Lots of really good advice, it has opened my eyes, I was expecting something roughly along the lines of existing MMORPGs but this game clearly is more about exploration (wasn’t that a thing in the original Guild Wars? I seem to remember “scraping” maps to eventually earn some world explorer achievement or similar!)

I will check out the recommended links and try other starter areas too (I was worried about low or no XP but again this appears to be different to other MMOs).

My only concern is, as a huge altoholic on WoW, I will likely only want to level 1 character since once the starter areas have been exhausted, will I want to come back again and again? However, since the game is a one-time payment it is hardly fair to begrudge this.

Thanks again, I will try to dive in again soon and see where I end up.

Hello all.

I am really struggling to get into the game at all. I am a previous player of GW1 and, despite the very “bitty” set up of GW1 and GW2, did manage to enjoy parts of it (I am used to a world without load times and portals etc. thanks to WoW)

I have a number of issues, not least of which is the appallingly clunky and sluggish control system, made worse by the fact that the game seems to rely on moving around quickly to avoid attacks etc. WoW is slick as you like, just like a FPS game. Is there ANY way around these horrible controls?

Another issue is frankly having no idea where to go or what to do in the game – I am currently level 8, almost entirely by doing those “heart” quests, much like a “kill xx of that” quest in WoW and just as dull. Is this really how you level? I did the green story quest, but soon got to the point where 3 level 10s were hitting me and killing me. 2-3 level 8 mobs in the quest areas will kill me too and, while I can take a few deaths, I am just dying all the time, barring killing level 3 heart mobs.

There must be more to the game than this, surely? I tried entering WvW but have absolutely no idea what the heck it is all about after running around and, again, dying a lot.

Would love some constructive feedback so I can at least try to get back into things, but frankly I dropped back to WoW and breathed a sigh of relief. It is such a fluid, beautiful (well some parts!) and responsive game. GW2 feels like a fun school project built on a very dated engine.
