I think it’s more of people not knowing how it works. If you want to do dungeon, go to the dungeon map entrance and put LFG up. At least people in the zone can see that you’re interested in the dungeon.
Problem is most people dont bother changing their status. They are constantly ‘online’.
Last I checked, GW2 has more than just WvW. While I may not play WvW every single day for the next 7 years, I’m pretty sure it would be a major part of how I spent my time in GW2. There was absolutely no progression whatsoever in GW1 (unless you count getting Hero title progression, which we have in GW2 anyway), and I still played that all the way till GW2 released.
All I see here is former DAOC players QQing that GW2 is not DAOC2. GW2 has it’s own systems and history that they perfected from GW1. If you’re unhappy with how it is, don’t play it. The rest of us that don’t need grindy virtual rewards just so they can faceroll new players would be happy with the lower queues and having fun with people who wants to have fun.
Numbers 1 and 3 aren’t quite true.
First off, the orb hackings AFAIK were solely one guy first for SFR and then for Kodash. I don’t think Deso has hacked an orb yet, have we? I’m sure we’ve had other hackers doing stuff, but I don’t remember hearing about us hacking an orb.
And three just seems a bit unfair. We always held our own, even if we were last in the potential points. Especially when you consider we almost certainly had the outmanned buff the entire time, I think we did pretty good.
And again, as for the night capping thing. It’s always annoying and I readily admit it’s a cheesy tactic, but it’s currently legal and viable so there we go.
I’m sorry you feel that way, but I believe I’ve been really objective here. Unless I’m mistaken, Seafarer’s orb hacker got kicked from his guild and banned from their server ts after doing it. The guy then transferred to Kodash and destroyed all of Seafarer’s altars and took their orbs (as revenge maybe?). I’m not entirely sure what happened next, and if the orb hacker from Desolation is just the same guy transferring again, but it’s pretty clear all servers have their own shares of hackers (hacker?).
As for 3, it’s really hard to say you’re holding your own when you held the least amount of supply/tower/keeps etc and have the least amount of point gain (which you readily admit yourself). Regardless of whether you had outmanned or otherwise, not holding 1/3 of the pie chart is hardly holding your own.
Just for the record, I have no problems with night capping, and I’m not trying to put Desolation in a negative light by highlighting it. It’s an efficient and viable strategy, though as you put it, a bit ‘cheesy’.
Short summary of WvW for this match up:
1) There were some orb hacking in the beginning from various sides. People get kitten Seafarer’s Rest holds the lead since they are usually very organised during primetime, and weekend is a 2.5 days primetime.
2) Anet then release the new patch. Everyone get perma invisibility. Bunch of Kodash and Seafarer’s Rest get even more kitten Some guild stopped WvW till they fix it, which I understand since getting zerged by people you cant see when you’re a 5-10 group taking supply and towers can get frustrating.
3) Desolation decide to stop feeling sorry for themselves and get organising. They start doing organised WvW but still can’t hold a candle to Kodash or Seafarer’s during Prime time. Refusing to give up, they decided to set alarm clocks and start night capping after 3am.
4) Night capping pays off, desolation gain massive points and start catching up to Kodash. Invisibility issues still persist, and more Kodash and Seafarer’s guild stop WvWing.
5) Desolation gain a morale boost seeing themselves hold their own against Seafarer’s and Kodash. Even though they start losing their night capping gains in the afternoon, points are about equal even during prime time and they gain self belief, unaware that for the most part, they aren’t fighting the regular Kodash and Seafarer’s troops.
6) Desolation overtake Kodash. Kodash pugs and randoms morale continue to drop after seeing themselves moved to third. Seafarer’s Rest gets more agitated seeing Desolation becoming more aggressive, having mostly focussed on Kodash to pay them back for their Elona/Kodash gangbang two weeks ago.
7) Current state of the game.
So 2 classes in a game make a game the best test on player skill? nope
Where did I say anything about a game being the best test on player skill? That’s right I didn’t. What I did was point out DAOC was not ‘the best test of player skills’ since there are other games and classes out there that require more skill to excel at.
your first paragraph is the normal block of text that means absoultey nothing…. we dont play daoc as its 11 years old… we dont play war cause it flopped big time!
GW2’s WvWvW was advertised by ANET!!! as similaur to DAOC so dont come in here saying " if you wanna play daoc go play it" its a bs argument.
.
Please read what you just said. ‘as similaur to DAOC’. That’s right, similar.
Definition of similar from a quick google: ‘Having a resemblance in appearance, character, or quantity, without being identical’.
There you go. Never once did Anet said they are going to make an exact copy of DAOC system. Instead, they brought their own twist and ideas to GW2, which I’m more than happy to play with. It’s your own fault for thinking GW2 is actually DAOC2. It’s not. My statement stands, if you’re unhappy, go back to DAOC.
everyone agaisnt it always says “what about the new players” IMO F**k them… what about us??? we have already paid for it.. we already bought into the product.. the dream.. we leveled.. we got geared… we get left to the trash heap so the new guys can come along and think how awesome they are?
Its called balancing.. WAR rr was flawed from the begining.. daoc rr although some consider it a disadvantage is the ideal setup for any end game rvr.. rr13 took 9 years YES 9 YEARS for ONE person to achieve!
