The actual opening in the ground. I know it’s a bit hard to see… but I couldn’t get the image with more contrast without photoshopping it.
I was running map completion in Iron Marches and came upon a small “hole” in the ground next to the edge of the map. Falling into it dropped me beneath the map! I do have some knowledge of 3D and level design so I do kinda understand where I ended up and why, but I find it extremely amusing that I was swimming beneath the world. I’m assuming there should be a rock there or something to cover this “hole.” I took plenty of screenshots and know I can go back and do it again if needed to get more.
Isn’t it only Weaponsmith, Artificer and Huntsman at this time? (Weapon makers)
I’m not entirely sure. I’ve been away from the game for a while due to school and work although I had a good idea what was going on while I was gone. Maybe it is just those.
I was going to check my crafting to begin work on the ascended tier (400-500) when I noticed my leatherworking craft still shows the max level at 400. Is this a normal thing or is this just a problem I’m having? It doesn’t seem to make very much sense.
I’m guessing most of the players that are upset about this didn’t play GW1. Anet is a great gaming company, except for one glaring fault. They spend 90% of their time worrying about the loot we get and the quality. They won’t change, it will get worse, they are never happy, and we will never convince them otherwise. If it really upsets ya, then this game is not for you. I don’t like it, but learned to just let it roll off. Oh I’ll complain now and then, but I know it is falling on deaf ears.
It does upset me — and many others — because of the time spent into getting magic find gear due to its usefulness. As I said, I use it to farm for tier 6 mats and to make a little more money on selling the higher end items on the market to spend on other things that are more useful to me.
I don’t believe you have a right to tell me that “this game is not for me.” I really enjoy this game — I love it. But this is a significant change and will cause a lot of chaos no matter how they do it. Completely eliminating magic find in gear and making it only a permanent account-wide bonus is too big of a change to suddenly throw out there at this point in the game. People who spent time and money (gold or gems) on magic find gear are going to lose a lot of their hard work if ArenaNet isn’t careful. It’d be like working and farming for months and spending much gold and laurels to get a legendary and suddenly that legendary is completely removed from the game. Where’d all your hard work go to?
Magic find isn’t a joke to me. It is a very useful tool that I use to farm the higher level mats I’ve been slowly collecting for my legendary. Magic find, however, does not affect chests or the mystic forge. So if you were using it to open chests for better loot — there’s your problem.
My main currently runs with 96% magic find plus the stacks of magic find I get from my greatsword at .6% per kill (max 25). I find significantly more greens and yellows (and exotics on rare occasion) than I do running my main combat armor.
Besides, they plan to change to looting and rewards from Champions as well. Details on that are listed in the blog. They recognize that the rewards are not big enough so they are improving what is chanced for each one. So that’s not even a factor in the magic find issue.
I’m really wanting some sort of response from ArenaNet on either a blog, through a video, or on this post to answer the questions I posted and the ones you all posted. The little tid-bit they gave us was simply throwing fuel onto a blazing fire. And the fact that they said “near future” worries me.
I was just reading the Looking Ahead post and noticed that wonderful little bit about removing magic find from gear….
I. Do. Not. Like.
At all.
I spent a lot of hard earned gold and laurels on a set of magic find gear and accessories in order to pick up better items while I’m running the map and doing random events. I don’t like the idea of losing all that I worked for or the “permanent” boost to an account that’s added to the already permanent boosts I can get from my achievements points.
I need a lot more information from the developers, because this could seriously be a major deterrent for me. As previously stated, I put a lot of work into my magic find gear for when I’m soloing or running with a friend. (For those of you throwing a fit about the unfairness of magic find in groups, no, I do not run in magic find gear when I need the power to assist my group.)
Here’s what I want to know if ArenaNet plans to go through with this.
1. What’s going to happen to the gear and accessories players already have acquired via gold, laurels, or crafting that have the magic find set?
2. Will players be refunded what they put into getting the magic find set or something of equivalent value?
3. How will this affect the current market for magic find gear and the collection of rarer items since their rarity will decrease as players move further into the game?
4. When do you plan to implement this change?
I would really appreciate some answers and more details about this — preferably from someone at ArenaNet, not another player unless they have a reliable source. Feel free to rant along with me players, if you’d like.
Thank you.

Amen!
IMHO what they need to do now is drop the range of the axe to ~600(since the #2 is most effective close range) and increase its dmg so it can be a mix between power and conditions. So it will be longbow=power short-bow=conditions/control and axe=condition/power.
I completely agree with that. High five for Zapperx!
It was probably delayed because they originally did the half arsed job like they did with the sickle and didn’t want to go through that same public outcry and rush to redesign like last time. So they delayed it to make it unique and worth the money. Frankly I think that is a good choice.
