Possible Fix One: Update Driver
Possible Fix Two: Disable Anti-aliasing (Also check to make sure your not overheating)
(Nvidia) Some have reported that changing power management mode to “Prefer maximum performance” has fixed the issue
Possible Fix Three: Underclock by about 20%
Possible Fix Four: Either plug directly into your modem or in your router settings, disable you router firewall (For DIR-601 routers, uncheck SPI in firewall settings)

A lot of people are experiencing different kinds of black screens, normally the black screens that lock up the computer, cause BSoD’s and crash are driver/hardware related issues as well as settings.
Normally the black screen where your cursor is still visible, sound is still working, and you are able to close the game, are connection related which means guild wars 2 probably doesn’t like your router.
@Taz hope it works out for you

I managed to fix the issue just by disabling SPI
What has fixed the issue for some DIR-601 owners is to disable SPI in the routers firewall settings, I did this as well and haven’t black screened since
I’d imagine I would be experiencing this issue myself because I also own a laptop… but I took the bottom off my laptop a year ago, never goes above 85 degrees C under load
I’m amused at peoples impatience, “bad programming” while I admit the game does have its issues such as a certain black screen >>, all I have to say is if your whining about a refund due to bad programming then obviously you never played World of Warcraft when it first came out, that game was so bugged it hurt, and yet it soon became the giant that rocked our world --….
Give the game a chance, if not I won’t miss you
Yep gonna have to say that the DIR-601 seems to be an issue for those that own one.
Just letting you guys know, there are a few other people I know with the same router DIR-601 that are getting black screens, it seems the fix is either to switch routers and plug into the modem. This is not definite for some people, as this seems to be happening to other routers as well but very specific routers.
Edit: This is referring to the black screen with cursor and sound issue, black screens that crash computer, cause BSoD’s and locking up the computer won’t be fixed by plugging into the modem

I want to make sure I have this right before I get all excited but were talking about the black screen where your cursor is still there and sound is still playing, and the game can be minimized and closed.
because thats my specific issue, and I am also using a DIR-601 O_O >_> could it be GW2 hates that specific model…
EDIT: Gonna give my old router an EBR-2310 a shot, will post back with my findings
EDIT: No black screens so far, pretty certain its the DIR-601 thats causing this issue, GG people problem solved

hmmm I also have this issue, screen goes completely black and only my cursor is still visible as well as sound still works, really frustrating issue considering I only use one graphics card, it isn’t a heat issue have been updating to beta drivers, no anti aliasing, all graphics set to low, have tried letting nvidia control the graphics that just made it worse lol, tried all the above stuff like Mencae
Was really hoping somebody had a definite fix for this
