SAB Tribulation Title

in Living World

Once all the worlds have been released, I would love to see a title for getting all the tribulation mode achievements. However, I think the title should require a few more achievements than are currently available in tribulation mode. Tough Customer and Forbidden Honey/Woodpecker are not easy achievements, but those alone do not merit a title.

Ideas for more tribulation mode achievements:
- Find all hidden rooms
- Open all chests (requiring keys)
- Do all zones without using checkpoints (balloon-cloud checkpoints)
- Use the shortcuts (when possible, like the Shortcut Worm)

Legendary weapons

Hi all,

In the upcoming Spring 2016 Quarterly Update, we’ll launch the new legendary short bow, Chuka and Champawat. The team outdid themselves on this one. This new precursor journey takes you through a memorable experience inspired by a real-world story, and the bow you craft at the end is the perfect commemoration of that journey. I hope you all check it out.

Last year we talked about plans to gradually build out a second set of legendary weapons through live content updates. That’s a big responsibility. We have a team of six developers working on that, who could work on it for years to come.

As game director I have to make tough trade-offs. One thing I believe is that we have to focus on the core game first before taking on additional responsibilities. I wrote in the Guild Wars 2 Design Manifesto in 2010 that our vision was to create a living, dynamic world, where there’s always something to do. Let’s ensure we succeed on that front.

So, after shipping Chuka and Champawat, I’ve asked that we indefinitely suspend work on new legendary weapons. This team of developers will instead shift their efforts back to Living World style content, building new journeys and events for everyone to participate in.

I know this will be a controversial decision. I’ll hang out with you here on the forums for a little while today to discuss it. And I’m always available by email.

[Suggestion] Secondary Storyline

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Palador.2170

As we all know, the storyline of the game focuses on one main character and those around said character. And with HoT (and perhaps a few points in Orr), we see the problem with that. All we’re presented with is what the Commander encounters, and we know there’s more going on than that.

Think about any books you’ve enjoyed. How many of them stuck to just the central character, and never focused on what was going on with anyone else? Or how about movies that never cut away to a secondary character? Very few do that, because it harshly limits the story that can be told.

In GW2, there’s clearly stuff going on that the Commander isn’t a part of, and some of it could be pretty interesting. We can’t have them just drop everything to go run off and be part of those other events, though. It wouldn’t make sense. So, how about letting us also play another role, that of someone else that can and does get involved in these other events in the world? Possibly someone from the Pact that is working with a team of operatives from the three orders to scout out possible problem situations so the next crisis doesn’t catch everyone by surprise, or may be a group of independent adventurers just looking for fame and fortune?

The Commander’s storyline would still be the central story, naturally. The secondary storyline would just be a chance to explore the things the main story can’t, and maybe bring back some beloved characters that have fallen out of the main story without having to force them in where they don’t fit.

Thoughts?

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

Are you ever going to do something on this forum? I am getting frustrated with the amount of devs that keep posting on Reddit and topics here get ignored.

While I also would like to see more dev activity on the forums, Reddit makes for a much, much more readable format for a Q&A than these forums. It’s easier to do Q&As there, in general.

Expanded SAB Boom Boxes

So with SAB leaving tomorrow, one of the main things I’m going to be missing is the amazing tunes. So of course I bought both of the boomboxes so I can enjoy the music even while SAB is away. Well, most of the songs, anyway. There are still some missing, like…

~ World 1 ~
- The “dark” section of Dark Forest
- The cart smashing bonus game

~ World 2 ~
- The river rafting section
- The Yeti battle
- The bandit bonus game

Seeing how we have 9 potential “slots” for different songs on each boombox (not counting the one used to stop playing) but only 5 currently used, I’d love to see them expanded to really include every music track from their respective worlds. Most of the missing tracks are pretty good, so its a shame they get left out. Perhaps there could even be a button that activates the tribulation mode / Dusk version of each song, though that could be problematic since some don’t have one.

Also, for next Super Adventure Festival, I’d love to see an additional boombox added called “World 0” (or perhaps World -1 for the Mario reference) which would have all of the starter area / non-World specific tracks.

- The lobby area
- The stage selection cabin (which is actually the main thing that made me think of this request, I’m actually listening to it right now as I’m posting, so good)
- The map screen
- The secret area / underground theme
- The end-of-map theme (the one that plays once you defeat the boss until you warp to the next stage)

I just need more SAB music. Ideally, ALL of it.
