Hey guys, same as last week, we’ll try to have a Fight Club at 5pm server time (3 hours from now). If you can come, please do! I haven’t had any duels for a decent while, but I’ll be there. Also, I’m a bit sick, so when I inevitably do something stupid, you’ll get to laugh at least
Moving on..
GoM’s definitely going to move up in the teirs now for sure! We were the first server to develop landsharks as of a few weeks ago, and now we’re moving on to greater things. I present to you GoM’s new X-Ray vision. We know when you are sleeping; we know when you’re awake. We know if you’ve been bad or good, so be good for this forum’s sake! Also, a quote from the astute developers behind this technology:
“All your base are belong to us.”
That strange moment you find your self being targeted in the 2nd picture….. O_O

I’m sure there are thousands of threads on this already, but I want to throw my hat into the ring.
I never really post threads of doom and gloom about an upcoming patch, because I feel like people in general tend to overreact, and for the most part it all works itself out in the long run.
However, I have to say that after reading the blog post about leagues I’m feeling very down about WvW and this game in general at this point, and here’s why.
I spend a vast majority of my playing time in WvW. It’s what I find fun in GW2 and roaming in groups with my guildmates or solo is always my favorite activity. We play on a lower tier server (Gates of Madness) so we’ve had our ups and downs, and we’ve always been sort of an underdog server, which we like. Until recently we had actually built up a pretty decent group of dedicated players that were helping us improve and move up the rankings.
Leagues have already destroyed that progress, as all but ourselves and maybe 1-2 other WvW guilds have left.
With that said, here are my concerns about the new system.
1) Getting rolled every week is incredibly frustrating and could easily take the fun out of the game completely. I’m all for underdogs and I love the thought of pulling GoM out of the ashes, but the fact is everyone will be on 1-2 servers and we’ll get destroyed. This will be the case for a lot of lower tier servers, and it will only encourage even more top heavy servers.
2) Even if we DID want to transfer to a server with a shot, it would just turn into a massive zerg fest 24/7, which is also no fun.
3) This greatly encourages PvE players with no investment in WvW to not only transfer, but get rewards for doing NOTHING! We don’t get rewards if we don’t participate in Living Story content, nor do we get PvP rewards if we don’t play in tournaments. Why should everyone else get the rewards that we fight for day in and day out without lifting a finger?
4) This is probably my biggest concern. A quote from the GW2 blog post: “To further incentivize spending your points we will not be introducing any new ability lines during the season, nor shall we be making any other changes to WvW, with the exception of bug fixes, until the season concludes”
This means we’ll get no improvements to WvW at all and be stuck with a pretty stale game mode for a long period of time. I’ve tried to defend ANet before when people claimed that WvW was the bottom of the barrel in terms of their priorities, but this change makes it pretty clear to me that they aren’t really interested in what our player base wants.
I’m really scared that this change will make me want to stop playing the game altogether, and I’m pretty sure there are a LOT of other players that will do the same.
This guy speaks the truth! I’m quite sad to see Devona’s Rest moral drop terribly low due to the fact that are WvW population averages about 15—30 people after the reset. And with the new league system; that’s just a bullet to the heart.

Leagues mean basically nothing. Nothing has really changed.
You missed the part where highly unpopulated WvW servers such as Avnvil Rock and Devona’s Rest will potentially be placed against moderately-highly active WvW community’s. And when that happens, well everyone’s moral is nada, and no one wants to WvW anymore.

This is incentive for high-skilled guilds to actually form up and get involved. It’s even more incentive for them to server hop to the bottom tier just to push the server to T1 and then repeat.
Too much time makes those that group up not care too much as their efforts aren’t rewarded enough.
One of the worst idea I ever read. Just ask HoD, ET, AR or any of the server who lost their major guilds how much they enjoy the free fall before the ratings correct itself. Of course, those guilds doesn’t care as the ill effect of their actions doesn’t affect them.
LELELEL Devona’s Rest #1

