Greetings viewer, today, tonight, yesterday, or tomorrow I would like to purpose the idea for new development of the WvW system.
For years WvW has consisted of defending premade camps, towers, and keeps and advancing to enemy borderlands just so they could defend the same way. Though this was fun in the beginning, it now has a mental drag and no longer refreshes
the spirit of war. And since the desert borderlands given to us for the Heart of Thorns expansion has been rejected by the majority of displeased fans.
I purpose a new survival/conquest WvW system. Instead of the traditional map where you defend what was already made for you, the Mist Wastes(just a name for example) is an untamed terrain where you claim, build, and hold territory for your world. Nothing as big as a garrison but strategically placed base camps, towers, or villages used for claiming specific areas filled with riches, materials, etc; anything that could serve purpose to the Mist War.
This could open positions for new types of group gameplay instead of the traditional, organized, stampeding players, you could have scouting parties to patrol the areas for wondering massive boss npcs or advancing soldiers, warbands out in search for enemy server strongholds, or designated defenders for claimed locations.
With the massive size of the new WvW zones, and no waypoints to travel at ease, this could lead to the opportunity to introduce airships, helicopters, or gliders in WvW for transportation or domination.
Another aspect to consider, Guild Wars 2 isnt very roleplayer friendly (as in nothing for them to truly roleplay) , classes would be given roles to contribute to the their server. For example; Rangers could tame the local wildlife or flora to become defenders of settlements. Mesmers could use cloaking magic to protect establishments from being seen by the naked eye. Engineers could contruct the buildings from the ground up, with their choice in architect designs. Just something for players individually to occupy themselves with the benefit for their world.
That is just my idea, I have been loyal to this game since the last months of beta, and the first Guild Wars. I would hope to see WvW develop into something truly immersive, thoroughly structured, and community bonding fun. I appreciate what ArenaNet has held up for the past couple of years, and I’m not demanding or saying do it now, but just something to possibly build up on in the future.
I did ask for the thoughts of my guild and other Guild Wars 2 WvWorlders before bringing this to the forums, all were in favor, but that’s not the majority of players in higher or lower tier servers. So, leave your feedback if you find this vision appealing or appalling.
Thank you for your time.
