Stealth nerf on ecto drops

I highly doubt any nerf was put in place, just bad luck for you. I have only salvaged 2 rares but I got 3 ectos from them. Every couple of weeks someone makes this thread it seems.

The fact that there are multiple threads about this recently, plus many ingame convos in guild chat, LA shouts, etc. say otherwise.

Have you ever heard the phrase “the obvious answer is usually right” ?

Occam’s Razor only works if the suppositions you’re basing your “most simple” answer upon are correct as well; in this case, they don’t appear to be correct, and so the maxim does not apply.

It would be helpful to know if any/all of you had completed an achievement before the extra tiers were added.

I’m not sure exactly when I got any given one, but I do know that I had completed the creature-killing one and then had to go kill an extra 50 to re-complete it after a patch. I’m experiencing this glitch as well (not getting the achievement despite filling out everything else).

I’ve been trying to craft some jewelry for a little extra on the side. The more profitable items (nets of 150%+ over crafting costs) have been slowly and potentially deliberately lowering in price in small, layered amounts, down to the point where people seem to be “actively” selling their wares well-below break-even level.

This strikes me as odd because there is no other real use for sub-80 or even 80 rares besides making them for yourself (either for XP, use, or both) or selling them, and I’m not sure why someone would destroy that small segment of the market. I grasp the desire to multiply your stacks faster by selling lower and taking less off the top, but if an item will sell at 20-24s within a day there is no reason to drive the price to 15s or even 11.

If that isn’t direct manipulation, who would do that guilelessly? And if the answer is (as it seems to be) “the general population would,” then that’s the entire problem.

Materials and crafted items completely opposite in context of gw2 market. They are always needed, at least while someone in gw2 is crafting at all. And crafted items, can be sold only once to one character. Why anyone would need another coat of the same type and level?
Supply>>>demand, so price goes down. By 1c at a time.

Because of 5% list tax, and impossibility to change(lower) price for listed item without losing already small profit, crafting is completely useless(unprofitable).

Someone in a starter zone can still make multiple silver for every basically-insignia’d copper armor piece they sell and have a gold within an hour or two if they really wanted to in current market conditions. If you find crafting to be useless for the purposes of money-making you’re not crafting the right objects at the right times.

I’m fine with undercutting if it actually makes a remotely significant impact on your profit.
1c on a 10s item does not.
But it gets you to the front of the line, in front of people who can’t change their own price to get in front of your ludicrously insignificant difference without paying a hefty 5% fee.

That’s risk/reward in action. There’s no getting around it, even with minimum differences between prices. No formula for doing that is sustainable.

People that kill profit margins

I am just saying the ‘Net Floor’ should be ABOVE what the VENDOR PRICE is…
and that is the NEEDED formula for that to happen.

why?

Because he’s impatient for the market to stabilize. Understandably so because it can be absurdly frustrating to go throw some trash away and realize that because 3000+ economically-innovative geniuses have decided that a 35c blue should sell for 36c on the TP, you’re either going to lose 15% on it compared to vendoring it for the convenience of ditching it in the wilderness, or not sell it for weeks (months… years…).

The way around this is obviously to sell at the loss/vendor (depending on waypoint costs) and then make up your margins with smart crafting and trading on viable items, but the inability to make a straightforward sale like that can be… grating.

That said, raising the artificial floor won’t do anything in practice, so… the idea is pointless anyway.

It’s not a problem at all.

You want to sell it quickly and lose a bit of money? Undercut.

You want to delay gratification a bit but up the profits slightly? Sell over.

Balanced split? Sell at the median.

Of course you need to balance any of these choices with demand, value, and personal need, but if you can’t grasp this, you shouldn’t be anywhere near the “sell items” page.
