Thank you, I’ll see if I can get in touch tonight.
Hi,
I’ve just recently started GW2 again after a stint away on WoW to see what Legion was about (didn’t enjoy it!). Before that I was on Wildstar for a year and a bit (did enjoy it but guild moved to WoW) and before that GW2. I’ve re-rolled a new character and looking for a social guild to join, mostly to be part of a community of like minded folks.
I’ve got WoW and Wildstar raid experience but am looking for something more relaxed these days as my game time is severely restricted during the week and evenings.
I’m a bit of a completion freak and enjoy jumping puzzles, helping out in world events and guild runs. I’d consider dungeons / raids at a later stage.
I currently have a lvl 29 Necromancer, 55 ish Mesmer and 58 Elementalist, but enjoy the Necromancer the most. I’m not very good on GW2 stats etc but happy to learn as I go.
Happy to chat to GM’s to check suitability for guilds. I generally game 8pm -10pm some weekdays and Sunday afternoons (GMT).

Thanks BDave, what is your setup like in terms of game file location, OS version etc? I managed to get it to run, but just once with the GTX 970.
My boot SSD isn’t big enough to hold the game data in /Applications, so I tried moving the game folder to another drive which contains all my other games / download / video etc. As soon as I did that I got the same error as when I installed the 970 card.
I’m trying to figure out how to install the game to another drive (not an external one) without having to download the GW2.dat file again. I have the file saved and can copy it into the correct location in the GW2 package.
If I try and run the setup file and install directly to a larger drive the installer runs some updates and then just crashes. It will start the install process fine when installing to /Application though.

FWIW – GW2 Mac client does not run on a Mac Pro with a non-standard graphics card. I tried the GTX 970 and no go. I only got the client to start with the 5770 and GTX 680 cards.
It seems the “macdrv” section in the config file points to the standard OSX graphics drivers for NVidia and ATI cards, it does not pick up the custom NVidia drivers required to run alternative NVidia cards.
All my other Mac games that don’t rely on wine / cider work fine, and very well in fact on the GTX 970.
The GTX 680 produces about 30 fps on high settings at 1920×1200.
Thanks, yeah all those cores and ram are more for Maya than anything else. Don’t fancy rendering animations on a quad core machine…
I don’t have an issue with doing the bootcamp thing at all as I have a Win 8.1 64bit Home license I can transfer from my current pc. I’ll just give Windows a whole 120gb SSD to use and keep OSX and data files completely on different drives.
Is cider like ‘wine’ for linux? I did get GW2 to run on wine under Arch Linux but the textures were often messed up.
I will be going back to a 2012 Mac Pro (6/12 core Xeon) for my day to day use and Maya work, but I also like to play a bit of GW2. The machine will have a 3.42 Ghz Xeon processor with at least 24GB ram. GFX card will be a GTX 970 XFX card. The Mac pro is not listed as supported, just want to make sure it will be OK?
OSX 10.10 at least.
Thanks.
