroll it as a different race though and wanted to salvage that karma if at all possible.

I was wondering if anyone knew if this was possible? And what I might be able to spend it on that would be transferable between characters? The game sometimes seems to character bind some things that don’t have any mention of being character bound (like the harvesting tools or golem bankers).

I’ve heard crafting ingredients, but going one step up, can I get recipes and transfer them via my bank? or will those be character bound (and actually un-withdrawable if I delete my character which purchased them?)

Thanks!
