This change is awful and deserves the ranting…not to mention pages of actual suggestions already in place before Gaile’s post…
I’ve put many years into the GuildWars universe…my husband and I pre-ordered the first game and bought two copies of every add-on and exapc. We pre-ordered GW2 and purchased two more copies for our older sons.
But in the past year I’ve gotten very jaded with these changes. It feels like one tiny inch forward and three steps back. Trickling of content and more cash shop pushing. I understand needing money. But if you give us things to spend money on…we will. Things like content. I’ve counted 9 areas on Tyria currently not opened. Open only one per year and that’s many years of content. So why the trickle. I have patience and consumer loyalty.
But it only goes so far.
I put spoons in the Mystic Forge and actually got back some items that go toward Treasure Hunt
Heck GW1 even had a party ingame for the GW2 2nd birthday…
Yeah stopped buying gems awhile back. We actually pre-purchased two copies then bought another two copies for our oldest sons cause they wanted to play it too.
I rather miss the GW1 model of buying add-ons. The BL store has taken way too much focus.
I remember the fun I had diving into the game during the beta weekend and headstart. It was exciting, I loved the mechanics and all the “ooh shiny”..
Somehow that’s gotten lost along the way….
For me this isnt even triggered by the latest Feature Patch but the overall trend of late.
I thought the fact there was no ingame mention of the 2nd annivsary to be very telling. Only BL sales. Even GW1 had a party ingame for the GW2 birthday and there was nothing in GW2. Not a whisper ingame. I didn’t expect a huge event, but I dunno. Something. Anything better than silence.
That’s when I really started to worry….
Mob loot drops are now also removed and you get rewards in the end like the S2 Living Story. The rewards seem nice…but take Retriubtion for example. It’s long, you kill alot of undead. You come out with 5 loot bags and two rare custom stat items. I admit they are nice, but dunno…i don’t care for the trend of removing loot drops.
The trend toward more and more Black lion items and very little actual content has pretty much led me to not spending anymore money on the game until there is. Twi years in, I would have hoped for a larger chunk of new area. Why not just open Maguuma. Even if they did that, there is still a substantial amount of map yet to be opened. If they opened one of those new areas per year, that alone is at least 5 years of content, considering Shiverpeaks, Crystal Desert, Woodland Cascades and Ring of Fire, Sea of Janthir.
Maybe hopefully all of Maguuma will be open by the end of December, but somehow I’m doubting it.
I really don’t like the gating either. It takes what was fluid learning experience and breaks it down into forced steps. And strung out. I was dismayed to find out there is no underwater combat at all at first…that was one of the funnest things about learning the game. Diving into the water and being able to fight. Now there is an empty lake in Metrica and no skills. Rally heal not being interupted is awesome. But more skill blocking based on level. Can’t access skill points that are right in front of me in a level 1-5 area. How about move them if you mean to deny people the right to use them.
Still not a fan of the trait system either. Really, the whole system seemed much better on release. Some of the changes are needed…like Rally heal was a worthless skill and now it’s actually able to save you. But others feel heavy handed.
I realize leveling is fast but I do not like all these new restrictions. Only being able to use 3 weapon skills until level 7. Boring. Utlities unlocking later. Again, it just makes combat seem boring.
I really dislike not being able to do skill challenges when I see them in 1-5 level areas. If these are unable to be done, move them please. It’s annoying when I try to systemically clean up a map and know I’ll have to come back later to do something thats RIGHT in front of me. Makes no sense.
Why take out nodes from that area too? It’s almost TOO much hand holding. Seriously, when the game first came out it only took a day or two to figure out the mechanics and crafting.
I turned off the compass as soon as it told my level 4 character she should venture into Diessa Plataue.
The aspects and jumping don’t bother nearly as much as the incredibly short timer on the Aspect skills.
That is just not enjoyable at all for me to not only try to figure out where to go but to also do it in 5 seconds…..
I haven’t read this whole thread but still wanted to put in my own feedback so far on the mega. Apologies if this has been discussed already.
I like the megaservers overall. It’s nice going out exploring and running into people. My only complaint would be I miss the feeling of “home” as well. Maybe a compromise could be found.
Let the major capital cities remain in a home world…this also helps fix the issue we have with calling for reinforcements in WvW.
Ship of Sorrows is on all characters too I believe.
Seems like its all the same. Karka Queen, Ship of Sorrows, Risen Wizard, Lyssa, Grenth.
Having eight characters means I’ll probably end up buying some of the skills, rather than go out hunting for them which is what I was looking forward to doing.
On one hand it gets more people doing Orr. On the other, it makes it feel a bit more grindy than adventuresome.

I had really hoped this would be much more scavenger huntish, much like GW1. I loved skill hunting in GW1. I’m a tad disappointed I have to repeat the same bosses to unlock multiple character skills. Would have been much more fun to have them themed to the class. People would still get them done, esp if tied to already popular/semi popular world bosses, explorable areas, JPs, even major event lines in various maps.
