No factions, no player recognition, no community drama. Ladders? Sorry, not exciting for me. I’m not 15 ….
I’m not 15 either, which is precisely why I don’t need things like “drama” and why player recognition is unimportant to me, I have a career for that, hence placing a level of importance on a computer game and requiring recognition just seems trivial in comparision.
…
MMO’s are about the people you know, the people you meet, the people you fight with, and the people you kill. This is what makes a regular RPG a MMO.
Players dedicate much more (or all) of their time, money, and emotions to WoW, compared to Skyrim, just because there are communities and relationships involved.
Without this element, GW2 will remain a beautiful singleplayer RPG with the option to kill other players if you feel like doing so.
Despite how much people insist they are above things like “drama” and player relationships, this is a fundamental factor. And I didn’t even use the word “drama” in a negative light.
The current setting simply doesn’t suppose building strong communities within the game.
Why should I enter WvW’s?
– To feel like a non-defining part of some big event?
– To spam my spells for hours without much noticeable effect?
– To target and use my spells on players that I don’t know, will never meet again, don’t care about, and look like my character, but for some reason are red?
Why?
Note that I didn’t even use the word “kill” in regard to players. Just because killing players in this game most of the time is a slow and unsatisfying process. And your target will most likely be “ressed” in WvW environment.

Yes please!
Alternatively, or better – additionally:
Make fish drop some interesting stuff, so I am motivated to dive and hunt them with a spear/harpoon/trident…
Quoting one of the previous posts:
“As it stands, you basically run around in a huge zerg pack, spam AOES, dodge the bigger red circles, and dog-pile the enemies who are a little too slow it getting back behind their group line. There are no player-versus-player tactics involved, there is no real skill involved. It’s all about who has the most bodies to pile up. This just isn’t fun.”
… And adding:
Crappy, inconsistent performance (3-20 FPS) during massive battles.
And mainly because I see no intrigue in both WvW and sPvP in this game. No factions, no player recognition, no community drama. Ladders? Sorry, not exciting for me. I’m not 15 and I don’t like Counter Strike or Starcraft.
Note: Yes, I do love to PvP in MMO’s. Still surprised I don’t enjoy GW2’s PvP system(s), despite its “best MMO PvP” label.
For me, PvP is a form of community interaction.
