I did take the character into the map, to dismantle some loot… I will try contacting support… no harm could come from that, true. In any case, it will surely be less harmful than a twitchy finger over the “Delete” button:).
Well, guys and gals, I regret to inform you that the lost reward DIDN’T pop up the next day. The next log-in reward appeared as usual, but the lost one IS lost if you delete a character that’s about to receive it, even if you DON’T actually claim the reward.
And in my case it WAS the kitten bag of laurels:(((.
So be careful, stay frosty with your deletions and don’t repeat my mistake.
Gonna go cry in some distant corner of the Earth:).
Wow, thanks so much for that! Even if they won’t, it’s worth a try.
And thanks for your welcome.
Exactly, hasty character deletions… what can I say, when I created my VERY first one and then ALSO DELETED him, I lost the armor you get as a gift.
I’m that careless… by the way, the skins of that armor set, are they lost too? Just for the sake of knowledge.
No, I completely forgot about the rewards and just deleted the char… it was SO getting on my nerves:).
Well, good news then:).
Eh, oh well, you win some, you lose some:).
Thanks for answering though.
Not sure if this at all worth starting a topic for, so I apologize if it isn’t OR if it’s too newbish, but still…
Logged in today, decided to delete a not-so-successful char right off the bat. The char happened to be my last one. Hastily deleted him, AND he evidently took my log-in reward with him:).
Created another one to test something – no cigar:).
Anyway I can still get the cookie and continue on with the subsequent ones:)?
I’ll certainly try (my best):).
Well… I realize I was being totally banal now.
Still hoping there’s more to the game than equipping the combination of “power, precision, ferocity”… which, by the way, I very much like and do all the time, but as of now, still have to use my brains AND reflexes in orders to survive THE WAY I WANT in this game.
As a not so successful player (have touched, but exactly that – have touched PvP, never been in a WvW), getting constantly frustrated with what’s being done to my favorite weapon, which is the Great Sword, across all the professions – I nevertheless got want to thank the developers of the game: the combat mechanic you’ve created here is, IN PRINCIPLE, absolutely unique. After trying other games, both single and multiplayer, and having played GW2 (if only PvE), I find myself playing the other games INFINITELY better than before and, as a consequence, swiftly bored by those other games and their combat mechanics. Those are simply… well… too simple now:). And boring.
Having to time my attacks, blocks, evades and whatnot (and not just trading punches with whatever is there, hoping I’m not crushed before I get my way), and knowing I AM ABLE to nail the timing if I’m good is a UNIQUE gratification.
Pity I’m THIS bad at GW2, despite having received more than ample counseling by the community… and the way you, the developers, treat my favorite weapon… but still – “THIS ONE” thanks you very much for creating a game which has as a mechanic close to real life sword play – to the point where I can’t master both the one AND the other:).
P.S. Apologies for my way of expressing myself – not a native English speaker, but doing my best.
P.P.S. NOT a fanboy’s praise – just a thankful observation.
You’re a GOOD friend indeed. May your friendship live long!
I have a sneaky feeling that this post has the potential to become some sort of compendium. Thanks SO MUCH, people:).
Yeah, I’ve turned auto attack off even in PvE, to get the hang on how to time the auto attack evades. Pity I can’t perform the full combo without a target hit by it. Or can I?
By the way, how do I deselect targets OTHER than mashing the ESC key? Yeah, I’m that newb:).
Of course, people, you’ve already given me more attention than I would ever imagine I’d get with my newbie questions:). Thank you.
All this sounds EXACTLY like I was imagining (read: smart fencing). Sounds a little overwhelming though:). Do I have to train with a friend (or guildmate) to learn all of this or is this all a result of regular play with human opponents?
I tried doing it this way, but the problem is, to my knowledge, that enemies ALWAYS choose to attack my pet and NEVER switch over to me if I don’t set the pet on passive BEFORE combat starts. Hm, am I mistaken?
