TPvP once there is a ranking system...

Thanks for your replies guys.

Kage: I know where you are coming from with ranked and unranked matches – I have played my fair share of games with this kind of system. What I think GW2 does differently (and better than most games) is that it rewards you for literally everything that you do, and so I don’t really see a place for unranked matches in this game.

I believe the devs are smart enough to create a system that rewards players’ rank based on every game that they play, whether in the form of spvp, or free/paid tpvp. Or maybe my views are too utopian…time will tell. Either way, thanks for your contribution.

Nevir: I totally get what you’re saying. Competitive teams would definitely (and are currently) crushing free tournaments. However, I think that if there is less risk to join paid tournaments, this will encourage more players to participate. If the admission was lowered, this would encourage more solo/duo/trio players to participate in paid tournaments, while at the same time encourage competitive teams to get 5 of their best together and join (because they know there is more chance to face pubs rather than other 5v5s – if they are new to the game/lower ranked).

I’m not sure if I’m making myself clear, but essentially the idea is: lower the cost to encourage more solo/duo players to join paid tourney queues, which will lead to more teams (as a solo/duo team, your goal should be to get 3rd or 4th for the 4 tickets and chest – that’s at least double the earnings from what you initially invested). More teams also means easier victories for the very competitive teams (until they get higher ranked, where most of the teams will most likely be 5v5 premade).

Hope that clears a few things up, and thanks for your contribution as well. Great ideas – let’s keep em coming!

TPvP once there is a ranking system...

Hey guys,

After reading many posts on the forum, it is clear that the community is demanding a ranking system for TPvP (and for very legit reasons). While it is unfortunate that Anet did not have the foresight to prepare this ranking system prior to the community’s disappointment, I am absolutely positive that they are doing as much as they can to implement a ranking system. They read the forums as we do, and they understand their community’s needs very well. Surely they now see the benefits of a ranking system, and are working tirelessly to give the community what it needs. Have some patience, as it will take time – but rest assured, they are working on it.

That being said, in order to help the devs create the best possible ranking system for the game, I believe that we should come together as a community and propose how the ranking system should be molded to our needs/desires. Again, I believe the devs know that a ranking system is needed, but rather than being REactive to what they produce, can we not be PROactive and help them create the best possible system? After all, we are the ones playing the game and the devs should know what we want to see once the ranking system is released.

To kick start this discussion, I would like to propose a simple, yet effective, way of enabling the “solo” player to participate and be more involved in TPvP: reduce the price of tournament tickets for creating a roster. How might that look? Simple: the cost is proportional to the amount of people on your roster. I.e. if you are solo-queuing, it only costs you 1 ticket to submit your roster. If you have two people, then it costs 2 per player; 3 tickets for 3 people; 4 tickets for 4; and finally the current system: 5 tickets for 5 players (or a full team).

I know that personally I would be more inclined to spending 1 ticket to solo-queue if there is a guarantee that I will be playing with players of the same calibre (hence why the ranking system must first be in place). And I also think that this balances out the risk-reward system better than the current one (where you stand next to no chance to win queuing as a solo, and it still costs you the same price to queue as a full premade).

So what changes would you like to see once there is a ranking system in place. Be proactive.

Thanks!

Guild Information

Vici – pronounced “Vee Chee” from Julius Caesar’s famous quote: Veni, Vidi, Vici – I Came, I Saw, I Conquered.

We are fairly competitive gamers who will be focused on PvP content (both SPvP and WvW), but also love to dabble in PvE when the opportunity presents itself.

Ultimately, we would like to form new friendships and alliances through competitive battle in both the structured and world settings. While we don’t expect to push our teams or realm to the top of the charts, we would like to assert our dominance over trained individuals and teams who stand in our path to victory.

We currently own a dedicated Ventrilo Server – working mic’s are a necessity for competitive play in both SPvP and WvW.

Goals

Form competitive structured 5-man teams for tournament representation. In order to form the best teams possible, experience and knowledge of professions, maps, and strategies will be required. We will run as many 5-man teams as we can, so long as each team is organized, and well-prepared for battle.

Form small, medium, and/or large sized groups for WvW dominance. Our WvW presence can only be based on how many people we can wrangle up for each session, but regardless of our numbers, we will strive to make a noticeable and strategic impact on the battlefield. This can range from small gank squads taking out supply camps, to a horde storming through the lands and knocking down towers and keeps.

Recruiting

If all of the above interests you, and you thirst for the blood of your foes, please let us know immediately so we can help satiate your bloodlust. We are looking for mature members who will represent the guild with respect and honor. We are looking for members who can take direction, but can also be creative on the battlefield. We are looking for players of all skill level, so long as you possess the will to sharpen your blade, as well as your skill, to prove yourself in battle. We are looking for you…

Vigorous Shouts and +healing

Hi Zek,

If it’s any consolation, I’m currently running GS/Longbow in all instances with Power+Precision+Toughness gear on a 20/20/0/30/0 build (using VS and Lung Capacity (20% reduced cd on shouts)).

Eventually I’ll have 6 Runes of the Soldier so each shout removes one condition. I run with “For Great Justice”, “On My Mark”, and “Shake It Off”. Thats 4 conditions that can be removed, or, if rotated correctly, the ability to constantly remove one condition.

IMO the GS+Longbow provide amazing aoe dps, as well as a combo field, blast, projectile, and whirl. It gives you the versatility of being able to range and melee as needed. Don’t underestimate the power of having a ranged weapon at your disposal (even if Longbow doesn’t have as much single-target dps, the combo field that can be created with your burst skill can keep your foes burning forever, not to mention when paired with the combo blast from skill 3, you provide your entire team with Might).

As for the healing with VS – I’m healing for about 1100-1200. When you pair this up with condition removal, I find it to be quite a strong combination.

So yea…I’m absolutely loving this build.

(also, if you want to test out +healing on VS, you can always go to the Heart of the Mists, throw on some pvp gear, and shout your lungs out.)

Cheers!
