Stuck in PvP match/queue [merged]

Same here, stuck in Battle of Champions Dusk as well with the timer on -5 minutes and over 600 points for both teams right now. Nothing works – relogging, quitting the game, closing the client completely, joining WvW. No reward, no option to leave, basically can’t do anything else in game other than wait for this to be resolved. An intervention would be nice. :/

Coming back after a while - what to play?

I’m coming back to the game to see what’s new after the expansion and generally mess around. I’m thinking of making a completely new toon and just have a fresh start. Last time I played was probably something like a year ago so I know a lot has changed. I’ll briefly tell you which profs I enjoyed the last time:

Ele – D/D or staff bunker for PvP/WvW; S/F or staff for group PvE
What I liked about ele was the attention it required and the active flow of the whole prof if you get my vibe. It felt really fluid and dynamic, plus it was virtually immortal in PvP scenarios.

Engi – just about every spec for any kind of gameplay I think
Versatility, gadgets, very active playstyle. Just awesome.

Thief – same as above, but never really got into group PvE with my thief
I think the mobility of the prof and just the general theme were always really appealing to me.

Never really got too much into other profs, either felt slow or spammy. I think my general preference here is mobility, versatility, sustainability (if played right), dynamic feel of the prof, active playstyle in all types of play (PvE, PvP, WvW).

Now I imagine GW2 is now a whole different game so I welcome any suggestions on what might be fun for me to play after a long break. Thanks in advance. =)

D/D+SB roaming build help needed

in Thief

JoeVertigo.9236

Hello folks. I’ve recently came back to playing the game and am dusting off my chars. One of them is my thief which I’m very rusty at right now. I’m looking for some help with a roaming build for D/D+SB and yes, it has to be that weapon combination. Keep in mind I won’t be roaming alone but always in a group of 4-5 people. I was thinking I’d be the main stomper and peel off pesky stuff like mesmers. My GW2 knowledge is vastly outdated but so far I’ve been thinking about something like that:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fZAQNAoYVlsMp0pdPxyJ8PNhPBtdAedD4OEX4DdVDA-w

No idea about the gear though. Some zerky stuff for sure, but not sure 100% is such a good idea. Let’s talk exotics here please, can’t really afford ascended gear for more than one char (engi, cough) right now.

Any input is really appreciated. Haven’t played thief for ages.

PvP isn’t really supposed to be random. It’s about outsmarting/outplaying the enemy, kind of like chess. You really should be able to judge at least 2-3 moves ahead depending on what you’re playing and once you take the time to figure out their playstyle/build (which takes about 10 seconds max)

And smart PvPers are more than able to do that, I don’t see the issue. And there’s still a lot of randomness in this game.

I’m afraid you guys are overestimating the average player here. It’s not about people not having instructions, it’s about their will to learn the ropes. Some folks just don’t care, that doesn’t make them stupid, just a bit annoying if they’re on your team. I have no idea how teamQ works because I don’t play it, but I join soloQ fully aware that I should expect all kinds of random. Get over it.

There’s already a screen explaining how the map works, it pops up every time you join a match. What else do you want? A huge red arrow showing where you should run now?

Oh, and I constantly see some people whining during matches how it’s somebody else’s fault we’re losing. Yeah, because it’s never your own. Come on.

Also, what bracket do people have in mind when they refer to “MMR hell”, huh?

that’d be the case if they had like in Elder Scrolls games where if you’re low on endurance you kinda limped a bit or looked more sluggish that showed that your energy was low. That’d be really cool.

You can’t know everything. The thing that defines the fun of PvP is the random element.

And I thought I was bad in PvP.

One of the reasons some people love PvP in GW2 is that the whole combat flow stays true to what the devs promised before launch. “You should be fighting your enemy, not your UI.” Seriously, if you don’t like it there’s already a game out there you should be playing. Stop forcing solution from other titles just because you think they define how an MMORPG should be made. The beauty of GW2 is that it’s different. I see that on every forum of every MMO, it’s disheartening really. People are terribly close-minded and want to homogenize everything they touch.