This is just excellent, all of this! Thank you, good people of Tyria, especially you, Solric: I thought I could attempt feinting with the Maul, just had no idea how. And Shanks – this is what I’ve hoped for, an amalgam between timely uses of Great Sword and Longbow, to work for them in tandem, so to speak.
Did I get the idea right?
Oh, by the way, stupid question for sure, but I can’t seem to find an answer by myself: is there any way to bind the Guard/Avoid combat command to a key? I kitten near learned not to use my mouse for skills…:)

37000… Sorry, wha?.:) …eyes slowly opening ’till an unhealthy state… oh:).
I have to ask though, can you do that often enough to rely on it? Because it seems TOO appealing, truth be told:).
And surely your build has to have some disadvantages to make such hits possible?
Actually, I meant getting some general use tips. Like, I see that the weapon is quite strategic – so, how to best use this strategy? Also, concerning leveling – currently, I’m leveling in PvE, obviously, so I try to set my pet into passive mode (“avoid combat”, or what’s it called), because otherwise the pet draws all the aggro, and then I can leisurely pew-pew all day long, seems to me:). Am I doing right switching my pet off like that?
As to the game modes: I’m more interested in PvP or WvW (I did wright that, but repetition makes perfect:)… erm, did I screw the proverb?), however, since I’ve yet to finish story missions, any PvE tips would be welcome too.
I’d really like to learn something with Great Sword. Not troll, not whine, but really learn, because I like the weapon very much and the Ranger class, it seems, could make just the right use of it – close to some kind of fencing, not just rushing headlong swinging the weapon, hoping my target (targets? many targets? whole lotta targets?:)) fall before I do.
(edited by Gwaymor.4835)
Yep, I’m a weirdo. I don’t like to pew-pew all day, but two toothpicks sticking out from the hands of my Charr don’t make me happy too (no offense, dual wielders). After some quite long messing with professions I decided that the Rangers Great Sword is a weapon for me, coupled with LB where ABSOLUTELY necessary.
Any advices to help me hold my resolve high (that is, how to efficiently use the Great Sword in PvP or WvW)?:)
Also, apologies for my phrases and expressions – English’s not my native, so, doing my best… um, relatively:).
Thought as much. Oh well, thanks anet for taking my money, letting me play for less than 3 month and then flushing it all down the drain.
Eh, no big loss, the game was, to say the least, uninspiring.
Have fun, everyone:).
Thank you, Keta. I don’t suppose any of us mortals (read: non-Anet employees) could fix the problem you describe?:( Even though my post about this isn’t the only one, if I’m not mistaken.
Not a slightest?.. sorry for the bump.
Subj, actually, and hello everyone.
To elaborate: I’m running win7, and yes, my PC is a bit old, but the game ran perfectly fine before the Megaservers on medium settings (along with running almost every other recently developed game, barring the most intensive, excellently).
Now the game constantly lags even on low settings (and looks, pardon my French, absolutely crappy) , sound lags, stutters or is totally absent, player and non-player characters are VERY sporadically rendered (usually invisible for extended periods of time after entering my FoV), and so on and so forth.
Is there anything I can do to remedy all that? Besides buying a new PC and setting up top-notch internet connection. My funds are quite low at the moment, so I really can do neither of the two.
…and maybe it’s a sign of what the game has become:)?
My apologies for breaking the conversation somewhat, but before i forget – sir Not David, if you still visit this topic, could you please contact me by means of this forum? I’ve already sent you two messages, one by the forum mail and one ingame, but received no answer as of yet. Thank you.
Great! I see that there’s at least a split of opinions… which is better than what I was led to believe. It’s a game after all, right? So why the heck not?
Any more tips for me?
And guys/gals, I really DO appreciate your time. The game is HUGE – you knew that, right?:) – and navigating through all the options and variations, while trying to “stay yourself” to boot is, well, much less tiresome with such support.
Thanks again for answering, folks, appreciate it.

