Actually, in a sense they do. Since this is being caused by a dynamic event, they can rather easily disable the event. That would allow people to continue the live story while they find the cause of the problem.

Of course it is. Everything from American military operations to timezones. All use +/- UTC. (GMT). I live on the West Coast, and to make PDT a standard is just odd. There is nothing West of us (except Alaska) until you hit Hawaii with New Zealand being the next major population. That’s all ocean. Even using Eastern time would make more sense as it is closer to being even with both the EU and West coast. Which probably contains more players than Alaska, Hawaii and New Zealand

Because this is a temporary event. People want to make sure they don’t miss out. If this was a permanent quest line, I’d agree no rush. But since this lasts for a limited amount of time people want to get started, especially if they want to do it on multiple character.
