Very Low fps

My 5 year old early model intel dual core 32 bit PC runs GW2 perfectly. It only suffers the dc problem, normally, after my alts travelled through 6 to 8 zones.

GW2 however suffers latency and lag problems on my new i7 Razor Blade gaming laptop running Windows 8. I don’t think I will be re-cycling my old PC soon even though it is starting to make some funny noise. All movements are fine except there is a delay on all skill activations and interaction with NPCs and environment items. The FPS was also running at 30 FPS out-of-the-box.

I managed to improve the latency problem to a playable level by going into Windows Task Manager (after logging in but before hitting the Play button), select the Details Tab, select GW2 and then change its priority to high. I have tried the ‘Realtime’ priority but I do not see any improvement in latency problem.

I have also experimented various ways to increase FPS (from recommendations in this forums) on my new and powerful laptop (yes, it doesn’t make any sense to me) by

  • changing all graphic card settings to favour 100% performance rather than quality
  • changing the windows 8 power settings to favour 100% performance rather than power saving
  • setting GW2 to run in Windows 7 compatible mode
  • setting in game graphic and sound to favour performance rather than quality

The above settings reduce latency delay and improve FPS from around 30 to around 60-65. This makes GW2 playable on my new i7 Windows 8 laptop, otherwise, I would have to hang my boots up with GW2 once my old PC crashes. However, I still feel that I am not experiencing the same slickness and smoothness of GW2 playing on my 5 year old PC. May be it is because I have been playing on that PC since GW1.