My guess, if it gets released while this Aetherblade story is still going it will have a lightning theme. Perhaps a lightning bolt or charge slices through the tree. That would be cool.
Yeah, I was thinking maybe a lightning strike or maybe a tornado or something like that would be fitting…. I can’t wait to see.
They’re not going to respond to you regardless of if it’s aggressive or if you pander to them and give the whole fanboy spiel. Their reason being, they don’t think there is anything wrong with the class and are happy to ignore the majority who say otherwise.
I’m not ignoring what people say. I’m trying to get all the complainers to understand the why of what was done and the fact that it was important. I am, however, still curious about the longbow flaws all the shortbow users keep talking about when they say that it is crap. Which is extremely not true. I use the longbow and deal significant damage and have both before and after the patch. And I am no where near boss at this game. I am only decent.
However, all the shortbow users that lost their range — yeah, it sucks. Get over it. You lost your OP bow. Grow up and learn to use the changes to your advantage because the likelihood of them changing it back is basically zero. You simply have to learn the difference and play like the rest of us.
I’ve no doubt Thiefs who used the stealth skill are all upset and whiny about the changes as well. It was OP and they lost it because of the necessary balancing of the game. Time to learn a different way to play and accept the changes. Simple.
The only class that gained the largest benefits were the Elementals. Because they needed it. The Rangers are not hated. They longbow does not “suck” or have “flaws” in any way that I — or many other longbow users — have noticed.
Being a Ranger takes a certain skill set and play style just like every class. Everyone has their niche. I know I’m not too good at Warrior for some reason and I feel much weaker than others. But I’ve seen some very powerful Warrior characters. Maybe Ranger isn’t your best choice of class if all you can do is complain about an OP weapon being fixed to fit the game.
The thing is, there’s a trade-off for every weapon. The shortbow before was op in comparison to the longbow, making the longbow not worth it. They had nearly the same range (once you’re that far back, just a bit more does not make that significant of a difference), but the shortbow had rapid-fire where the longbow took longer. This left the longbow weaker in comparison.
What they did was balance the weapons for Ranger. To get the rapid-fire, you now have to give up some distance. To gain the distance, you give up rapid-fire. To me, it was a good change. Both player wise and development wise.
the extra 300 for longbow is not insignificant. And if the intent was to make the longbow more desirable then buff the longbow skills, there is nothing in the longbow 5 that gives anything but different ways of doing slow pew pew. Nerfing the shortbow doesn’t make the longbow better.
And the trade off wasn’t for rapid fire (crossfire) it was to the whole weapon, even for different professions, so that isn’t it, you are just trying to make excuses for a really bad update.
Not denying longbow sucks, it still does. But the shortbow was not over powered, it sucked too compared to many other profession weapons.
They need to release a hot fix now to change the Short bow range back to 1200 – it’s not a question. The change was completely unwarranted.
If the longbow is that bad, then fix the kitten longbow and don’t just nerf the short bow – i still can’t believe this happened.
The nerf was needed. The longbow does not need to be fixed. It is not that bad. The shortbow was OP and the range should not be changed back. The change was warranted for balance purposes.
Just no, not even close. Are you REALLY trying to say that the pre-patch longbow was fine? REALLY?
OMG!!
Maybe you should get better at playing a Ranger. The longbow works wonderfully and did before the patch as well. I’m no longer going to argue my point here because it’s clear that all of the complainers about the balance don’t seem to comprehend the necessity of what areanet did with the balance and why it was good. Good day.

IAnd while the patch didn’t change the SB skills besides the range part, now you have to choose between putting yourself at a greater risk by being closer to your foe or staying at the max range and having to deal with the LB flaws.
I still am not understanding what “flaws” of the longbow everyone keeps talking about. I am a longbow user and I have not noticed any flaws. In fact, I can deal significant damage and have good survivability and group skills. Would you please let me know what these “flaws” are?
And you should never… NEVER add power to something in a game to make it equal to something else. Unless it is the only thing that is down. The more you add power to equalize the more it overpowers the game and ruins it. They nerfed the range on the shortbow for good reason and they did a good job with the balancing. They are now balanced.
People didn’t use the longbow not because it itself is weak — mine has a lot of power — but because for bow’s the shortbow was a better option with long range and rapid fire. They fixed the OP problem.
It is the nature of an MMO to have both overpowered and underpowered classes. Overpowered classes exist so that the unskilled masses can still feel like they accomplish something, despite their inability to play the game well. Underpowered classes likewise exist to appease these masses, as well as to give the people who enjoy being an underdog and facing a challenge something to flock to.
