What I’m going for :
Cheetah for the shadowstep if it work with Beastly Warden and for the pull.
Jacaranda AoE damage/zoning with heals and cleanse.
Alternative :
Black Bear with Defy Pain and Unflinching Fortitude.
Gazelle seems really good for 1v1 with a 900 range dash and daze.
Smokescale is always great with Smoke Assault, a Knockdown and a Smoke Field for stealth.
Bristleback for condi build.
Agreed !
Never tough of this,
but this would be a great QoL change.
Great Overall.
Tried Mostly Soulbeast and Weaver.
SoulBeast :
Super Fun to play, but feels really clunky. Dagger is slow and as low damage output (power and condition). There was a lot of bugs/glitchs with trait and skill. Stance were not as impressive as I tough they would be. Animation are great (at least for me). Everything doesn’t seem to synergize well together, at least not as well as the Weaver. Not being able to swap pet in beastmode made it weird to play, but maybe it’s because I’m not used to it yet.
Weaver :
Really really fluid gameplay, a little bit slower than expected, but its alright. I wasn’t able to do as much damage as Tempest or core Elementalist, maybe because I’m not used to it.Trait synergize well together, with new skill, new Stance and with others trait line too. Stance in general are good, maybe not as good as cantrip, but still. Strangely I was doing better in 1v1 with the staff.

After some thinking,
Switching pet while in beastmode might be a tad too strong…
You get to heal with the Pig f3 (4.5~6.5K heal), You can knockdown with f2, assuming you land it, you can get a pretty big conversion. ex : Switch to gazelle/smokescale into wordly impact, f2 and Maul. If they use a breakstun you can just get out of beastmode and your pet pig/gazelle can still knockdown and you don’t loose much when doing so (still have swoop, hilt bash, and all your utilities including your heal).
I still think that gameplay wise it will be much more fluid this way and get even more combo options which is always great.
- VULTURE STANCE – This stance feels okay as well but I’m not sure in what situation I’ll use it – again, plenty of access to might and poison. Maybe add a +33% condi duration when in this stance to add more utility? Like moa increases boons, this one would increase condi durations
This is something I can get Behind !
I am confident you could have beaten all your opponents on core ranger as well. Soulbeast certainly is more fun than core ranger though, because using gs and maul (buffing itself) is worth using over sword auto attacks in terms of dps.
Yeah because Elite specs shouldn’t be a “buffed” core class, it should only change it gameplay wise.
Nice video !
SoulBeast is fun to play for sure.
Just need to be polished in the right way.
Fix couple of bugs, change some traits and give dagger better purpose and it would be awesome.
I personally feel that Beastmode should have less CD. ( and maybe the so debated pet swap ? not sure… )
But otherwise great class, feels rewarding to play.
Agreed !
If they want us to alternate between pet and Beast skill, they should give us reward by doing so, not force us to do so.
Like Bonus (Boons, Damage Boost, Damage Reduction, etc) when entering and leaving Beastmode while being able to swap pet in Beastmode.
The CD reduction on the beastmode is needed, 10s is huge.
And I would even split this cooldown between going in Beastmode and going out of Beastmode. like 4~5s to leave Beastmode when you enter it and 4~5s to re-enter Beastmode when you leave it, would be awesome!
My take on a trait redux.
This give the actual feeling that you make strategic choice in your SoulBeast Trait and that those choice will be impactful on your gameplay much more than currently.
I feel like Fresh Reinforcement should share our boons to your pet when leaving Beastmode too.
I really like your idea for Leader Of The Pack, I can actually see it being really useful in Zerg or GvG especially with the dolyak stance (which might be a little too powerful combined with this trait).
Oppressive Superiority in my opinion, should be reworked,
I don’t really like this trait to begin with, should at least give condition damage, not condition duration.
There is power burst which largely revolves around the 40% dmg shout and also there is currently a broken gazelle bet. Both are one trick ponies that won’t really help you in PvE content and that won’t work in anything but low rank spvp. Also gazelle and Sick ’Em! are very likely to get nerfed.
Yeah, I totally agree on this point.
I tested SoulBeast first since ranger is my main class and at first I tough it was dealing enormous damage, but after playing Holosmith, Weaver and Deadeye, this is quite pitiful, not because it doesn’t do damage, but because you mostly need sick’em on a 40s CD combined with 1~2 awfully slow skill to do those damage, furthermore it can easily get blocked / evaded.
And as you said, these are most likely gonna be nerfed at some point. The same goes for GS Maul which instantly proc AoO.

I find the SoulBeast very amusing to play,
But it feel a bit clunky.
The purpose of not giving the ability to swap pet is because they don’t want rangers to stay in Beastmode forever.
Suggestion :
To fix that, they could reward us by entering AND leaving Beastmode, like giving 5 stack Might + Fury. This would synergize well with the trait Unstoppable Union.
However, this still won’t work because there’s no cooldown to leave Beastmode when entering it. Only to re-enter it after leaving it (~10s). It would feel much more fluid to split this cooldown, 6s cooldown when entering Beastmode and 6s when leaving it. And this would work better with the reward of entering/leaving Beastmode. With maybe a trait that could reduce it to 4~5s.
The pet swap while in Beastmode would share its cooldown with the normal pet swap.
Once that is done we could have pet swap while in Beastmode and the SoulBeast gameplay would be way more fluid.
Trait line are really clunky too. I mean, check the Weaver, there’s clearly a path to go more superspeed oriented build that synergize with Fresh Air Trait and an other to go more dual attack oriented build. I would like to see that with the Soulbeast. ex: quickness oriented, beastmode oriented, condition oriented, etc
