Why we hear nothing but Silence from ANet?

I wish the dev team was as down to earth in terms of communication as some indie games. For instance, Day Z developers such as Dean “Rocket” Hall post on Reddit, and twitter frequently on a daily basis. I’ve never seen such raw interaction with the community, it’ a shame that Arenanet has to keep everything under lock and key in terms of information. This method of communication is outdated and extremely stale, it really needs to become more transparent.

Zoija's is now worthless..

I’ve struggled over a few weeks to put together three pieces of ascended armor so far, and I chose to go with Zoija’s as that is the equivalent for berserker for my warrior. This was pre patch… So now I find out that my weeks of farming are worthless, as people are saying berserker spec armor is effectively nerfed. Is this true? Are my pieces of armor now worthless?

Feature Update - Missed what's really needed.

When I heard of a “feature” update I got excited. I thought… finally they are going to address the most needed features in the game. The ones people have suggested and complained about not having for almost two years since the first Beta Weekend event.

And you dropped the ball Anet.

Are the new features nice? Sure… some of the features are things that will enhance GW2 overall. Things like “last logged” in guild feature and “account bound WXP” are things I’ve seen requested for a long time. All the rest is basically Fluff content and I have a hard time actually seeing many requests for those features over the last two years.

What I can’t understand is how one of the most basic and requested features was ignored. That being “The basic ability to organize and group the way players and guilds enjoy.” Gw2 gives us a grand total of TWO ways to organize and group. Either a 5 person group or a massive zerg with no control over the size or makeup of that force. WvW is where this needs changed most, but it would be useful for PvE events as well. Gw2 currently has the worst grouping system I’ve used in at least the last 7 years of MMO gaming.

Since the first BWE players have asked for better grouping systems. After 19 months of asking they created a Collaborative thread asking for extensive feedback from players about the Commander and Squad system.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Collaborative-Development-Commander-System/first

Players gave tons of feedback and some of the most requested features were having Private and Guild only squads to allow players to organize and form forces the way they enjoy. So you can see why 4 months later when they announced a “feature” update I expected to see some C&S and grouping updates. I was very disappointed. Like many other players I find social grouping and running with my guild as an important part of MMO gaming. Something I’ve been frustrated with on a daily basis because of the lack of tools to do so.

I’m sure you have “plans” to address this at a future date Anet. But it’s your lack of priority on what players would like vs what generates gemstore revenue that’s most disappointing.

Although I don’t really mind the way parties are formed at the current moment, I do agree with you that the update is a bit disappointing. Most of the features are really superficial more than anything, they could have been tacked on at any point in time. The only semi-significant thing is their new “megaserver” system, but even then that’s a bit of a stretch. I was really hoping that Anet would enhance the already existent game play, improve combat, visuals, add new significant game play elements, add more content, etc with this update.I haven’t played the game for a month or so already and this update has absolutely no incentive for me to return.

I’m sorry but how is the new update anything but superficial? It does absolutely nothing to improve upon the exist game play, it adds nothing substantial. Granted it’s called a “feature” patch, but the features it contains are something Arenanet could have easily built in with the LS updates, or even standalone separate updates.

Positive changes.

I am really disappointed by what I’ve seen revealed thus far. These changes seem to be superficial more than anything. Everything they’ve revealed could have easily been added in a regular monthly, or bi-weekly update. I was really hoping this update was going to have additions and expansion to the already existing core gameplay, not a wardrobe for my skins. There is nothing in this update that will add to or improve the already existing gameplay. Granted I haven’t yet seen what the other features are, but I really doubt that they are anything significant. I am really starting to lose hope for this game… Arenanet you have a great foundation and concept with Guild Wars 2, please start building on it.

Magicfind % are Meaningless (2nd try)

What I noticed with my magic find is that whenever I did the Lions Arch event I would get basically all blues, unless I used buffs to get the MF up to around 100%. At that point whenever something dropped, it would usually be green, eventually I even got an exotic dropped in LA after killing a veteran (this happened after my MF got even higher) which I don’t think has happened yet from a mob drop for me since I hit 80.

Could there be a PVP server in the future ?

I really hope they add at least one or two servers in the future with real open world PVP, this won’t hurt anyone. The code is already there with WvW, you would just add contested territories. Unfortunately the majority of the GW2 community is categorically against open world PVP, for whatever reason, even though every other MMO has it. PVE on its own is just… uneventful.

Worth playing again?

Hmm… GW2 grindier than WoW? I have dabled in WoW here and there, I tried the trial a while back but I never got into it. Recently I got back into GW2 after not playing since Oct of 2012. I also recently bought WoW and Mists of Pandaria to try it out and see how the game has progressed. Let’s have a look at my quest list in WoW. Every single quest is exactly the same. I have about 20 quests in my quest tracker and every one is a variation of this: 0/10 torn murloc fins collected, and 0/5 young bears killed. Oh and for every grindy quest you finish you pick up about 3 more. Not to mention how terrible and boring the combat is. Come over and stand next to an enemy while your character swings his sword every ten seconds, here and there you will get a parry message. How awesome!

