Am I the only one who doesn't care about minions?

I use the minions while solo leveling. IF managed effectively (i.e., staying away from anything you don’t want to kill lol) then they are “fine” I guess lol… but in group setups I run wells and ae’s and I love it!

I’ve never played GW before so when someone said that the designers did necro’s different from, say, EQ1 (yes I’m an EQ1 baby… sorry ;P lol) I imagined that necro pets would be reactive on something dieing and then raising it for a short spurt but can be a disruptive sorce of power. I imagined it working like a dot: Lots of damage in a short time and then it’s gone.

So no, I don’t mind the pets at all… I can still lots of things with or without them.

The ONLY true thing I wish GW2 would do is take off that stupid “summons a blah blah when something dies every 30 seconds…”

Talk about having to weigh your options in pvp… do I kill him/her or just suck it down to nothing and let someone else kill it as I run off? lol… OR don’t count them on the kill count for someone to get back up! Either way, I’d be happy with it.

I know I’m going to get bashed by the easy elitists (heavy sigh, don’t care)

I just wanted to say that after reading all the necro postings (and yes I’m a bit upset at the state of necros and knowing that they won’t get the fix we want is hard to take)… This entire class forum is upsetting for people to read.

I even rerolled a class or two, and let me tell you I am SO anti alt it’s not funny… I can’t run the same game through multiple levels no matter how different the classes are… Though thief was pretty fun!

I wound up going back to necro, because even though it’s a bit busted up I still love the play style (though a lot of it has been decidedly rerolled by GW). I’ve never done a necro horde of pets so that’s new (never played GW1) and would probably just prefer a single pet that I could tell to attack and back off… but nonetheless I love my class.

Viability to me is only important when we’re talking about raids. If I can’t raid because the class can’t contribute then I’m a little sad… but I contribute just fine in PvE with plenty of agro, semi decent heals, NO PETS in dungeons lol, and my brain… So broken or no… I’m here to stay even if GW2 won’t help us out.

What I wouldn’t give for a not so sad forum though lol

Want to hear the sad part for me? No. Oh… oh well ;P

I went and rerolled a Thief cause I’m mad at necros (sad face)

I went back to necro because it’s my play style… so I’m stuck with a broken play style that’s high stress and low quality of life lol… WTH YO! WTH!!!

At least my football team has Peyton Manning!!! So at least I’ve got that to look forward too lol

I didn’t think this was an elitist game? So you’re saying that Mr. Peters is saying that we have to master the class to be any good at it? So about 5% of the total necro population (before rage quits /sigh) will ever be good at it?

Doesn’t seem very sound to me for a non-elitist type of game. I came here to relax lol… I play Tera when I want to be an elitist. Jusayin…

I like to consider my minions my teenage kids…

If they go off to attack something that I haven’t even noticed (nor has noticed me) and I just run it off because I’m that aggrivated at my pets… the next time I want to fight something I feel like the conversation is as follows:

Me: Okay, let’s kill this thing and get out of here!
Pets: Why?
Me: Um… because we’ll die if we don’t. And those people need this dead. Come on!
Pets: Oh, so we kill what YOU want?
Me: Yes… I’m the master… What is your issue?
Pets: No, no it’s fine, I guess. (mob is at 20% health) We can kill what you want. Nothing I want matters…
Me: OMG just go wait in the car. I’ll be there when I’m done… last time I bring you out anywhere…

Spectral Wall’s vulnerability isn’t proccing either the vast majority if not all of the time
Last Grasp isn’t breaking stuns as Spectral Armor says it does
Greater Mark’s Staff 2 isn’t increasing it’s radius at the same rate as the other Marks do
Hemophilia and Lingering Curse don’t stack.

As for Greater Mark, Mark of Blood (staff 2) doesn’t gain radius at all though the other ones visibly do.

Its not so much tanks are not needed, but someone to take agro is.

I play my thief with 15 points in acrobatics so dodging returns some endurance, as well as gaining vigor (endurance regen) with heals. Combining both of these, I’m the guy who goes in head first, pulls agro of a group, and then lives through it while rest of gorup dps them down 1 by 1. I dodge, I heal, I kite. I don’t tank.

I just survive.

hint: pistol offhand = aoe blind for 4 sec, quite helpful for my role.

My necro is broke and you just made me wanna try the thief

And yes i did mean necromancer when i said warlock ^^. Altho i feel warlock would be a much better name considering what the class can do. Most of the weapon skills dont have anything to do with necromancy; debuffing/cursing/marks/whatnot is what warlocks do, not necromancers.

Amen! I think they should just rename the class and build an ACTUAL necromancer class where it raises undead targets that can do his bidding (and maybe just ONE pet vs a horde of useless drool bots)… I’m often worried someone noobier than I is going to run by and report me for chinese plat farming lol

Necro is not a Ranger. Has way more ways to survive and deal damage compared to Rangers, so it wouldn’t be fair to make minions like pets (a minion master could have 5-10 minions at the same time). Necromancer has Death Shroud, Ranger has the Pet bar.
Also, why do you care if the golem attacks mobs? Just let it die. It’s how it is.

Necro minions are still far better then the other types of minions (excluding ranger’s pets), also because they don’t expire like spiritual weapons, elementals or clones.

A little AI improvement doesn’t hurt, I agree, but a minion bar is far too much.

If you don’t like how minions work, just don’t be a minion necromancer. There are a lot of (better) builds that don’t use minions at all (or just have 1-2 to deal free damage and take some hits).