And no, adding any kind of endurance indicators, enemy cast bars, huge buff icons popping into your eyes doesn’t add to skill cap. Quite contrary, the fact that some folks feel it’s needed only shows how unwilling they are to admit they might not be as great at this game as they would like to think. For the record, I myself am not that good, but I know that room for improvement is in reading enemies, combat, movement, builds and so on and not in adding UI elements flooding my screen.

If you don’t know what the enemy is doing it’s not the game’s fault. It’s yours.

The problem with matchmaking allowing only one prof on a team is an outrage on warrior or necro forums that they have to wait 2h for a match.

Playing some over the top, easy to jump in builds is hardly competitive. And I’m not even saying that nobody shouldn’t play this or that. It’s just all that buzz around the skill/effectiveness ratio for some builds is basically an invitation for most people to play certain specs. Most people only care about winning, not about the competition itself.

It was soloQ. Also, Skyhammer. Just found it funny really.

Actually I believe matchmaking is not the problem here. It’s the general community perception of “OPness” of certain professions and/or builds that results with some classes being more represented than others. And while the game has some balance problems we mostly have ourselves to blame for shouting “nerf this, nerf that” and putting the “meta” builds all over the internet. Just sayin’.

So apparently it’s believed that this number represents the percentage of population in arenas that are ranked lower than you. But if that’s the case how come if this number goes down there’s a green arrow pointing up next to it saying “+5%” or so? Simple bug on the site or are people getting the percentage number all wrong?

LF server with decent WvW

I put [EU] in the title of the thread but removed it afterwards. After thinking about it I don’t think I care which servers are we talking about, especially that a lot of people report no lag issues when playing on “non-native” servers.

Yeah, I wouldn’t say “most” EU servers have stable presence throughout the day. And once current season is over there’s gonna be another one (?) at some point so I wouldn’t worry about that in the long run. If it’s not achievement hunters it’s jumping puzzle taxi raids or other hilarious stuff.

I guess you guys unconsciously gave me an advice to move from EU to NA servers where the playing hours might be somewhat evened out throughout the day. Would that be correct?

Seeing how SoR is kinda in the middle of Gold League, I’d expect noticeable queues, is this assumption wrong here?

Also, I have no idea why would anyone in their right mind pay several thousand gold for a single guy changing servers, but I’d sure embrace such opportunity.

And by decent I really only have two things in mind:

1. Low queues. I’m sure there’s some great WvW on top servers, but it’s irrelevant to me if I have to wait 60mins to be able to join in.
2. 24/7 action. What I mean by that is that I want to log on in the middle of the night or early in the morning and actually be able to do something and not just run away from enemy zergs.

I really don’t care about winning or losing. I don’t care about “mature community”, because the term doesn’t mean anything. I don’t care about karma trains because nobody forces me to join them. I don’t care about server celebrities and “cutesy events”. I just want to hop in, have some roaming fun, join some sieges and have the feeling that at most times of the day (and night) guilds, randoms, roamers and commanders are actually trying to push forward.

Any recommendations would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Gunnar's Hold - insane WvW, sound community

You might be a seasoned borderlands lone wolf roamer. Maybe you’re a ruffian commando squad looking for fights just outside Stonemist Castle. You could also be a highly tactical and organized guild loyally following your commander into the heat of battle. Or you’re just an average Joe like me.

In any case you might have your reasons to be looking for a new home in this virtual mad world. If WvW is your game, if you feel a rush of blood to the head when charging alone into a group of defenders or if you like to spend your time methodically planning siege layout then we might have a new place for you. If you enjoy some proper laughs on voicecomms or if you try to stay away from drama and mockery and prefer a more mature environment* Gunnar’s Hold* could be the way to go for you.

Gunnar’s Hold is a european server with a very solid core of guilds, teams and solo players that have been here for the good and for the bad. We’re experienced, bold and laid-back. You’ll see us do the craziest things in WvW, because what we lack in numbers we make up in creativity. We’re as effective as we are entertaining.

On Gunnar’s Hold nobody is a nameless pawn in a soul-less zergy war machine. Here a team of three people can be a force to reckon with. Hell, a lot of us can make a huge difference alone. So if you’re tired of being powerless unless being a part of a large group or want to make an impact as a small guild Gunnar’s Hold could be the ideal server for you.