GW1 was the worst game i ever played. Bought it just to get HoM achis and i was prepared for crappy graphics, but was definatelly not prepared for a game wholly designed to be a major pain in the backside.
-Having to switch builds with nearly every map, why on earth would i want to do it all the time? I find good build i want to play it end of story.
-Extremely small inventory. With all the trash that drops that suddenly turns out to be usefull when you find some npc vendor who trades for it. Seems you need to carry everything you loot with you for such npc vendors yet there is no room for it.
-Grouping… major pain in the backside. Use fast travel and group is gone.
-Exploring, yeah forget it, millions of enemies everywhere that cant be skiped, succesfully kill any will to do that.
-Lvl cap of 20 yet you end up fighting lvl 30 npcs all the time.
-escort missions with 0 control over npcs you escort.
-Lack of trading post, as new player buying anything or finding out if the offer is right and not overpriced is impossible.
-No alt-tabing support. Well you can alt tab if you like to watch npcs teleport all over the map.
-Always stuck in party, can never do anything on your own, you will always have a group which you will always have to micromanage to get anything done.
-micromanaging, micromanaging, micromanaging, micromanaging, all the time, everything.

I’m glad i did not play GW1 before playing GW2, would definatelly not give GW2 a chance if i did.

Yes. Thank you. I thought I was the only one. I did play GW1 before GW2, and I honestly hated everything about GW2 after GW1 until I tried the beta. I completely did a 180.

I’ve stumped and cheered for GW2 forever. All the ideas sounded innovative on paper.

Now maybe I’ve got rose-colored glasses on but I realize GW1 was superior at a lot of things.

1. Why Groups Were Better In GW1

So you had to wait around LF monk in Guild Wars 1. Yep, I was there, I complained about how stupid it was to take 20 minutes to get a monk in GW1. Here’s the reality though, it was an inconvenience, but one that ALLOWED for the group to actually work together once they went into action. I’m not saying group play was hugely dynamic or anything. You did play your static roles and it could be repetitive.

What it was was something real however. When the group succeeded or failed, boy did you feel that.

In GW2 there’s no connection to anything. Even when they try to get us to coordinate for world events, it doesn’t feel much different that herding sheep to a spot. Nobody knows what’s going on in terms of success of failure. It all seems to be happening outside of us, in a dream, while way too many particle effects contribute to the haze of “what exactly is any of this?”

I miss groups that are playing “the mission” or UW or DoA. Back then we weren’t people trying to follow a Dulfy guide, but figured it out together. (Or sometimes failed pretty badly.) It used to be in Guild Wars that any intrepid group of adventurers with a decent use of our skills could make it through all sorts of devious opponents. And, though ranging from mild challenges to extreme ones, it was usually pretty engaging gameplay.

2. Expansions Are Awesome

I’m getting pretty jaded by the GW2 pay model. They’re making lots of money off the store, but the content we are getting is actually very very basic in the gameplay department. I honestly can’t pimp this stuff to people who don’t play. “Ok guys so with this new Lion’s Arch content what you do is basically just run around spamming your bar.” They’ll wonder if I’m crazy and why I play.

We need a revolution for this revolutionary game. We need an expansion that makes grouping real again, and brings a new continent’s worth full of amazing adventures.

In a word, no. Now I realize many people do like GW1 but me personally when I hear or see GW1 mentioned I am reminded of my early teen years when I saved up 50 dollars to buy an “MMO”. After buying the game I was severely disappointed by the it in every sense of the word, I was expecting a real open world MMO without paying the $15 montly subscription fee(granted GW1 wasn’t technically advertised as an MMO, but it was directly compared to WoW, and it was one of the only alternatives to it on the market at the time). I ended up playing the game regardless because I didn’t want my $50 to go to waste so eventually I got to level 20 and sold my account. I hated every second of it. Why was I disappointed by this game? Multiple reasons:

-The fact that you you can venture out of a city with only eight people, otherwise you roam around absolutely alone except when you are in a city. Made the world feel dull and lifeless.

-Extremely linear quests, and story.

-The fact that you couldn’t jump (Yes I know this isn’t a “real” reason).

-No sense of exploration, wonder, or hidden secrets.

-The static look and feel of the world, absolutely no interactivity with the environment around.

-Many more reasons I can’t recall.

After playing GW1 I had an extremely bad taste in my mouth I literally hated the franchise, and when I heard about GW2 I was extremely biased against it. Then I tried the beta, and I immediately saw that everything I hated about GW1 was improved upon. I was pleasantly surprised and ended up buying the game as soon as it came out. I am still in love with GW2, and the more I play it the more I love it. I think it is a superior game to GW1 in every single measurable aspect. Now yes I realize it is lacking a bit of content in its current state, but give it some time it has only been a little over a year. There will be an expansion, I don’t have a doubt in my mind. These things just take time, and yes it will take significantly longer to get permanent content out because GW2 is so much more complex than GW1 is. Furthermore if you all think GW1 is so far superior, then please go and play it.

GW2 by far is the superior game. This of course is my subjective opinion.

I just love how people compare GW1 a game where you couldn’t venture out of a city with more than eight people, a game that is a fraction of the complexity that its successor is to GW2 which is larger and has way more moving parts than GW1 would ever have hoped for. Then you complain why Guild Wars 2 hasn’t received the same amount content, scratch that even more content in the same period of time. This just underlines the fact that people are extremely ignorant about game development. They do not understand that the bigger and more complex a game is, the longer it takes to develop content. Guild Wars 2 has been out for just over a year, it will get massive permanent content updates, or even an expansion. Give it time, and please don’t compare this game and its content to GW1 a game that was released in 2005.

And yes Guild Wars 2, in terms of map size, is roughly the same as its predecessor. Having said the the complexity and scope, the amount of moving parts, and the detail of those areas is exponentially larger. Include that into the actual gameplay elements and Guild Wars 2 as a whole game is infinitely larger than GW1.