Death Shroud is your strongest weapon, not minions. You’re not Rangers.
If you want to control your minions, give up to Death Shroud (= be a Ranger and charm ugly creatures)

Dude… what are you talking about? The NECROmancer is the one who has a core functionality of using the undead in any way he deems fit… Rangers are more about traps and charming creatures temporarily… You’re thinking of a beast master type of class here buddy lol… get it right stud.

And no… I don’t want a MINION bar… I would LOVE to have a hp bar for my elite pet though! You know… since it’s my elite pet and all… I mean, we have nothing else in that elite build worth putting up. And death shroud is garbage… utterly garbage… It’s my “OMG I’m gonna die” hit it and run away as fast as I can hoping it doesn’t wear off before I can leash the mobs off of me.

I quit Necromancer completely because of how bad minions are all-around. There are almost no redeeming features about minions, and in my eyes, Necromancer itself currently. It’s sad, because I felt Necromancer was the most unique class Guild Wars 1 had to offer, and now its just been tossed to the side and simplified to “Press 6, 7, 8, 9, and 0 to have pets that barely function and repeat on their deaths.”

I’m not interested in wells that have been turned into pseudo Ranger traps, or crappy, boring signets every class is plagued with, or self-inducing conditions (lol), I want Minion Master back.

PS: Death Shroud sucks.

I agree here… it seems that someone has taken rangers best qualities and given necros some slack version of it and taken it away from rangers all together… then taken the necros best qualities and given them to rangers with some weak version to replace it on the necros end… what is wrong with the necromancer? You don’t need to recreate the classes!!! You already created an MMO people enjoy… don’t break it by breaking the classes please.

Sad thing is, IF any devs read this, the response will be “You don’t know what we are trying to do (/ignore this thread)” and just like all other MMOs who’ve done that they will start losing gamers because they thought they new better then the players. It always makes me sad to see. WTB Verant back!!!

To be perfectly honest, I don’t mind the low attack. The issues I’m having are well stated in that they DON’T attack (and since I’ve noticed it I’ve seen that this is well over half of the time)… I LOVE the necromancer class in all games I’ve played as a style of a caster who uses his/her undead servents as fodder basically. Whether they take the damage or deal the damage while I distract the mob never mattered to me, it made it more situational depending on what mobs I was fighting… it made the class unique!

I’ve noticed that GW2, however, has almost nearly taken a big dump on the necro class (this is my uber sad face…)… Cool rangers can “charm” pets in to liking them and becoming their ally… but the ranger is a ranged heavy damage combatant… not a pet master… the necromancer (necro relating to dead things… hello…) is supposed to be raising the undead to do his/her bidding… not to do the undeads bidding…

I’m currently considering dumping the class just got level 50 (another uber sad face) and going with something else… I mean I’m equiped with dual daggers… might as well play a class with more defense… heavy sigh… I’d play a ranger but to be honest I’m quite upset that they got our pets capabilities… it’s dumb…

I’d honestly don’t care about the low damage of the necro pets, because when I can get the three of them to come up and actually attack the mobs we do a great job of cleaning up a fight! It’s when they don’t though, OR when every mob wants to beat on my mutated scorpion (no GUY who says that “some” mobs are designed to do this… this happens with EVERY mob) that my mutated scorpion has some kind of defense/hp if you’re going to make him the tank pet that I can’t pull threat off of… Don’t call it a dot if it lasts about half a second, gets two attacks off, and has a 40 second recast on it because that’s essentially every other fight if my other pets are attacking… if not well then I’m soloing as a necro with no other sustainable dps… so I guess I can sit there and debuff my enemies right? Oh no? Why cause we get 3s and 5s debuffs? Oh… oh okay… well I’ll just hang out over here and consider making a new class then

Considering I have played MMOs for 12 years and generally (with the exception to EQ1 where if someone was sitting down they became top threat priority or if they were below 20% hp) yes I’m saying that if I do more damage I expected more threat. Not really all that irrational. If you’re telling me that some mobs in this specific game are designed to attack a pet (for instance) first then why just this one pet? I have three out at the same time and this one is second in damage to all three. I’m all for “kill at random” but I’m going to need more than “… this is how it is… ignore the gaps that cause it to be an unstable process…”

I just wanted to add something to this:

So the super low hp/defense pet of ours that constantly has agro does 20% less damage than I do in JUST our basic attacks. To add to this I’m opening each fight up with Mark of Blood which is doing even more damage… there is NO reason that I can tell of that this thing should even be pulling threat off of me… ???

I actually came here to post exactly about this! My Flesh Golem should have a pet bar since it IS an elite skill… It is very irritating and costly when you are in the mid level range and you have to keep pumping out silver to repair armor that wouldn’t have broken in this pet would just do as it’s told… or at LEAST give me the capability to tell him to calm down!

I get that having control of all pets is impossible, and I wouldn’t even want that. What I don’t understand is that we don’t one shot stuff like elementalists do or other hard dps classes do, we, as necros, primarily deal in damage over time (which is why I love the class… and the pet!) but since our pet is a “dot” type of damage I’m finding it hard to find real value in something I have to heal constantly. Essentially if my heal is on cooldown, my pet dies, putting my pet on cooldown and having to go at it with mobs with the rock chucker getting beat to snot. URGH! We’re necromancers! We use spells to revitalize the dead to do our bidding! How can we make them do our bidding if they can’t be ordered to do anything?

And don’t sell me that we can tear down a mob with our debuffs because they aren’t that great lol

Primary Request: Make our pets work right if we’re not going to be able to control them please!

Secondary Request: Give us a pet command bar for our elite pet (Flesh Golem)!!! (I don’t even mind the wait until you’ve gotten enough points to get it, makes it funner to get up to that point!!!)

Game still rocks! Would just be better gameplay if one of these two items could be provided.