This is the build, not completed in regards to the equipment, since I’m just getting acquainted with all the options).
In short, I once saw a build and videos by Rendolphe, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqRa5K_kukA, and to put it plainly – it hit the spot absolutely.
I know the build is outdated.
What do you say?
Also, if not the warrior, then what class should I maybe choose if… well, me and Great Swords are eternally bound together:) It’s a joke, but, as they say, there’s truth in every joke… apologies if I reiterated the proverb incorrectly. English is, unfortunately, not my native language.

Good day everybody, I’m a complete newbie to the game’s PVP. After trying it with my level 35 warrior (maybe too soon?) and getting my behind handed to me almost every time (which is ok, I’m NOT complaining, seriously) I’ve asked here and there and the gist was “go hambow or it’s a no-go”. Is that right?
Now, I DO wanna learn to play, but with MY preferred weapon setup, which is Great Sword and Rifle. I understand this may sound odd to some (“why choose something else when there’s already a tried and true thing?”), but GW2 is a game, right? So I want to ask: will I be able to play the game the way I want or will I have to use the “tried and true”, else I’ll be gimping myself every step of the way? Or should I maybe switch to WvW, or never leave PVE at all with my setup?
I’d really like some unbiased opinions (if there are such, anyway). I’m not trolling, not whining (though I DO feel emotional about this, no argument there) or starting another flame war.
I just want to see some unbiased opinions.
Big thanks in advance to all who (hopefully) answer.
Advice:
1. Make more money Rl.
2. Make even more money RL.
3. Buy your own development company.
4. Order you own game.
5. Put this list as an answer to every game-play thread there is:).

Make money in RL. Then buy your own company. Then order your own game. Then MAYBE you get what you need:).
Now that’s what I call “a thorough explanation”. At the very least now I can choose those weapon sets for myself.
Thank you so much for that. Cleared things quite a bit:).
Cheers!
Thank you for the answer, Hayashi, but did I understand you correctly that the Great Sword was ALWAYS a sub-par choice (for the warrior, at least)? So now that it gets a second sigil, but so do the other two-handed weapons, it will remain in the same “place in the charts” relatively to the other two-handed weapons?
If so, then what class would RELATIVELY, as they say, better off using Great Sword compared to, say, hammer (if an answer to this question at all exists)? Forgive my newbness:).
(edited by Gwaymor.4835)
Hey, I mean, does anybody meaningful read this at all? Because if they do, then I’d say this: stop making Great Swords a “support weapon”!
And by the way, the same could be said in regards to all professions using the weapon.
Thank you, Countzu. I thought something along the lines when looking at the ranger’s moves with the Great Sword.
Sorry for upping the post, I’d just really like to see a perspective here. Any other input for me?
… When you see your wife and think “not puzzle jumping again!”.
So, what class would be recommended to play? With the Great Sword as main, probably PvP or Wvw oriented, preferably more or less solo… and quite many hours put into learning to play, that’s for sure:).
Well, just read the warrior’s forum – with the new dual wield trait it seems Great Swords will no longer be viable at all. Same thing about critical damage debuff (sort of). Again, I’m rally a newb, so maybe it’s me who got baffled by all the figures, but that’s why I’m asking my question.
Greetings everybody!
Great Sword eternal lover here, so bear with me, please:).
First of all, my apologies if I posted my question in the wrong forum section, or maybe shouldn’t have posted it at all for being a newbie, etc. – didn’t mean to offend, seriously.
It’s just after reading some discussions about the April 15 Feature Pack changes, I came to a conclusion that no class will ever pick Great Sword as their primary weapon from now on, especially not in serious combat engagements, such as PvP or WvW (that is, against player opponents). And being a person which, well, somehow got emotionally tied to Great Swords for all eternity, as they say, I’m asking all those who might take the time to help me – is there a future for people like me in this game?
And my apologies for maybe being too pompous. That’s just the way I feel.