Look at the balancing cycle of nearly any MMO in existence, and you will see evidence confirming this. It is entirely intentional, and arguably necessary. Adapt, rise to the challenge, or switch classes if you can’t handle it… But more than anything else: deal with it.
Unless you are a game developer, level designer, programmer, or someone who works in the gaming industry, you have no evidence that they intentionally make classes overpowered and underpowered. They are supposed to be BALANCED.
I am in fact going into a gaming program and I have a friend that is looking for a job in the industry. They aim for balance. You should be able to play every class at an equal level. The strive to be better comes from looking at higher level players or those with more experience. NOT because of the class.
Developers strive for balance. That is fact. They balanced things with that last large patch and they did a great job of it. Yes, things changed. OP things are now average and so are UP things average. All players are equals with the exception of experience. That is how it should be.
I do like the range changes for shortbow however. Realistically a shortbow can not shoot as far as a longbow due to the force exerted by the string itself. So it makes sense to me (as an archer in real life).
Longbow 1500 vs Shortbow 1200, they were not equal before.
Shortbow 900 vs Axe 900 and you don’t see a problem with that?

So apart from noticing the effect of the nerf, you didn’t notice anything!
It isn’t significant enough. My pet just does slightly less critical damage. Before, the damage my pet was doing was higher than what I was doing! And that’s totally not right. So, I’m on board with the current set-up.
I agree with the range change of the shortbow personally. It is a rapid-shot weapon to be used at short-mid range. Longbow is a mid-long range weapon. They were far too close before and now I believe they are just right.
However, I do agree that the “Eagle Eye” trait that increases range by 5% should do so on both the longbow and the shortbow. But I don’t agree with increasing the base range of the shortbow from what it is now. That was a good change.
I have a Ranger as my main and I’ve gotten extremely good at moving while shooting. It takes timing and some pet micro-management, but it is doable. I use the longbow as my main weapon and the greatsword as my secondary.
By having a pet that fights up close, I can shoot and run around a single enemy while dodging others around me. The only move that makes me halt is the LB5 — as you mentioned — and I have to be very careful when I use it to hold my own.
I also use the regenerative health ability, which seems to be far more useful, even in a group, to have. By becoming really good at survivability (which that skill helps), I can make myself be the last one standing and revive another person just in time to keep the team alive while still dealing damage.
It’s not easy… but it isn’t impossible. I do like the range changes for shortbow however. Realistically a shortbow can not shoot as far as a longbow due to the force exerted by the string itself. So it makes sense to me (as an archer in real life).
Me too. Maybe they made it then seen my comment hoping its a form of chainsaw and are reworking it? Lol. But yeah… I did buy gems for it the day before the patch… but I seen the delay and bought a make over kit for my new norn warriors van kitten beard. (New norn beards and tattoos have been added)
I didn’t know about the look updates… curious. I’m very happy with my Norn Ranger’s looks though. She’s a sexy gal, lol. Well, I really hope it’s released soon.
I didn’t notice much of a difference with my build either… with the exception of a little less damage from my pet.
This idea would fix the core difference between ranger and other classes. Our class mechanic is currently an essential part of our class, but for all other classes the class mechanic is an additional part for the class.
I actually really, really don’t like that idea at all. A part of why I chose the Ranger is because of the constant companion at my side. If that became reality, I would likely completely lose interest in my Ranger which is my main character.
The constant companion is something you take on when you choose Ranger — every class has one definable thing that makes them stand out. If the Ranger lost that, it would lose one of it’s biggest purposes. “Summoning” the pet would be terrible and holds the same idea as the Necromancer has for skills. That would completely nerf the Ranger I think.
They let their twitter followers know the axe has been delayed (undefined amount of time) and left the rest of us in the dark.
Well that’s… fun. Dang. I wish they’d said something about it. I was really looking forward to it and seeing what kind of affect it had.
I’ve been waiting for a few days for the release of the Logging Axe after I saw it on the site. I was extremely excited about it’s release because I currently have the Harvesting Sickle and I absolutely love it. However, after days of it not being released or ever mentioned, I went back to the site to see if there were any more updates.
But it seems it has completely vanished. I searched the entire site and the forums and I couldn’t find mention of it anywhere. My friend also saw it on the site — he’s the one who told me about it — so I know I’m not completely crazy.
Does anyone have any idea what happened to it?
I really think this is a great idea. I know for sure that I would utilize it all the time. It would make things so much easier and instead of having to search for the same items over and over again, I could just look at my favorites list — love it.
I’m also working on my Legendary and the supplies I need for it and it’s a real pain to have to search for it every time. I really hope that this is added eventually!
