Came back to see the changes in wvw .. only to find out it’s now called zvz (zerg v zerg) .. it’s just gotten worse imo. I’ve tried looking for small group things to do but you just end up getting rolled by some mindless zerg .. and the best strategy is to stand in a ball .. seriously, who designs this junk?
If there were more than 1 or 2 other groups to actually pvp with I could understand but most of the time in small groups all you can really do is pve a yak or some whimpy guards at a camp. by the time you get a wall down theres a big zerg ball rolling your face into the ground. Just horrible.
I’d make suggestions but the forum is littered with good suggestions that seem to be completely ignored. Here’s hoping this is an Anet problem and not a NCSoft problem. :|

I think what needs to be encouraged are methods of breaking up the zergs. Currently the wvw system greatly benefits running in massive zergs.
1. Keeps aren’t strong enough. The massive zergs can take down fully upgraded keeps within minutes. By the time you hear of the attack its already too late. They need to be beefed up considerably, doors/walls/npc guards. The ease at which a large zerg can stroll through and take everything easily contributes to said zerg forming.
2. Siege weaponry needs to hit harder. You shouldn’t be walking away from a ballista/trebuchet/catapult hit. They should make large zergs extremely wary & not trivial. Large zerg rolls up to keep and gets hit with ballista… boom 10 people insta dead.
3. Remove the cap on AOE
4. If no defenders are present the npc guards should take control of whatever seige gear is currently available not stand there useless as most npc guards currently are absolutely useless.
5. Lastly, if people want small group pvp go join spvp. This isn’t daoc. We don’t need elitist 8 man’s in WVW.
Theres putting an arrow cart at the door and being able to see through the top opening to target people inside & then there’s putting one against a keep wall and being able to target everything within which is what SOR of FEAR does everytime they’re attacking a keep. They don’t have it at the door they have it up against the wall like they did lastnight on at hills.
How does one target the inside of a keep while right up against the outer wall with a superior arrow cart ? I saw this particular guild place a superior arrow cart and was able to not only move with a target but selectively target various defensive sieges & follow players with the arrow cart. All while up against the wall.
Now I’ve went into this spot myself and my camera cannot pan above the wall, nor does moving it around at various angles permit me to target anywhere within the keep.
So how do they do it ? I’ve reported the individual & guild to anet anyways and perhaps they’ll answer me.

You can see in the screenshot the person operating the superior arrow cart is in to the left of the tower up against the rock wall. Theres no way to see into the keep from there. Yet, this indivdual was able to target all over the wall & beyond it. When I dropped some AOE on the arrow cart operator the targetting arrows followed me as I dodged off wall, and ran around until going out of range.

Actually removing the 5 cap on AoE spells would make it practically impossible to cap any bigger structure in WvW without tearing down at least 3 or 4 walls.
If AoE spell would have no limit teams could start spamming holes in their defense while standing outside LOS of the attackers.
They could improve on some skills like temporal curtain tough, in order to make it possible to split stacking parties. On the downside this would increase the strain on servers/pcs .
Good. Right now the keeps are named incorrectly. They should be called “Takes” because you can lean against them and they’ll get taken. They’re far too easy to take for attackers who can AOE the walls meanwhile defenders can’t do anything.
People stack in a ball at the gate which negates all your defenses while they can shut down the entire gate and outer walls.
Your only strategy is to exploit the system and form your own pbaoe zerg aoe ball.
Actually, removing the cap will not change it.
Instead you’ll see the groupings becoming even stronger as Warriors with Vigorous Shouts will be able to heal every member of the group.
Diminishing returns. Fixed.
They could implement a 50% wvw damage reduction for all AOE’s.
Culling will be gone. ANet made an article about it.

The strategy for quite some time in WVW has relied on exploiting this game.
Exploit you say, wtf are you talking about ?
People abuse rendering/culling which is your graphics system not working properly to win in WVW. They also abuse the limit of 5 on AOE’s by stacking up knowing that with 50 people in a ball only 5 of them will get hit by AOE’s which quickly become negated. Meanwhile they can pull you into their ball of AOE. The result everyone runs around in pbaoe zergs attempting to cull the other.
The entire strategy relies on the fact the graphic system, and 5 cap on AOE’s is broken.
Culling will be addressed with the upcoming patch. My suggestion is to remove the 5 cap limit on AOE’s. This will force people to stop stacking up forming pbaoe lag balls & spread out more. It will improve WVW.
Easy solution & it’d require Anets help.
Remove the hard cap on max. 5 people for AOE.
It would negate the current trend of running around in lag inducing zergs spamming AOE’s at enemies, at the gates of a keep etc.
