Good luck.

Thanks! It’s good to know that my Guardian doesn’t have a brain tumor, which was my wife’s theory.

Haunted by a strange Apparation

I would like to share a story today; one that might send chills down your spine.

It began two days ago, July 10th, 2017. Picture a man, a Guardian of humble stature, on a stroll with his beautiful wife one night through the Salma District of Divinity’s Reach. The man gets a few paces ahead, chasing after a cat, and turns the corner into Manor Hill.

And that’s where he sees it: A tall human-like figure that glows with an otherworldly aura. The figure stands there, silent and unmoving, facing the Guardian but with his head dropped towards the ground. The Guardian reels back in shock, prompting his wife to hurry to him. She looks in the same direction as his gaze, yet she sees nothing. A few seconds later, the figure disappears from the Guardian’s sight. He shrugs it off, and continues his midnight stroll with his love.

The next day the Guardian goes to fight the Inquest in the Crucible of Eternity. Yet again the figure appears to him. It gazes at him from the corner of a lab, but as soon as he catches sight of it, it vanishes.

At first the Guardian was afraid of the apparation, but now he wonders what it could mean. Is the spirit trying to communicate with him? What is it trying to tell him? Or is its intentions more…sinister?

Smarter Dueling

in WvW

Posted by: Hibiki.4065

Hibiki.4065

Over the past year I’ve been seeing a recurring scenario in World vs. World and Edge of the Mists; I enter a map and start the trek to my zerg alone. Right when I’m about to reach my zerg I see it: two or more people, one of them my ally, duking it out in the middle of the map. Whenever I do see this I, like the fool I am, only see an ally in need of assistance and decide to try and help fight them off. And as soon as I start attacking my ally immediately stops everything, backs off, and spams local chat with “STOP WE’RE DUELING.” Then I’m ganged up on by all the enemies that were in the area, and none of my team members come to my aide. Not only that but my allies will not even resurrect me when I’m killed, forcing me to go back to a waypoint and begin the journey back to my zerg again.

I understand that it was my misunderstanding that led to my death. I also understand that builds are different in WvW then in SPvP so there’s a need for people to test them in WvW. What I don’t understand is why the locations people have chosen for these duels are in plain sight of any passerby, or in the middle of high-zerg traffic areas. For example: In Edge of the Mists, there is apparently an unofficial “dueling area” that has become more frequently used. It’s right next to the Inferno’s Reactor, which is constantly passed by zergs or people trying to catch up to zergs throughout the 3 hour match period. I’ve also seen people dueling in front of SM in Eternal Battlegrounds, within reach of the cannons. People even duel right outside of respawn points. There are thousands of other locations that are much more inconspicuous than this. For instance, the ruins in any of the two alpine borderlands, or just off the road leading to the north camp (by the skritt or centaur camps). The Obsidian Sanctum JP also has a large flat area at the start, and many people who enter the JP will never attack anybody unless they’re feeling trolly. As for Edge of the Mists, there’s a large underside to the map that is far less traveled by zergs with many platforms that seem ideal for dueling. I know that there are duelers who chose to go to these more inconspicuous locations, and I appreciate that. For those who don’t, please try to understand that WvW has conditioned many people to attack on sight. It’s much easier to move yourselves somewhere safe then to expect everyone to just run by you.

But another behavior has developed off of these duelers that has become a real problem. There are many gankers who go to areas like the unofficial dueling area by Inferno’s generator and pose as duelers. Because it’s become habitual now for zergs to pass duelers the gankers are completely ignored. Then the gankers proceed to attack the tail of the zerg, without fear of reprisal. There are also people who are “observing” duels that will sometimes actively attack a passerby, even if said passerby has no intention of attacking them because they’ve recognized that they are dueling. It’s a sick behavior and it makes it hard for people to tell the difference between a dueler and a troll.

What I think would permanently solve this problem though is if Arenanet just creates the option to challenge anyone to an open duel. The challenged can chose to accept or reject the challenge, and the duel only continues until someone is downed. Many other MMOs have already had this feature in their games for years. Arenanet may have not included it because from the start they’ve wanted this game to be about teamwork and cooperation, and open dueling may seem a little too “loner” for their tastes. But dueling is a great way for people to socialize and to build their personal skill and, yes, to test a new build. Putting an open dueling feature in would clear up a lot of confusion and frustration that develops because of gankers, and give an outlet for real duelers to play the game they want to without having to go to extreme measures. To be clear, I don’t want dueling to go away, I just want it to be smarter.

