I prefer GW1’s ranger class as well, but also the necromancer class. For some reason I can’t stand what they’ve done to the necromancer class, the only reason I pick it is because of the numbers I can get using the class in most RPG games.. having my own small army of undead. I mean I can get up to 3 minions but they’re so weak and so unresponsive/bad that it just sucks IMO.
Maybe my opinion on the ranger will change after playing it more though.
I’ve witnessed this as well but I’m still low level and haven’t needed to interrupt specific skills most of the time so it’s not as annoying.. yet. The bar for casting finishes, I watch the arrow hit the enemy, then a second later the effect is put on the enemy, that’s how it seems anyway.. I would imagine that once the arrow that was shot using the casting time hit, the effect would take place.
I could be wrong though, will check on it later again.
What was the nerf done to LB?
I can’t provide any info on what to get because I’m not very knowledgeable on the subject but I do think you’d be better off getting a desk top. I’m sure you have your reasons but a tower would be cheaper so for the same price you could get a better running computer that you can also easily take apart, clean out, and modify.
Yah the game has gotten a lot easier for me, went and reached level 25 last night.. might have played too much, slept in through my alarm clocks and now I’m waiting to see if I’m going to work lol.
I went and bought a bunch of lvl 23 gear from the AH, went with the blue set that gave precision/condition damage because it looked like the best option (especially with the trait that gives a 66% chance for criticals to cause bleed). Updated the weapons as well, then slotted them all with more precision + condition damage.. Almost everything is based around those two stats, maybe not the best idea but it’s been working out great, I’ve been able to steamroll through story quests 3-4 levels above mine no problem.
Though I’m wondering if it was worth it to invest into condition damage so much at such a low level, would it have been better to get power/precision instead? Still though, got a 56% critical rate based on gear alone and I’m seeing bleeds cause a bunch of 30 & 31’s instead of 21’s like before.
I think I’ve got DS down pretty well now, saved myself quite a lot last night with it while farming 4+ level higher areas, the #4 is indeed awesome and I love seeing it cause crits left and right lol. At some points I’d see it total up to 300-400 damage to each monster in the area which I guess is pretty good?
I haven’t really been finding myself needing to lay down traps with my staff but I do when fighting much higher level creatures or veterans, usually I just initiate as quick as possible because I’m not very patient xD.
With well of darkness and my blinding skill that bounces I find it pretty easy to manage groups, just drop the well, do all my AoE’s, and if needed blind them with #4, probably do a dodge before that though so that while they’re blinded I’ll regenerate the 1 bar of endurance.

I’ve been having good success with my scepter/dagger condition build in PvE. I use Consume Conditions, Bone fiend, Well of darkness and Signet of the locust as my utility skills. I use a staff on the side as well so if I really want to tryhard it up I’ll put down a few traps and #5 somewhere off to the side incase I have to run away or avoid aggro they’ll hit it and get feared.
My gear is focused around condition damage but I have a few +Power things as well.
I’m 23 at the moment and I’m being able to farm 24/25/26’s at a good rate without having to stop. I guess that’s good, not sure though b/c I’m new as well.
The PvP aspect of this game has me worried. I was a huge fan of GW and it was mainly because of the PvP, it was just so fun, I remember I could use quite a wide variety of builds, experiment and still be able to compete if I had the skill to more often than not. However when I read threads about PvP like this it seems absolutely broken and the PvE doesn’t even seem that great either, really ending up pretty disappointed overall; especially since I’m strongly against being forced to play few select builds just so you can fight against otherwise certain death.
=/ I hope my experience in PvP ends up being better or this game won’t last long.
Cool thanks for the tips. I went and started my necro up again, I was using scepter/warhorn previously. Went to the trading post and bought improvements in terms of gear and instead of pure power like I had before I got a lot of + condition damage gear and a few + power ones still but better defense ratings. I’m really enjoying the scepter/dagger combo a lot more, #4 is awesome.