Hi ANET, I wanted to caution you about this league system. I know you’ve already gotten a fair bit of commentary good and bad about this league system. Here is why this system will fail. I will keep the QQ and Raging out of it so this is an informative post from a player on the server Strombluff Isle.
1) Had you revealed this league system the day it was enacted, perhaps it would be more effective. Since you have warned people that their day 1 server will equal their ending reward, you should realize that this has instilled panic in the servers who are very unlikely to win their league. Their guilds are not thinking “hmm how can we recruit people to this server, they are thinking, hmm where can we go to get good rewards and how fast can we leave?”
2) Building off point #1, people will be forging mass Exodus from their old servers into new servers likely to receive rewards when the system is released. This will probably be repeated every time a new league match is set up. Guilds will flock to servers likely to get rewards, and as a result the 13-15 ranked servers could be flooded with transfers and in reality be much stronger than half the servers in the top bracket. This has already happened on SBI. Half of the Devona’s Rest guilds have come to SBI (We of course welcomed them), but the players on DR are probably panicing and considering a server transfer now. That server has no chance of receiving rewards and is likely going to die.
3) The resulting exodus every time league matches are about to start will of course kill all community ties guilds have developed with other guilds in their community. People will flock to trendy servers and communities that had been in place since day 1 will be destroyed. These exoduses have already been happening since the launch of the game, but when they are incentivized by rewards, they will happen much more often.
4) The end of the community ties will end up diminishing people’s interest in the game. You can keep adding trinkets, rewards, shiny things, and reasons for people to stay, but the social aspect of WvW on servers will be destroyed. People who don’t usually play WvW will come on demanding the capture of certain towers, or god forbid killing the grub for achievement points, and happily afk while the people interested in playing in WvW do so.
5) This will start bickering even within servers between PvE oriented players and WvW oriented players. I know you want people to play all aspects of the game and deny there is such a thing as a PvE or a WvW oriented player, but this will happen. WvW players will get sick of PvE players ineptitude at the game, and since they will likely be fresh transfers, will feel no reason to spend time training the PUGs. This will add to server drama, and contribute to community implosions.
6) The end game is communities will die, players will lose interest, and the social aspect of GW2 will be totally crap and nobody will want to play it. The rewards won’t force servers to work together, they will drive them apart when people aren’t winning. I’ve played enough MMOs to know that people are a lot quicker to start playing the blame game when things are tough than they are to rally and fix the problem. You might hope for the best case scenario, but it will never happen. Server instability will only be settled down when people leave the game entirely.
7/Conclusion) I know Anet may think this is a great idea for their bottom lines as the server transfers will increase gem sales, but it isn’t worth it. You are throwing away the long term revenue by cornering people into the options of staying with a divided community, or move to an unknown winning community. This is a game, you can’t count on people to stick it out, they will find somewhere with less drama and instability, and perhaps most importantly a community they can depend on for more than the next 7 weeks. I would imagine that somewhere won’t be a new server in GW2, it will be a different game.
Sorry for the length of this post, thanks everyone for reading and commenting and hopefully we get a response from Devon.
This post really speaks the truth and currently applies to Devona’s Rest. Currently our active WvW community averages about 15-30 people across all borderlands (does not include the weekly zerg rush loot and bail day on reset), and with the upcoming league system possibly matching Devona’s Rest against extremely unwinnable odds, I fear that it will just end WvW in Devona’s Rest for good.

why we wont see a useful outnumbered buff:
scenario — player enters map where his server has outnumbered. server loses outnumbered. other players harass him to leave so server can be stronger.
Correct. The idea behind the buff is to incentivize you to show up even if you are outnumbered by pulling out some of the disincentive for losing a lot, but if we put anything too good on it, it will cause serious problems between players. We don’t want it to be something that people fight over, harass each other over, or generally cause a worse play experience because someone takes away the buff because it is our goal for the maps to be full and for no one to have the buff.
in the bottom of the ratings, it is typical for all 3 servers to have outnumbered on (at least) 2 of the 4 maps at all times. the looming threat of season 1 and the “omg pick your server!” mentality/hype has done and will do nothing to change this. if it is your goal to fill our maps, you need to step in and provide different incentives to encourage players not to just stack certain servers as has happened for the last year and will continue to happen through season 1.
as for outnumbered, i dont like it. it feels bad. but i understand it. and i think you could probably do better, but i think its a low priority compared to other things like ridiculous population imbalances, glitches, sabotage, and defense rewards vs attack rewards.
This guy has a strong point. I’m currently on Devona’s Rest 24th place on the WvW leader boards, and it appears to me that a majority of people only help out in WvW during the occasional, “guild zerg rush day”, where everyone just pitches in for the xp and loot for attacking, then leaves because you earn all most nothing for defending. How you obtain siege and upgrades should be changed since 8th tier servers in WvW barely have enough people to fill up their own Borderlands. And with the upcoming, “tourney”, I see Devona’s Rest WvW super tiny community being demolished to the point where there is no reason to help out extremely overwhelming odds. This is more of a last shout out for the current active WvW community of Devona’s Rest (Which is like 15-30 people across all maps) before we get demolished.