Your argument may hold some water if GW2 is a sub based game. Unfortunately for you, it’s not. It is b2p, which means each and every player in GW2 is worth the same regardless of the account age. In fact, one might put forth that new players are worth more since they are more likely to buy gems to expand their bank slots, or character limit. Your attempt at sarcasm could be used against you as well. You want RA and RR so you can pwnz noobs and feel how awesome you are?
So what if RR13 took 9 years to achieve. That in itself is a major design fault, as it only introduce a nigh endless grind, and grinding is something Anet is trying to avoid as much as possible, as stated numerous time. Feel free to look at other MMOs if you are so in love with grinds, most of them are full of it.
you need to give people the progression to get there teeth stuck into and even if you are on the bottom server with no camps or keeps u can still go out there get some kills and move yourself towards your next rank up. It shouldnt take everyone 6 days or 6 months to get max rr it should take years and years and years… thats called end game
PS. Also if you happy with the game the way it is now whats the problem with giving people more progression? you can still do what you want to do.
No, I disagree. There is absolutely no need to introduce any kind of ‘end game progression’ whatsoever in WvW. WvW rewards you with fun. The point of the game, especially GW2 is to have fun. If you introduce RR or a similar concept, then it will turn from having fun to grinding RR up to stay competitive in game. Then it will become work. Look at Diablo 3 Inferno pre-nerf (or even it’s current form if you like). Grinding to get a few pieces of upgrades so you can move on to the next area and hit another brick wall is never fun. Neither is going up against an invader not only in full exotics but also with high RR or RA abilities.
And for argument sake, what happened when you finally reach cap? What happened to all those RR80 in Warhammer? What happened to your RR13 in DAOC? They quit. They finally rejoice at hitting cap since they can finally stop grinding renown and afking in forts or waiting 1 hour for a scenario to pop only to leave when they see the opposing team is a premade. Why do you think Mythic raised the RR cap to 100? So the grind doesnt stop.
There is no need for any sort of ‘ranking progression’. It is nothing more than an kitten measuring tool, and I do not want to see the return of ‘R8+ group lfm, wolf for inv’ chat spam.
If you love small fights, Scepter MH/Dagger OH for Ele is king. Build your ele right, along with complementary utility skills (immobilised, chill etc) and with just fire attunement alone, you can do 10-18k spike damage. Attunement dancing between fire, lightning and earth gives you some pretty brutal CC as well.
This is not DAOC. Neither is it Warhammer. This is GW2. If you want DAOC or Warhammer RvR system, along with its Realm Abilitys and Renown Ranks in place, then you know which games you should play. If you feel you have no incentive to WvW because it lacks RA and RR, then feel free to leave. These features are completely against new players who would feel they have to grind their way up RR to be of any use. Look at how badly Warhammer failed. No new player wants to farm 80 RR ranks. Most old players aren’t willing to make a new character and farm 80 RR ranks again.
I’m perfectly happy with how the system is right now, and don’t need any sort of further rewards other than the FUN of organised large scale battle and seeing superior numbers fall to my organised party/squad/warband doing flanking manoeuvres or surgical strikes to take out catapults and trebuchets. And if my action helps my server hold on to points and win the weekly match up to move up in ranks, that’s just icing.
As for DAOC being the best test of player skills, you obviously never played an interrupt ranger or PD mesmer being told to focus on a prot monk in GvG/HA.
If putting badges directly in player’s inventory will cause more problems than solve it, then I suggest they remove badge/coin/mat drop altogether. Instead, have an npc at spawn point that you can talk to who rewards you the badges/coin/loot bags for your kills, caps and more.
To put it simply, instead of all the drops spawning at your feet, it will go towards a holding ‘bank’ of sort (the npc), which you can talk to whenever you’re back at the spawn point to collect your drops.
We played Baruch’s Bay last match up and they barely had any presence unless it’s approaching or at peak times. Their South Americans players are not exactly numerous and didn’t post much of a threat when they try night capping. Blacktide with their russians (Xaoc guild mainly) were more of a problem and usually nightcap most of the map. Situation is usually similar or worst off than the screenshot you posted earlier, but we still managed to get back on our feet and won the match up, mainly due to people actually started going to wvw during the day (after 9am) instead of pveing. In the end, we managed to keep a 30k lead for most of the week.
Point is, you can still win even if your side don’t have a decent night presence. Getting discouraged and qqing about it on the forums when ANet has repeatedly said this is intended is not going to help you win the match up. Man up and get stuck in.
Edit:
@ Spiritus
As mentioned above, Blacktide has a significant night presence due to Xaoc guild, but their day presence isn’t anything special. You should be able to win the match up if you don’t let them hold their spoils all the way through the middle of the afternoon. Get some morning/noon players in wvw and recap them.

Imo, weapon swapping should only be allowed out of combat for Ele. In combat, you’re lock with the weapon you currently use. It’s quite frustrating to always switch to staff to buff speed on my group before switching back to scepter/dagger, or having to keep switching from dagger/focus to staff when I’m going to defend a keep.
While the night population in WvW is indeed an issue for Seafarer’s Rest, the fact that the server is obsessed with Eternal Battleground is a more pressing (and avoidable) concern. No point holding Stonemist and dominating in EB when we lack any significant presence in all 3 borderlands unless it’s prime time.
