Show conditions/boons on our pets?

This seems like it would be so simple to implement, and it would help with the class’ intended theme of pet management. How can I manage my pet in combat if I don’t have easy access to information on what’s affecting it?

My Greatest Fear Plotline

I just wanted to provide an update since it’s been a while.

  • We are currently working to restore the Greatest Fear storyline to the live game. I can’t provide a release date at this point.
  • In addition to restoring the Personal Story steps to their original order we’re making some minor improvements where possible (e.g. recording new VO or updating certain conversations, etc.).

We’ll provide additional details closer to release. Thanks much for your patience.

That’s all well and good. Nice to know you are getting down to fixing it. Now, that just leaves the issue on characters who have been through the botched PS. Will you by some chance, make it replayable like you did with the Living Story? Because if I have to grind my charr character just to see the fixed version, that’s just bullcrap. :/

The Personal Story was never designed to be replayable on a single character, so making a change like that would involve a lot of revision (updating and testing hundreds of story steps). It’s simply out of scope.

The updated story steps will start with A Light in the Darkness.

This is just unacceptable, though. You’re telling me that I’ve ruined my chances of ever experiencing the full personal story and having a correct and complete story journal for my main character because I didn’t think to research whether or not personal story arcs were just incompetently REMOVED from the game before I continued my story? This is your fault, not mine. But I am the one getting punished.

If you can’t reset stories to the greatest fear, I would even accept a full personal story reset to biography and do the work of getting my character back up to that part of the story. I’d also even pay for such a service in the gemstore. I’ll wait for HoT for it too. Just give me SOME option other than rerolling my main. Please.

Make another character, problem solved. I’m just happy they’re fixing the problem. And please don’t start talking about what’s “unacceptable.” Most of us are bummed that the characters we already played through won’t get a chance at the original storyline, but we’re accepting it just fine.

Map Completion - I finally did it.

Nice job! I’ve been working on and off on my map completion for what feels like forever now, so I can only imagine what it feels like to be done. Also, I’ve been taking screenshots of all my Vista views, too! I might dump them all somewhere for viewing when I’m done.

Thank you so much for this! With the new expansion coming out soon, I was worried any issues with the original Personal Story would be overlooked and forgotten. I can’t stress enough how interesting the Greatest Fear storyline was when I first played it through, and I’m glad we’ll all get the chance to continue those missions.

Also, kudos on recording new VO! I’ve heard updating dialogue with new material can be a lengthy and expensive process, and it really shows some commitment to the game’s existing content to take those steps while tackling an expansion.

I’ve been playing since launch (hell, I was playing since the BETA events), and this was probably the worst move Anet could have done for the PS, period. I’ve taken the changes to the trait system in stride, even enjoyed it sometimes considering it’s pushed me to do interesting events I never would have bothered with before. I can even live with the scrambled restructuring of some of the later chapters (even if I believe story should always come first, THEN mechanics like level gating). But I can never accept the outright butchering Anet did to the Personal Story by removing the Greatest Fear segments.

I was lucky enough to play through all three, and they were all easily the part of the Personal Story I looked forward to the most. Not joining an Order. Not working with master of monotone Trahearne. Not even killing an Elder Dragon. I wanted to see fallibility in my characters to really connect with the game, and the Greatest Fear segments were one of (if not the only) parts that actually did that for me. Losing Tonn, Apatia’s death and the shock of discovering I took a mortar to my own troops helped cement the notion that my character was capable of making mistakes, and as Commander of the Pact the consequences of those mistakes could be huge.

This is a massive chunk of content removed for not only new players, but veteran players like me who want to continue making characters and enjoy the full experience the game previously had to offer. I can’t even find a substantial reason why they would remove the content (And no, making the PS fit better into a new and largely unnecessary level gating system is not a substantial reason).

Given Anet’s 5-month failure to shed light on the issue, I’ve started to doubt their claims to being committed to their own story or to what’s proven to be a loyal community of players. This is the type of blunder that makes me want to use my limited power as a consumer and file a report to the Better Business Bureau (under the argument of removing substantial content I originally paid for at the game’s launch). I know it probably wouldn’t lead to much if a single report were filed or even be a legally strong argument, but I’m not sure what else I can do if Anet refuses to listen to their own forums.

Choppy Graphics when moving Camera

in Account & Technical Support

So I’ve been having troubles ever since the last patch like many other players, as well, except the problem isn’t skill lag for me. When I log on to my characters, it seems like certain graphics and textures take longer to load. When I try moving the camera, all I get is choppy motion instead of the fluid graphics I’ve had ever since I started playing in the beta events and well into release. My skills and movement don’t have any lag, but it visually feels impossible to play the game.

I’ve tried turning all the graphics settings in the game down to their lowest levels to no avail (I can usually play on the highest settings without problems). I’ve updated all my drivers, checked my internet connection (it’s fine), done multiple virus sweeps, checked my firewall/antivirus settings, re-installed the game and turned off all other non-essential background processes once to see if anything would happen. So far, the issue’s still here.

My only guess is that it has something to do with the last patch. I’ve never had an issue with graphics or even connectivity before this, so I’m stumped. Is there anything I’ve missed? I need some help here.

Elementalist or Necro?

I’m making a new character and can’t decide if I want to go ele or necro. I like the playstyles/skills for both, but the necro seems like it would get old fast while the ele has its trademark squishiness. Suggestions?

Favorite Class for Norn?

I’ve been trying to make a norn for awhile now, but I can’t decide on which class to commit to. Does anybody have some suggestions on class choices that really “clicked” with their norn characters? Specifically, I’m worried about character animations, voice clips when using skills, and the overall feel of the race/class combo. Ideas?

Crafting Profession for necro

So far I’ve never had any issue keeping up with my character’s level gear-wise, and I love crafting my own bags…but is tailoring the only decent thing for a necro? There has to be something else.

So what’s a decent crafting profession for a necro? I know tailoring is an obvious choice, but I already have another character on that and I don’t want to do the same thing twice. Suggestions?