We’re pretty strong during our prime-time, which is around 7:00 PM GMT to 1:00 AM GMT. While we welcome everyone to join us for fights and giggles in that time of the day we’d be very happy to have more people online outside of this bracket. We’d be much more effective with a proper night and morning crew.

Gunnar’s Hold coordinates the war and fun effort via community site and a 1000 slot mumble server. If you want to say hi or just have a look around feel free to drop by at:

www.gunnars-hold.eu

If you have any questions or would just like to have a chat feel free to contact:

Catatonic Inertia from Midnight Mayhem [MM]
Tichai from Legacy of [MARA]
Waanderer from Rise of the Reborns [RotR]
Nidhogg Twicenamed from Vitas [VS]

See you on the battlefield, whether you’re gonna be friend or foe.

Elementalist forever?

in Elementalist

Posted by: JoeVertigo.9236

JoeVertigo.9236

My name is Joe and I’m an Elementalist.

Well, at least it seems this way. My main is a double dagger elementalist, although I don’t shy away from staff. I don’t care much for PvE and I find sPvP (hot-join) pretty boring in the long run. I focus on WvW while doing some free tournaments as a random (no team unfortunately). I’m not exactly the best player in the world but I think I’m doing just alright with my ele. I make a lot of mistakes but I have my small victories too.

What makes the ele so fun to me is the challenge that can be very rewarding paired with the profession’s absolutely insane dynamics (I’m talking pure visual / motion aspect here). There’s no skill spam here, which is something I try to stay away from. You can stay in the heat of the battle for pretty much as long as your concentration and skill will allow you. Although there is some run-n-gun-like gameplay involved it’s not about unloading your burst and getting the hell out of there. All in all I feel sturdy, mobile and never out of ideas. It’s a fresh, dynamic (can’t stress this enough) and rewarding experience.

What’s the problem then? Well, I’ve been trying to level some alts lately and I just can’t stomach any of them. Everything feels so static and uninspired compared to D/D ele it just blows my mind. Granted, your experience with a given profession is only as good as your knowledge about it, especially that we’re talking WvW / tPvP here. Still, it’s hard getting into all in and outs of a profession if you just don’t enjoy it.

So the question here is this. Is there any other profession / build combo anyone thinks I might enjoy? There’s myriads of possibilities here, I’m probably not familiar with every single (viable) build in the game. Could there be something out there that matches the ele’s dynamic and challenging gameplay? You know, something that can stay in the fight pretty much forever while not being a bunker? Something that’s engaging and takes more than 2 buttons to be effective? Or should I just stick to the ele and stop even trying to play anything else?

PS. I’m posting this here because if someone hasn’t played D/D ele extensively they won’t really grasp what I’m talking about here.

Need a hand with build/gear for WvW

in Elementalist

Posted by: JoeVertigo.9236

JoeVertigo.9236

Here’s the thing. I’m playing a 0/0/10/30/30 for both staff and D/D. I’m roaming around WvW solo with daggers and support my team with staff. I have full Cleric gear. I’m really tanky but obviously my damage is not that great. I was thinking that maybe full Cleric is overkill and I should swap around some gear to be able to take people down faster. No idea really where to start because there’s no proper way to test various gear combos unfortunately, any advice would be appreciated.

I really need a trait distribution that works for both D/D and staff. If you can convince me to change my current traits go ahead but currently I don’t really see any other option.

PS. No, I’m not gonna re-roll.

Gear for P/D?

I’ve gone for Carrion in all slots including jewelry. For the Sigils, I’m using Agony for bleed duration on the pistol, and for offhand, using Corruption, to get the stacking condition damage with every kill. Been working well for me.

Working well in solo PvE or WvW?

Gear for P/D?

in Thief

Posted by: JoeVertigo.9236

JoeVertigo.9236

Lately I’ve been messing around with a P/D build (30/0/20/20/0) in pretty much all the aspects of game and I’m loving it. So far I geared myself with all Carrion armor and weapons, Undead runes, Force sigils, blah blah. Do you think going for the WvW accessories, so Power+Vitality+Toughness is a defensive overkill? Maybe I should just get everything Carrion and just learn to be even more hard to hit?

Any input appreciated, thanks.
