My warrior is currently level 66. Knowing it doesn’t have any healing abilities

I stopped right there, mentally. Since I presume you are new to warriors, I advise you to visit the #6 healing skill slot on the char again. If you’d like even more, also under Defense mastery traitline, third column from left to right passive trait – “Adrenal Health”. If even after that, your question still applies, let me know.

@redcomyn It’s all cool. I was simply giving the OP the general consensus and standards, which of course would have some variants. If you prefer dual swords, by all means, play it your way. Surviving using the GS, like I mention, all depends on your maneuvers—when to dodge, whirl evade, and charge. Your secondary weapon also matters a lot. If you master your build/weapon choices, you can win 1v1 no matter what you chose, though there will always be build counters.

I cannot speak for guardians, but they do have a different GS skill set—the play style could be different.

Cheers,

This is where it gets tricky; your 1-handed choices are more diverse and versatile. I’ll try to break it down for you. First, know that 1) axes, 2) swords, and 3) maces can be wielded 2 of the same or 1/1 of different kinds. Furthermore, your off-hand choices also include a) shield or b) warhorn.

1 handed
Axe – whether it’s chopping wood or chopping limps, they’re the same—axe does not care. In contrast to the GS, axes focus more on precision and ferocity (critical chance and dmg) rather than raw dmg. It also has a higher Auto Atk chain dmg than the GS, although the latter inflicts vulnerability (better for group instances/world bosses). Rather you want to dual wield axes or use a GS when it comes to offensive melee AoE, it all depends on your own play-style. Keep in mind however, that while it’s great for general PvE, world bosses cannot be crit on, therefore making axes inferior to GS in that aspect. (It also lacks might stacking, but the huge spike from crits make up for it in solo situations.)

Mace – bash your foes head in with this wrecking ball. Think of it as a one-handed hammer. Great for defensive builds/intent and offers handy CC, a block, and weakening. It’s not recommended, however, to use dual mace, as there are better options. Keep this weapon in mind for survivability and/or support.

Sword – in looks, this is the GS’s little brother. However, for a warrior, this is the only other weapon save Longbow that uses what little conditions afflicting effects available to warriors. The memo with the swords is bleed, bleed, and bleed. Seriously. Cripple and immobilize your foes so you can cut their wrists (or you know… anywhere really) and bleed them to death, while throwing in some tormenting. This is not a viable PvE weapon choice, but rather excels in PvP/WvW for agile combat and chasing.

Off hand only
Shield – offers a long cd stun and 3-sec block. There really isn’t much to say about this except to use it on a day you feel like a guardian. Since there really isn’t the conventional healer/tanker concept on GW2, the shield can be rather inefficient in most cases.

Warhorn – oh, people will shout your name in WvW when you blow into it, along with prayers to God. WH is the paragon for warrior support builds. It’s mainly seen in WvW but group instances can benefit from it as well. It’s highly efficient in granting speed boost while removing all movement-impeding conditions (chills, immobilize, cripple) and endurance (dodge energy regeneration) while weakening enemy attacks in range.

GL and hope to see you rocking it like a pro IG!

Those are very general questions, and so, you’re asking a huge range of information. I’ll help you out by narrowing down your weapon choice. When you’re in combat, you can only have 2 weapons (tab in/out) at once, but OOC (out-of-combat) you can switch anytime you’d like. First, all of warriors weapon choices and their respective skills are listed here for a quick overview: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_warrior_skills

Now, a brief insight into which weapon focuses on what aspect of battle, and ultimately, the choice is up to you:

2-handed
Greatsword – no doubt the embodiment of a warrior, hacking and slashing down all foes that stands before you. This is warriors’ main attraction for melee AoE, high dmg, and might-stacking (might is a boon that ups your pwr/dmg with an intensity stack max of 25). It is extremely suitable for PvE and equally your best friend in raw damage output in PvP. The GS is an offensive choice that offers low CD, mid-high dps cleaving skills in return for survivability (that will be up to your positioning, maneuvering, and dodging.)

Hammer – Unleash the wrath of your hammer upon unsuspecting foes to create new holes in them. Unfortunately, this is not your go-to for general uses. The hammer suffers from long CD and mediocre damage. It’s coupled with more defensive builds. However, it is a master when it comes to melee AoE CCs in both PvE and WvW/sPvP. Using this weapon in combat will let you whack-a-mole your enemies with knockdowns, knockbacks, and slam dunks.

Longbow – Who said longbow are for archers? In GW2, professions knows no bound. The LB is the top contender for a warrior’s mid-long range AoE dmg. It is the most conditional dmg weapon that a warrior has access to, letting you burn, bleed, and even immobilize your enemies. While great for fighting against groups, it does have a below standard range for long-ranged weapons.

Rifle – this is your shotgun for the impending zombie apocalypse. A fully long range weapon that deals mid to mid-high raw dmg on single target. While there’s a trait that you can equip to make your ammo piercing, this baby is mainly used for ranging world bosses, and to a lesser extent, 1v1 (or roaming) in WvW or open world PvE.

I It’s funny you mention about it being a duel build because I took the weapons with pvp in mind—starting with axe/horn to buff/condi enemy then focus on lbow for majority of dmg. Could you also suggest a trait build around my choices? I’m having a bit of a struggle

But your condis will not do much damage since you have no condi damage unless I suppose you take celestial. The thing is, enemies aren’t going to let you toss out some condition on your axe from 900, then retreat back to use your longbow. You must open with your longbow and then swap weapons when they come in close. But axe/warhorn doesn’t give you any defensive abilities. Sword/torch and axe/dagger would be a better choice or sword/x or greatsword plus longbow works much better.