Feedback on HoT Stress Test [merged]

My main issue with the stress test was the low frame rate. My comp definitely isn’t high end but the game usually runs smoothly. But the new areas like Dry Top and the Silverwastes give it a hard time, and the same was sadly true for the Beta area. It mainly occurred when smoke, flames, and explosions were on my screen, sadly the entire area was pretty much all smoke, flames and explosions. Getting a separate graphics settings for those effects would be awesome.

The Revenant was fun to experiment with and it feels like we only got a taste for the class, but it’s easy to tell already that they’ll be a big compliment to zergs in WvW. Most of their skills seem intended for zerg use (i.e. the long path of stability and a kitten ton of AoE attacks). But again, it feels like we only got a taste of what the class is like, especially since it was with a predesigned set of balanced stats. Facing a full zerker Revenant with their current skill set would be terrifying.

The gliding was the coolest mechanic in the test in my opinion. I see a few people in this thread complaining about it but it seemed to fit my expectations and it was really fun to just fool around with it. My favorite thing to do was to jump off a high point and start gliding, watching the people fight below me, then drop into a hotspot and start killing things like I was Batman. If you have any new ideas for gliding, I can’t wait to see them.

All in all I enjoyed the stress test, but there’s some room for improvement. I am anxious to see what’s in store for the expansion. Thanks for including me in this test, I hope to be in open beta too!

"The Juggernaut" graphics bug

Hi, just a slight graphics bug with the legendary hammer Juggernaut here. The quicksilver in the tube appears to form a spike on the end of the hammer when it’s swung. It’s not very noticeable, but I figure with the amount of time that was spent to get it, it’s worth making sure it works properly. Pictures included.

The patch made my shoulders gigantic!

Some of my friends have said that Anet is focuses on the March 4th update completely because it’s going (Spoiler Alert) to be the conclusion to the Scarlet story arc. From what I have read though, it sounds like they have had this problem before in the past and have fixed it (obviously or else we wouldn’t be talking about it right now).

In my opinion then, there is no reason that the fix shouldn’t be included in the update tomorrow. If it truly was a problem in the past then it should be an easy fix that has already been done. And even if it hasn’t happened in the past, in my experience with modding meshes in other games a similar fix like this could be done by an amateur in less then an hour. All of these facts lead up to the simple truth that this problem should be dealt with as soon as possible and the next update is as soon as possible.

But like I said, this is my opinion. Because we haven’t had a response from a dev, other then the one redirecting King xiuras to this thread and then not giving him an answer, there’s really no way to know for sure.

still rboken don“t care for charr atm. charrs palyers get a charr cultural for now. if fixing your issue means making new ones for others its not worth it. i want my normal hotw shoulder back. if you ahve to static the should then jsut on charrs not everyone kitten

I agree. If the change was intentional (and the intention was to make the shoulders look better on Charr) then they could’ve done something to make the change only apply to Charrs at least. Even so I think we deserve a reply from Anet to clarify.

Stupid bug, prolly caused by the introduction of the new armor. My friends and I believe that they used the HotW armor mesh to make the heavy armor and probably made the changes to the actual armor by mistake. Idk tho, we should at least get a response soon. Keep bugging anet and sending in bug reports. There’s a few threads and posts on this topic now. Hopefully quaggan related items won’t get priority over this.

Bigger shoulder armor????

Even so, it clips into the chest of many of the other races even when they’re standing straight. I don’t want to be unsentimental, I know how hard it is to find good armor for charr, but human and human-like characters take up a majority of the population and for them the shoulders look pretty binned now.

I’ve seen several other posts and threads on this topic in other places including in Josh Davis’ issues with armor etc thread. No mention of this change has been in any patch notes so far, and no Anet employee has responded to any of it either.

My friends and I suspect it could’ve happened if they used the HotW mesh to make the new Zodiac armor and accidentally made the changes to the shoulders. Hopefully we’ll get an answer soon. Until then keep bugging the hell out of them.

Having the same issues…clips whenever I do an idle animation or I’m just standing. Kinda sucks, this is one of the few heavy sets that look good on guard. Hopefully this change is unintentional. And even if it was intentional hopefully they realize it’s a mistake and change it back
