Not quitting yet, but I feel like I’m headed towards that direction
Awesome, more than awesome content. Horrible, absolutely horribly balanced system for rewarding players. You want to get rich? You’ll need 90% luck. Skill gets you far, but it doesn’t mean you will get you anywhere other players can’t. Oh we just added this to the game, and it drops from monsters too. Here, have a 0.0000001% drop rate. No, there’s no grind in this game. Oh you just posted a huge detailed thread on forum, trying to help anet, be descriptive etc etc. Here, we merged it into the generel feedback thread. No wait, we lost it in the process (Yes this happened). You want rewards for killing karka for 3 hours? How about a D/C. You have a simple yes/no question? How about we don’t answer that for you. Looks like 50 players doing the ancient Karka. Let’s spawn 20 veterans in their face, so they die instantly. I see you’re almost done with that Fractals of the Mists run. Let’s disconnect all the players.
This all on just one day.
I didn’t get to play for a lot of this weekend due to a larger than average workload but from what you’ve described, I didn’t miss much except a dice roll at winning the lottery after a boring 3 hour long event.
I’m also pretty disillusioned with this game since starting on day 1 of the head start and it’s becoming more and more of a chore for me to launch it whenever I have free time that could be better invested in other, less mechanically broken games. If I’m just going to be perpetually behind trying to catch up with the latest gear tier and missing out on groups because I don’t have the proper difficulty level unlocked for the latest and greatest dungeon, I fail to see why this game is valuable at all.
I feel like ArenaNet has allowed me to have my fun and now they no longer value me as a customer. They are actively trying to remove me from the game so they can draw in the Panda crowd. Like you, I’m not quite at the quitting point yet but with the direction the game is apparently heading in, I can’t imagine that point being too far off.
I don’t know how people became such big fans of ArenaNet in the first place. They’ve never been the sort of outstanding company that reaches out to the community for game design decisions or anything. The two games they’ve made are good but making a good game is not a trait unique to ArenaNet. I urge you not to undeservedly put ArenaNet on some sort of pedestal because, frankly, they don’t belong there. It will save you grief in the future.
Wow it keeps getting better… I just found out that because I couldn’t log in 7 hours ago for the final event, I missed out on a free, one-time uber accessory which will cost 1000 shells or about 20 gold (based on current trading post prices) otherwise.
So now, you not only have to be a “dedicated player” running FotM 24×7, you need to log in at specific times too? Seriously… what the hell happened.
Wow. Just wow, I have no words anymore for the amount of fail I’m seeing from this company.
The over-reaction to this gear is hilarious. The stat difference between Exotics and Ascended is pretty darn small and will make next to no difference in regards to WvW or content already released.
The big thing here is the Infusion Slots, which are not so much gear progression as they are an additional mechanic being implemented into PvE. While these can act as a gear gate, it seems that Anet realizes that Ascended gear need to come from all types of gameplay in order to avoid the “gear-treadmill”.
You know what’s really hilarious? How bad you are at math.
I see no reason why people should be encouraged to gamble (yes, it’s gambling) with their hard-earned, real money for fun novelty items in a video game. There are those of us that don’t enjoy gambling and we’re left with only three special weapon skins for this event. All the people who don’t have the money to afford these Black Lion chest skins now will be paying 500+ gold for them later after the Halloween event is over. It’s a shame this aspect of the Halloween event couldn’t have been as well thought out and enjoyable as the rest of it. I will remember not to purchase anything from the BLTC in the future.
I’m going to keep bringing up the FoV problem until something is done about it. Why they wouldn’t want their game to be better is beyond me. Jon’s excuse made absolutely no sense and as far as I know he hasn’t made a statement about the lies in his post.
*We’ve added adjustable field of view settings!
*Just kidding, the viewing angle is still just as cramped as it always was.
This is really awful news and the excuses sound like PR nonsense rather than actual reasons. I wish there was a real reason for not implementing adjustable FOV and immediately making the game better.
I just ran AC exp today after not doing a single dungeon for about a week. We finished path 1 in about 50 minutes, I got 45 tokens, another person in our group got 30. We did path 2 in about 40 minutes afterwards and I got 30 tokens while the other person who got reduced tokens got 5 (FIVE). Finally, we did a run of path 3 and I received 15 tokens while the other guy got 30. After that, I waited about two hours until the daily reset at 5 PM and tried to do another path 1 to see if it would give me the proper reward. This time it gave me 45 again. This dysfunctional system cheated me out of 105 tokens and while it’s all well and good that this MIGHT BE fixed in an upcoming patch, I honestly doubt anyone who has been abused by this system, myself included, will be compensated at all.
When mining and being attacked, sometimes your character draws its weapon and for some reason this results in you mining ruined ore chunks or ruined logs as if you didn’t have the appropriate level tool while still using up your gathering tool and depleting the node. I can’t imagine why this would be intentional so it must obviously be a bug.

This should have everyone’s support based on the FOV and freelook suggestions alone. These are things that should have been in the game on release and I know this isn’t the first time they’ve been suggested.
It’s a mystery to me why we jumped into these week long matchups when there was absolutely no way to tell which servers would have large off-peak hour populations. Whoever thought it was a good idea to go from 24 hours to 7 days obviously made a wrong decision. Why not do a few cycles of 3-day matchups to account for WvW populations during all hours?
If we have to go through months of these week long cycles to sort out these matchmaking issues, I feel that many people will just give up on WvW because Arenanet has created a toxic environment with these poor matchmaking decisions. There isn’t enough incentive for players on servers who’ve woken up and lost all of their towers to spend hours out of their day attempting to retake fully upgraded and heavily fortified positions. It costs more coin and time than it should and the payoff is usually a failed assault because by this time the winning team has already gained a significant advantage through orbs (which need to be removed or changed significantly), upgrades, and map control.
There’s also the issue of player “pop-in” having certain objects not draw until they’re close enough to you, in extreme cases causing some ranged classes to take free shots at you without risk of retaliation because you can’t see them for several seconds while you frantically press “Tab” to target these phantom players.
I’m sure nothing will be done about these issues and I’d be better off waiting 3-6 months before playing WvW again.
I came here to say this exact same thing. The fact that you can’t use any of the skills while moving is horrible not because it reduces the effectiveness of the shapeshifts (which it does) but because it just makes them cumbersome and not fun to use. If every press of “1” is an exercise in frustration, why waste your skill points when they could go towards a mystic or legendary weapon?
