Thanks so far guys.
@ Wiser with Age: Thanks man, that’s really a great and helpful post! It’s basically got everything I wanted in a response. Thanks again.
@ Vitu: Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate your response and it definately has something to consider if you’re into aesthetics. But I’m not. However, your point about the lack of detail on Asura gear is a good one, which I might consider, but probably not.. hehe
Thanks again =)
But that’s where guild wars differs from other MMO’s. Once a week you have a free server transfer (if it’s not unlimited?) so you can just transfer to another server that is not full.
If it’s because you REALLY REALLY want to play on the server that your friend is on, feel free to transfer back 1 week later when population is lower (or 1600000 weeks later if that’s what it takes).
I hope you’re not too disheartened, because this game is really a joy, I believe – and I hope to spread the word. Besides, this game is like 3-4 months old only – compare it to the 8 years of WoW (and continued imbalance) and you’ll see Guild Wars 2 is really not that bad, even despite all the criticism it’s been getting from it’s players.
I also played Guild Wars 1 and that was also very fun.
edit: And hey, play with me, I don’t have a lot of people to play with either, and I’m currently on Ring of Fire which is not full (last I checked, anyways).
Asura or Charr?
More specifically: I’ve tried humans to around level 20. It was meh (to me, please correct me if it gets awesome).
I’m not ever going to play Sylvari, even if it’s fun/good/well-written. I just don’t like them.
I’m currently playing my Norn Elementalist and I’m loving it! I love the areas, I love the stories (especially because they involve the main antagonist so much – through the Sons of Svanir especially). So yeah, I’m pretty good there!
Now, that leaves Charr & Asura. I’ve tried none of them. I’ve heard many people say Charr areas are great and looks great. Don’t know about the story.
I know nothing about Asura and their story/areas.
I want to know which race I should pick, based (mainly) on…
Areas and their looks (Are they well-designed?)
The general story (Is it well-written, or does it leave much to be desired? What’s the atmosphere? What is each race fighting? …Like Norns are fighting Sons of Svanir and humans are fighting Centaurs)
The personal story (now, I know it changes depending on what you picked during creation, but there’s a main story that doesn’t change no matter what you pick. Afaik the picks you make in beginning only changes the main storyline slightly – correct me if I’m wrong! but I don’t think choosing “Poor” to “Noble” if you’re human changes the main story).
Tell me your up’s and down’s of these races, their environment, their story and so on and so forth & I’ll be grateful!
Please leave out stuff like “Asura are ugly” or “charr got pelts” or whatever. Aesthetics don’t bother me.
To be honest – and I know the PvP is pretty repetitive atm – I say to you: Have faith, have patience!
I played GW1 and it had very good PvP aspects. Like, crazy good.
Compared to WoW which has a focus on PvE, Guild Wars has a strong focus on PvP. I know this is kinda shallow, but tbh: The game is called GUILD WARS. In GW1 there actually were GUILD wars. Guilds going up against guilds, and surely they’ll implement something like that again. I’m not saying a complete copy-cat, but they’ll figure something out.
Besides, remember that the developers are called “ArenaNet”. Everything (PvP-wise)about this game is gonna be alright.
People are impatient. This game has been out for less than 1/2 a year and it’s running well. Not perfectly, but well.
WoW has been out for what, like 8 years or something, and they still have problems balancing things out, making end-game content hard (like it was in Vanilla or w/e). And they have a huge problem with PvP balance (where only 3v3 seemed balanced in a minor way, back when I played). And WoW has more than 7-and-a-half years of experience on their own game.
ArenaNet just made a completely new game, accessible to millions of people, and you expect awesomeness in the first few months? C’mon.
