How often do you weapon swap, and does it help your play style?

Are you talking about PvE or sPvP? I would think there is less swapping in PvE (Dungeons might be a different issue).

On my thief I don’t swap as often, I use the short bow when I’m moving around the map, but once I get to an event or a heart I generally stick to my S/P unless it’s a group event in which case I’ll switch for the combo fields and finishers.

On my mesmer though, I am constantly changing between the GS and S/P while leveling because you need to if you want to kill things fast. It’s actually way more fun to swap and use all your skills. It might also be because mesmers are weaker then thieves when leveling (I hear mesmers get awesome at 40, but im still 35). It feels really dynamic to use GS to get the phantasam up, use the toss to get an illusion up, switch to s/p get the phantasmal duelist out, use the gap closer then go into blade flurry and if the health of the mob is low shatter. It feels very dynamic and fun. Especially when soloing veterans or champions.

In sPvP I don’t have rotation, but I’m swapping weapons based on sigils and what’s needed in the team fights. If you want to learn how to weapon swap at the right times, I highly suggest sPvP, it will give you a much better understanding of your profession and you’ll also be much faster at playing. You’ll also dominate in WvW if you ever encounter a 1v1 fight (unless the other person is just as good).

My favorite thing to do in WvW is to do what Ras Al Ghul says in Batman begins," you know how to fight 5 men, I can teach you to engage 50". I will purposely kitten off a large zerg then using shadow steps, shortbow steps etc., I’ll just keep them running after me for a couple of minutes till they get bored.

Does GW2 have the content to keep a large player base?

I honestly don’t understand these threads, I’m rarely on the forums so forgive me for my ignorance, but there is just so much to do in the game that I don’t think I’ll finish even half of what’s available by the time the next expansion comes out (Let’s not even talk about the regular free content upgrades that ANet promised).

I heard of the game just before pre-release and since I had a couple of days off I bought it since I heard good things about it. I have a level 65 thief and a level 35 mesmer (I saw previews and these two looked cool), I WvW with a guild I met online (I don’t think any of my old WoW friends play, haven’t really been in touch with them in awhile, plus I think they are all playing MOP) and I also sPvP with the guild (great bunch, if you’re on Fort Aspenwood and you are a fun person who plays to relax, hit me up)

When I logon, I join mumble instantly and it’s usually just us chatting on mumble while I level for a bit or explore or craft, when someone suggests WvW or sPvP at which point we group up and go do those. We’ve done one dungeon so far (Cadecus Manor) and I hated it, so I don’t want to do those anymore.

At some point we all get tired or need to go to bed and we leave.

This game will keep me engaged or playing on and off for years to come. It’s been amazing and I have very few complaints (Except in sPvP and some bugged skill points). If a skill point is bugged, I move on and when I login the next day it’s usually fixed, if not I skip it and do it later.

WoW always felt like I needed to progress to justify the $15 a month, if I wasn’t getting new gear or leveling fast I felt bad because it was like I was wasting time. Everything about WoW is a grind, even the crafting felt like it was just reading a guide and buying or farming massive amounts of mats to level. With this game I will level my character for a bit and after about 5-10 levels I’ll go to the crafting station and use all my mats to get the crafting up.

I think the problem is people look at it as a stereotypical MMO instead of what it actually is, a game where you group with friends and do what you feel like, the levels and gear actually don’t matter much and once you accept that you’ll forget about WoW and understand why this is such a great game.

It’s weird being on the other side of the argument. I used to play an Elemental Shaman in WoW and there was nothing more frustrating then a Rogue, since you had absolutely no disables or stun breaks (except for the trinket). It didn’t matter in 5v5 or 3v3 as much, but man was it frustrating. Once I finally played a Rogue though, I realized how much of a pain in the kitten it actually was since you have to get in very close to do damage and if you get caught you’re dead and if you don’t kill someone quickly, or atleast get them panicking, they can just turn around and kill you.

Although I will agree that the basilisk backstab build is a little ridiculous, I doubt it would work in anything except hotjoin, seems like you can instantly take out one person, but after that you’re pretty much just mediocre damage.

I wish I could play my thief more often in tPvP but sadly they aren’t as great as the other professions and with the current meta, it’s tough to justify one.

Game is dying, so what are you doing to fix the only content you have?

I bought GW2 specifically because it wasn’t WoW, as have many of the people who are currently enjoying the game.

Your ideas suck and I hope to god ANet ignores you. “Gear” in this game is cosmetic, it doesn’t mean anything. You technically already have a rating, since your glory rank determines when you can access vendors who sell higher and higher chests that have better chances of getting you the “higher” tier cosmetic items.

Calling it higher is stupid because I checked the previews of the gear and I like some of the lower ones compared to the higher ones.

Here’s what you can do, quit playing for 5 months, play WoW and come back and see if you like the game. Cause the great thing is you don’t pay a subscription so you can always come back and play if you’re bored and you think the game has improved.

I think thieves are OP in sPvP

D/D is insane in hotjoin cause for some reason people are fine with not evading thief attacks and then letting them run away.

In a 5v5 tPvP though, if you try D/D, you are so useless it’s not even funny.

A HS nerf isn’t necessarily a bad idea, but it has to be done right. For a proper D/D thief it’s a great finisher, it just works for spammers right now which sucks.

Thief archetype chars have always been considered OP in every MMO I’ve played, simply because a beginner doesn’t understand how to deal with them. Their stealth based abilitieskitten people off, plus they tend to be bursty and also have stunners.

When I played a shaman in WoW, I hated Rogues, theykitten me off to no end and I always thought they were an OP class. However after understanding the game better and eventually rolling a Rogue, I realized how much they actually needed their abilities. A Rogue will always kill you 1v1, that’s what they are designed to do. A super glass cannon thief should also be able to kill you 1v1. But a thief who specs with survivability and CD will not kill you very quickly in a 1v1 but they will whittle you down and keep you busy in a 2v1 situation. They may not kill you, but they can keep you occupied long enough. If a glass cannon thief tries to take you on 2v1, he’s dead instantly. If a thief bursts down your friend and he’s glass cannon, simply interrupt his stomp, then revive your friend. He won’t have the initiative or the coolddowns to burst you down too and he’s in a terrible position all of a sudden. His only option is to run away and keep trying the same thing.
