I wish we could tell you something helpful, but we don’t have any advice that would either speed up your Internet connection or the speed of the download server. Sorry. I wish we could do something for you.
Man and it sucks because i had it at like 30% the other day. It really bothers me that it doesn’t start at 30% but at 1%….
I could be wrong, but I believe the 30% you downloaded early is still actually downloaded. The new “1%” you’re seeing is in reference to the remainder you still have left. In other words, it didn’t restart from the beginning. It’s simply ignoring whatever you downloaded previously as already being completed.
The reason people think it’s dumb to take time off work is that the people who do it try to use it as an entitlement. For example: “this better work for me, and be great because I’m sacrificing work time to do this”, which is just plain dumb. I’ve scheduled trips to Disneyland only to find that my favorite ride is shut down for repairs, I get disappointed for a second and then I enjoy the fact that I’m at Disneyland.
It’s really discouraging to see how people react when things aren’t going 100% their way.
This isn’t a case where one particular ride isn’t functioning however. This is a case where the one and only draw that’s been promoted as a one-time-only event is not functioning properly or simply not functioning at all. We in effect already live in Disneyland on a daily basis. So the idea of consoling oneself with the notion that the rest of the game still functions isn’t all that palatable. People are here because this is a limited event that by Anet’s own word is never going to happen again. It’s not the consumer’s fault for wanting to be a part of such a limited experience. At worst it’s the consumer’s fault for trusting in Anet’s ability to deliver what they are promoting. Only in gaming it seems is this deemed to be the customer’s fault for believing that a company is going to provide what they say they will.
First mistake – Taking time off work to play a video game
Second mistake – Thinking everything would work perfectly on the first dayThe games 2 months old and Anet are still getting used to how to do events properly and compensate for massive amounts of people flocking to them. If you just expect everything to work perfectly your going to be disappointed.
If you think you can do it better, apply to work there.
If not, relax, its just a game, dont take time off work to play a game..thats just silly
By that logic I would say the “mistake” just as equally falls on Anet’s shoulders for promoting a one-time-only event that virtually all loyal fans are going to do their utmost to be part of only to provide mostly broken or unplayable content. Maybe the real mistake is supporting this kind of content in the manner Anet hopes it’s players will when — according to you — they’re not properly prepared for such grand undertakings.
Regardless of whether you hold the opinion that taking time off work to play a game is a “mistake” or not, the fact remains Anet promoted an extremely limited event and needs to be capable of delivering. And incidentally, taking time off work for a game is no different than taking time off to watch a sporting event or a movie premier or a concert or any other non-working activity one might wish to partake in. It’s recreation. People always have — and always will — take time off work for recreational purposes. In particular people frequently do so for one-time-only or limited-time-only events.
I think that the game doesn’t support the concept of people keeping a specific role like “healer” or “tank” however everyone can deal damage and support others at the same time. You should discard what you know and try to grasp this style instead.
See, I think it’s easy enough to say this and yet the fact remains that a group of players can indeed form a perfectly viable “trinity” style group. I’d even go so far as to say some situations benefit significantly from players taking on more specific roles. The game definitely supports such behavior and the OP is a perfect example of that. By dedicating their time towards ensuring other players stay on their feet throughout the course of an encounter they are absolutely providing a needed service because the odds are without their input the encounter would devolve into a series of downed state players constantly needing to be rezzed.
I think it’s a legitimate complaint/concern. In the first couple days of the game I too had issues with some of the big events in terms of receiving a bronze or silver instead of a gold. This despite being actively involved with the encounter from start to finish. I thought for a time perhaps it was due to swapping weapons and maybe my damage count was resetting upon each swap. But then I realized the real culprit. When I saw players dead or in downed state I made it a point of stopping my attacks and getting them back on their feet. There’s no question doing this helped not only those players specifically but the encounter as a whole, yet the reality is I lost precious DPS and therefor the game itself deemed my involvement to be minimal.
Why Anet would allow for /guild to be bannable conversations: Because even within every “adult” guild I’ve ever been in there’s always been a clear distinction made between allowing players freedom to swear and make crude comments and players who wish to be bigots, racists, and sexual predators. Anet can’t simply close the door on this and say “well, it was in guild chat and your guild allows vulgar speach so there’s nothing we can do”.
Why Anet would allow for /party or /whisper to be bannable conversations: Because being flirtatious and playful with another player doesn’t mean they are consenting to full-on explicit commentary and what I would loosely describe as “Goldshire” activity. Again, Anet has to reserve their right to act upon such instances where players stop being playful and become harassing and/or unwarrantedly obscene.
My over-arching hope in all this is that Anet’s investigations in each report they receive takes into account the actions of all parties involved. So the example of the jilted girlfriend I would think it quite obvious based upon previous chat that BOTH players were equal participants. Hence why Anet also leaves open their right to punish false and/or malicious accusors as well.
In short, there’s perfectly legitimate reasons why Anet can’t simply allow /guild, /party or even /whisper to be “anything goes” chat options.
