A level 28 might have a rough time in WvW. They did nerf xp in WvW, but I’m told EoTM is still a decent option for leveling. If you’re getting wrecked, do you mean 1v1? You have a few disadvantages on an uplevel. You don’t have all of your traits and your equipment usually only has 2 stat options. I really don’t think it’s a good idea to jump in to WvW until level 60, but that really is dependent on each individual player.

Map exploration is a good way to level; it really helped me learn how to use my stealth and evades in sticky situations. Once you hit 35, run AC paths daily. If you’re feeling squishy, you might just want to stick to starting areas for a bit until you get used to using your stealth and evades. Shadow refuge helped me with a few of the harder skill points early on (you know, that annoying thing thieves do to reset and heal up :p). What stats are on your gear? That could make a difference in some areas.

A third temporary option is the Halloween labyrinth. It upscales you to 80 and if there’s a group you can just hang back using SB.

I’m up to 32 right now, been rather busy at work to be able to play. I’m using “strong” gear right now with a mix of runes that give power mainly. I main rogue in WoW so I’m used to being able to stealth all day until I’m ready to attack so thief seems to be a way different approach stealth wise. As far as my skill’s I’m using I have SoM, SS, Caltrops, SoA and mistfire wolf for my elite.

It just seems like I can’t dodge enough of the attacks and in the end always get shellacked from it. I guess I just need to play more and get used to the stealths like you said.

I’ve been focusing on my thief, got him up to 28 so far, however he feels extremely squishy in PVE leveling as well as WvW. The WvW I expect as the gear from a true 80 to a boosted is not in the same ballpark. I upgrade my gear about every 5 levels and have tried multiple weapon combos (S/D,D/D,P/D) and none of them seem to be above average to me. I’m currently running DD/SB as my weapons and in WvW I just get wrecked and deal minimal damage so I basically am just beating my head against a wall. I have been told WvW is a decent way to level by just sticking with the zerg and flipping camps but it still feels slow as does the normal PVE.

Is there any way to actually feel useful on the thief or is having traits the only real way of that?

I haven’t played gw2 since closed beta, so needless to say i’m relearning the game.

I made a engineer and I read that they get a turret at level 5. However I’m level 10 now and I have yet to get a turret skill. Am I missing something or what?
