High survival builds for squishier classes?

in Profession Balance

I would like to know if you guys know any high survivability focused builds for the squishier classes.
This means any class that isn’t a Guardian/Warrior/Necromancer, because at least for me, these are the kings of survivability.

I really love playing bunker in pvp! or at least being incredibly tanky and hard to kill.
I already love playing Soldier Warrior with hammer & healing shouts, I hardly die and I still do a decent amount of damage. I also enjoy playing as a Guardian or a Necromancer for the same reason, but I have not played anything else in PvE, WvW or PvP besides Thief.

I know that a stealth Thief can be really tricky to kill and very annoying in PvP but I don’t find them as good in PvE.

So I’m wondering if there are any builds for Elementalist, Engineer, Mesmer or Ranger that focus on having really high survivability in either PvE, WvW or PvP.

Get rid of 'Trophy' items

The gray drops that have no use but can be sold to a vendor. The ones that give you, uh, next to nothing in copper when you click ‘Sell Junk’ with a vendor up. GET RID OF THEM.

I have a tendency to just double tap F over a dead mob and move on while I’m levelling. Problem is when you do that and gray trash sneaks its way into your inventory, taking up a slot that could be used for something much more useful.

I don’t want to take the time to sit and do a clicky clicky to pick up useful drops and avoid trash, so you may as well just remove trophy trash from the game. It has no use, nobody wants it trashing up their inventory space and it poses a bloody annoyance to players.

Give it a purpose in the game (other than giving you next to nothing in copper coins when sold to a vendor) or remove it.

Cheers.

Improvements for the Trading Post

It would be much more convenient for me if I could narrow my searches down a little more.

There is no light/medium/heavy option, which ANet obviously overlooked.

It would be cool if there was an option for us to choose gear with specific stat types and it actually tell us what stats a certain stat type adds in a dropdown menu.

For example I want to search for all things ‘Rampager’ in the trading post, there should be a dropdown menu for me to click something like this:

Rampager (Power/Precision/Condition Damage)

If there’s a dropdown menu with each option displayed like this I know exactly what stats I want and I know exactly what I can stack immediately.

Also it would be cool to be able to search for specific gems or marks/seals whatever and at a specific level. For example let’s say I want a level 50 gem with vitality there’d be a dropdown menu available with an option such as ‘Shards – level 50’ and then to be even more specific, for what I’m looking for, dropdown menu with gem color options for example I want a shard gem with vitality we’re going to choose from dropdown menus until our search is narrowed to

Upgrade Components > Gems > Shards – Level 50 > Blue

I don’t exactly know how it’d play out but it’s a practical idea which will make the trading post much easier to use for the player. Interface means alot to players in MMOs, look no further than FFXIV, who turned their back on the interface.

No more NPCs pretending to talk

If all the NPCs were actually talking with voices it would clutter your headphones. The silent talking animation in MMOs is used to create atmosphere more than anything else.

Yes the game would be cool with some form of open world pvp but guild vs guild probably won’t happen and some sort of ‘pvp’ mode probably won’t happen either, but if ANet was to add some way of doing pvp in the beautiful open world it would be nice.

Housing?

It would have to be instanced, but it would be nice to have an instance which I can decorate with items bought from NPCs and such, but probably will never happen. Only simple and straightforward suggestions get anywhere. I think this game will have stuff like duels, improved TP, player inspection and a dungeon finder, something cheap and practical, not a big content update such as housing. Still a nice idea if anything.

I like your way of thinking, but this is just too complex. All we can do is wait until ANet implements a bot detector similar to what WoW has. In WoW there is next to no goldspam (although I play EU WoW) because they have a bot detector thingy, some sort of ‘warden’ thing which autodetects any bots and destroys them, show no mercy!

I agree with you completely. There’s not enough players around at times who want to do dungeons. 2 or 3 people who want to do HOTW explore is not enough. I need 5.

If I send an item to someone and they don’t give me the money, yes I can report them and they’ll be banned for 3 days but I don’t think ANet is going to compensate me. They have better things to be doing.

I agree with you.

The Dungeon Finder

It’s a simple feature that I think ANet overlooked.

Sometimes on one server, especially as guesting won’t be in yet, there are not enough people in Map 1, where you want to do your dungeon, and Map 2 on your server may be packed. On another server, Map 1 may be packed and Map 2 will be empty.

What I mean is it’s really not cool if saying LFG (Insert dungeon here) EXPLORE in an empty map since there’s nobody around to see it.

There’s a certain number of players in a map, most of them are people still levelling up, a minority want to do a dungeon and a minority within this minority wants to do explore mode for example.

It would be very convenient and less time consuming to click a few buttons for a cross-realm group to a specific dungeon. Even with guesting, the map chat is still realm-based or overflow and there’s not enough players around to care. The game had a successful launch but still does not have any realms with like 40,000 players like we have in WoW, and you can invite people to a group crossrealm in this game but map chat is not crossrealm and if it was you would never get a message through since it would be flooded up by all the other players which is why, even though this game doesn’t have many dungeons, GW2 needs a dungeon finder anyway.

Do we agree?

Game seriously needs dungeon finder. At one time there may be more people who want to do SE on JQ than HoD for example and spamming LFG SE EXPLORE in an empty map in HoD is pointless.

How many runs it take to get a full dungeon set?

in Players Helping Players

Hurhurrderp.2513

For example how many times would it take for me to run HOTW for a full dungeon set?
The point is dungeons in this game seem much harder than most of the MMOs I’ve played. When I tried doing CM some of the silver mobs were 1 or 2 shotting us in explore mode and the dungeon may have been bugged.

At the part where you place powder kegs at the gate, the mobs there respawn without end. For every one mob we killed another spawns and kept putting the kegs back, and there was more than 10 of them picking kegs and instaspawning vs 5 of us. Is it a bug or is there a serious way around this? we were at this maybe for over an hour.

From what I see in GW2 the explore dungeons are supposed to be very difficult but very rewarding but I am a little worried it may be neither.