Oh, for condis, I meant the weakness ill that axe #3 gives, and not really focus on the single bleed skill #2. I’m also hoping that the survival mud traps, longbow kb + #5 aoe cripple + trait cripple, would keep them at bay. Yeah, I see what you mean — I have no close range offense/defense whatsoever. I’m from conventional mmos so when I made a ranger, I still had a keep range mentality.

1st of all…
… Axe does not really come in hand with the longbow for a simple purpose.

Longbow is Power based weapon and Axe is condi based weapon. And all up to that – warhorn is a utility weapon (not even damage weapon at all).

That being said – your weapon set is not really effective in any way you build it. None.
Regardless of what rune set we suggest – your results would be inferior to any meta build currently available.

But if you insist on running these weapons – I suggest you to get a jack of all trades – Celestial amulet.
Your runes would definitely be runes of the Pirate. Just because your condition damage is not high enough, your power damage is not high enough, and your build will mostly be for dueling – that’s why the Parrot Spawned will be your highest damage output.

For the traits, I’d personally run something like this.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQNBjODbkQlGW7YxlFuWDYIUtPhWoEYFAuLi49qLYSF-TpRHwAFuAABOIACOCAAeAAHLDoe/BA

The build is basically set around hybrid damage paired with high might investment for improving both, while boosting direct damage through pets from Runes and your own. Offers nice disruption via Chill, Root, Fear, Blind and Knockback.
Also – Warhorn will deal some extra damage since it will apply some random bleeds.

Well, I’m afraid that’s as far as my creativity goes.
You really took the most horrible weapons to go with =D

I figured so — I notice how ranger’s LB (I’m a warr main) is direct dmg and not condi at all, unlike warr’s, making the build very split. I know it isn’t meta, but I want to try something different, and I like the full range to mid-range instead of a full range and a melee (I’d like to range kite on ranger all the time, and I’ve heard of animation problems with the sword main.) It’s funny you mention about it being a duel build because I took the weapons with pvp in mind--starting with axe/horn to buff/condi enemy then focus on lbow for majority of dmg. Could you also suggest a trait build around my choices? I’m having a bit of a struggle

HawkEyeMihawk.1258

Hi,
I need some advice from an exp ranger, preferably someone who has one as starter/main.
I already decided on my weapons so I’m not so much looking into weapon builds.

I will be using a longbow & axe/warhorn for pretty much everything; I chose longbow because that’s the main long-range, high dmg weapon for all occasions, and the axe/warhorn with intent to buff me & allies while de-buffing enemies (good for both pvp and pve) at the same time (#1 axe skill is good for building mights too I think).

1) What stats am I looking to invest in/focus on for gears? (Please don’t simply say berserker.)

2) What rune set(s) is good for my weapon selection builds?

3) Sigils suggestions for longbow, axe, and warhorn?

4) I’m currently playing sPvP in signet skills (with decent to great result). I read/find trap skills kind of bothersome to execute/useless/easy to avoid. Can you recommend some signature skills for sPvP, WvW in zerg, WvW when roaming, and PvE?

5) Which traitline should I be running?

6) I’m completely lost on the sheer number of pets…. Recommendations? (I’m currently using raven/brown bear. Raven for raw dmg and supposedly higher hp vs felines, and bear for condi remove/tankier pet).

Thanks a lot in advance & will appreciate any insight into this overwhelming class. The most helpful responder will also receive a little token of gratitude from me.

Hello everybody,
I’m a relative novice seeking a dungeon & fractals running guild that does weekly missions (bounty, rush, challenge, and puzzle).
My timezone is eastern US (EST), and I’m a casual~semi-hc player who plays during free time. My preference is a chill but organized guild (emotionally matured 18+) that likes to have a fun game time and steer away from drama. (I don’t mind if RP or not.)
Mucho gracias,

P.S. HODOR.

Asking Questions In-game Chat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

HawkEyeMihawk.1258

For newer players, asking questions is a critical way to learn more about GW2. I’m sure the majority of the player population here is fine with offering their help for newbies because they all been through that stage. We will kindly assist with any questions that may be hard-to-find, in-depth, mechanism-related, or otherwise subjective. (ie. builds, tactics, guides, maximizing potential, etc.) However, there are particular players who may find that using a search engine from opening a web browser taxing or burdensome.
So, here are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions IG:

“What boss event is going on right now?”
Boss event timer

“How do you craft ascended gear?”
Ascended equipment

“Where can I find specific crafting materials?”
Crafting materials

“What time is it?”

Time at your location or somewhere on your desktop screen or bottom right mini-map corner of your game screen

If you would like to know more answers to commonly asked questions, you can visit our proud sponsor at http://google.com/ for your initial needs. If you’re still having trouble, ask away IG and hopefully someone can help you out. That’s all, folks!

Yours truly,

Balanced stance 5 stacks?

in Warrior

Posted by: HawkEyeMihawk.1258

HawkEyeMihawk.1258

They killed balanced stance for warriors, diminishing the profession yet again. Balance stance was your go-to skill to deal with CC in groups and zergs for 8 up to 10 seconds. Now that the system has been switched to stacks… G freaking G. The least they could have done was to make it last full 40 seconds, and not 8 mere seconds of severely limited stability.