Hey there, I’m fairly new to GW2 but I played the first quite a lot and really enjoyed the Necromancer class in it. I’ve always been a fan of spell casters in RPG games. I’m pretty good at dodging, looking through my skills and thinking of the best combos to use in certain situations; I like to think of things in a very tactical manner.
My first character was a necromancer and got him up to level 18 before deciding to try out another class. For the most part I used my utility skills for summoning minions because that’s always been my favorite way to play the class in games and I like having independent DPS that can also serve as a tank if needed. However I thought the class was very squishy and I felt like it didn’t do enough damage in comparison to what I saw others doing. I did try a lot of different weapons and combos, found the dual dagger to be a pretty cool one but didn’t like how I had to be in the thicket of the battle to do damage with the daggers; just so squishy, I’ll try building him to have more vitality/toughness if I go back to it and see how it is.
Then I tried Elementalist because it looked like a lot of fun but I found it to be lacking as well kind of for the same reason, then went to wWw to see how it was at level 80 and it failed to impress me. I’ve been reading posts about the class on here for quite awhile now and most seem to think it’s playable (of course) but it’s more difficult to achieve things with the class, I like having some difficulty but I hate playing the most kittened classes in games, usually I like to aim for the most balanced ones that are spell casters if possible. Only got the Elementalist to teen levels as well so I feel like I haven’t dedicated enough time to really learn either class to their fullest but felt like trying another class.
This time I went with the Warrior class, wanting the ability to tank more damage but be lethal at the same time. Very surprised, the game is much, much easier with this class and got it up to 17 now. I’m fighting enemies my level or higher in mobs and laughing at how stupidly easy the guy mows them down with the greatsword, situations where I know I’d be rolling left and right with one of my other classes trying to barely pull off a victory. Now it seems too easy and makes me feel like the other two classes were infact inferior. Though how could I say that with such limited experience, hardly any PvP, no dungeon experience or anything.
Either way, looking to get back into one of my previous professions because I feel they were more fun to play, even if more difficult. Which do you guys think is the best for a beginner like me? I would most likely stick with PvE until I hit high level and get more experience but PvP was my favorite aspect of the first GW and will most likely get into it later on.
I’m still new to this game but no noob to MMORPG’s, have been gaming since I was a toddler, probably been a game for about 15-16 years now. I consider myself pretty good at dodging I do it all the time and try to safe it for the moves that I know would cause the most damage to me. Started out as a elementalist and necromancer, both of which I thought were too squishy when playing solo, I recall having to play very tactically and plan things really well in order to take on a small group of monsters my level.
Then I made a warrior recently and while I’m loving how much better he is I don’t think it’s fair at all. Obviously I can tank far more damage but with the greatsword I’m doing such an insane amount of damage to multiple units that it makes my DPS on the other two characters look awful. I don’t need to plan my attack or anything with this guy, I can charge in there against a group of monsters higher level than me, buff myself out with power skills, use #2 and take them all out quick and with ease. I have used the hammer, shield and mace, and just about every other combination of weapons to find the ones I like the most and I thought Hammer was pretty cool because I could interrupt abilities and keep the enemy knocked down, and shield + mace for it’s constant stunning but ever since trying the greatsword I don’t feel a need to do such things, at least in low level PvE.
Far easier to play than Necromancer and Elementalist I find. Then again I’m still new to this game and haven’t tried every build in PvE or PvP.
I’m thinking I’ll switch back to one of the two because I find those classes more interesting to play and hope that ANet show’s them some love. Probably go necromancer.

I’m still far from level 80 but I like to use it as a support weapon. Usually I use the rifle when playing solo unless it’s a mission where I have some NPC’s that can tank and hold the enemies in one location for awhile. In that case I use the bow and only use #3 and F1 abilities, switch to my greatsword and go to work from there. I definitely wouldn’t use the bow as a primary weapon, just something that’s nice to pull out for a bit of AoE damage before charging in. With the healing signet if I get damaged really bad I can get away, let my allies take some aggro and throw down some AoE while I regenerate.
