Waypoints>Mounts

ah, thank you, didnt see that was there!
While many mmo’s out there now-a-days have ‘mounts’ (ridable horses, wolves, bears, etc with speed boosts and varying forms of obtainment) Guild Wars 2 has managed to climb a mountain of online games and reach quite the peak of popularity without clinging to many of the old standards. in fact, it manages to be probably my favorite mmo without ever even having a single ridable mount- Trading Post drill and Magic broom aside. That said, why would you or would you not want Anet to add mounts to the game? and should these mounts give speed boosts? why or why not?
to start us off, – While I’d absolutely love to explore the gorgeous plains of tyria whilst riding a valiant steed, I feel like mounts would be hard to implement- for the fact that they could mess up jumping puzzles since they’d have to be larger than a character’s size. that and how would players be able to obtain them comes into question.
Also, about waypoints making them useless- that’s certainly quite arguable. on one hand, why would you even NEED a mount when you can port 20 feet from just about any world event, dungeon, and city for about 4 silver at MOST?! on the other, for those who would like to be submerged in the world without a lot of interruption, waypoints can be a real drag- especially when faced with a choice of walk there for 30 minutes or cough up the 30 copper and wait for a loading screen. though that’s not any amount of coin, ill admit, and the screens last at most 30 seconds for me, id say it would be a lot more fun to get on a horse or something and ride there, even if it would only slightly cut down the travel time.
and lastly, in my opinion, the biggest reason it would be difficult to add mounts- the whole world is instanced!
your turn!