This new league system is going to destroy Devona’s Rest WvW permanently. Moral about to drop beyond zero Q_Q

A simple solution for this is to click on the commander you want to follow and select, “Join Squad”. A function highly underused, but very useful, as it blocks out all other commander tags, and provides a commander with his/her own squad chat where they can speak freely.
As for the proposed solution. That’s just an awful idea due to the fact that Anet would potentially stealing money from players due to the currency system that lets you trade gems for gold.

This weeks, Devona’s Rest is currently matched up against FC and AR. And after spending a weekend of all most non-stop commanding, it’s pretty clear that Anvil Rock, and Ferguson’s Crossing can now easily step all over us. I’m not asking for our sever to demolish it’s way to higher tiers. I only ask that for the upcoming tournament, we have a more formidable force to deal with then just a few occasional zergs taking back the same things repeatedly for a week. I think I speak for everyone who has been with Devona’s Rest since day 1. Please feel free to correct my statement if you feel i’m wrong, I will listen. I also want to add that I do not seek to be, “victorious” over our current match up, I believe FC and AR are in need of people to!

We are from FA and are getting tired of the zergs in the upper servers, and I know it will only get worse in weeks to come because of the new wvw map changes and league system. And I know we cant get away from zergs completely, but we are looking for a server that has less of it and more small group fighting. Does that even exist any more? If anyone has any suggestions of where to go Id love to hear them. We are hoping to move to a mid to low tier server in the “silver league” in hopes that that would mean less super zergs.
Thanks
If you are looking for PURE small group fighting, any 8th Tier sever works, Furgeson’s Crossing, Devona’s Rest, and Anvil Rock. About 75% of the fighting that happens is usually between a small party of friends looking to steal camps, and fliping towers. The other 20% is the actual WvW, where large groups of people just fight it out, but that’s usually only when reset happens. After that it’s just all dirty guerrilla warfare.

In a few short weeks we will be consistently fighting servers like SBI, Kaineng, IoJ. I think we all know that for us those matches will not resemble the WvW that we know and love. Nothing against those servers but we all know the nature of the beast.
In very recent history, lower pop servers have been falling one by one. First AR, then DR, then GoM, and now I am hearing talk of a few other servers being at risk of a similar fate.
Those of us loyalists that are left have my utmost respect and appreciation… That being said we have not faced a challenge like that which lies in October. We are being forced to make a choice; stay divided and get rolled over in the name of loyalty (at least we’ll have a valid reason to QQ), or unite and stand courageously together against the injustice of the system!
Of the low pop servers FC has the strongest backbone, made up of players and guilds that have proven their loyalty by sticking with the server during the 7 months from Jan-July where we only won TWICE. Now we’ve won 3 out of the last 4 weeks. We don’t have “fair-weathers,” we have soldiers. We are starting to create a buzz, converting PvE’ers to WvW addicts, and my last recruitment thread netted several in game messages from higher tier players and guilds interested in possibly transferring to FC. I believe with our current momentum we are in the best position to facilitate the “alliance” I speak of.
I wish our options were not so limited or drastic – I would be thrilled if we could keep re-matching our current battle! I would be even more thrilled if Anet at least put a band-aid on the population imbalance before implementing seasons under the make-believe idea that WvW is competitive in its current state, but such hopes are merely silly wishful thinking and reality is king.
So, the TL;DR is if anyone is interested in choosing the “united we stand” approach to season 1 as opposed to the “divided we fall” (in other words those who prefer a fighting chance over a reason to QQ) please reach out to discuss!
I have been on Devona’s Rest from day 1. As I remembered it back in the first few weeks I started playing, we were the underdogs being placed at the bottom, but managed to pull our selves together, and bring ourselves up to 5th tier. But with school becoming a problem and other personal reasons, I took about a 3-5 month break from playing Guild Wars 2. After finally returning a couple of weeks ago, I was sadly greeted to a devastated WvW community. Seeing this happen was quite devastating to me, and decided to take up commanding DR forces, and after a a few weeks of doing so, I have been able to understand better the sever population problem with WvW. Seeing as a WvW tournament is coming up, I can only morn over the fact that this tournament will potentially ruin our entire WvW community, since most people will stray from WvW for good after realizing that there is potentially, “no point”, into playing WvW due to us being stomped purely by overwhelming numbers repeatedly.
I won’t ask for a band aid for our sever as it will potentially create more problems, but I will one day hope that the population deficiency for DR WvW will be resolved, and that more people will find the great fun in WvW even if we are outnumbered around the clock.
