I have put together a video to help some people who might have trouble with the jumping puzzle for this year’s Winter’s Day event. It shows all three paths and what to expect as you’re going through the event.
The guide is more basic in nature, so most of you probably already know the information in here, but I had at least one friend that wasn’t even aware of how to move the camera, so I thought I’d include it.
If you don’t like doing these events but want to see what it’s like, stop on by, you can see what the rest of us had to deal with

Please tell me you’re kidding! There is a price for being first when it comes to things like games and tech gadgets. You get the use of that device/game earlier than others who choose to wait. The opportunity to use it sooner rather than later is worth something. If you don’t want to pay the higher price, then wait until it goes on sale…but don’t come on here asking for money back or some type of free upgrade.
And make sure you never buy a new car, since it will lose 20% of its value as soon as you drive it off the lot.
I think the problem here is that the game is not really going down in price. The game is going on SALE for Black Friday and will be going back to full price afterwards. The problem is this same sale is not being offered to the existing playerbase.
I honestly think a lot of people wouldn’t care as much if the Digital Upgrade offered in the BLTC were to be discounted by ~50-70% like many other items on the BLTC are right now.
I think it would be silly to just give it to everyone for free, not when money can be made for Arenanet, but the truth is they could make much more money by offering a sale. Look at Steam, every time something goes on sale the sales go through the roof and they make MORE money from charging LESS. It also lets your customers feel like you care about them and are giving them something.
Of course if the game was permanently going down in price, I would still expect the upgrade to go down in price. Not free, mind you, but a price reduction of the full procduct should also have a price reduction to upgrades of its parts by a similar ratio.
I’d say my biggest issue with this is that existing customers are still asked to pay for a full price on the BLTC for the Digital Upgrade. It seems kind of silly especially when the BLTC is offering some high discounts for Black Friday.
I don’t expect Arenanet to give us free copies of the DDX, but I think it’s only fair to give a discount to those who’ve already paid. I honestly don’t even care that much about what is being offered, I stand by this more on principle. Offering incentives to new customers while neglecting your existing customers is not a good way to grow your fanbase and keep your product strong.
I fully agree that players that have been around for awhile should expect some depreciation for the money they’ve spent, but it’s truely sad to see that they just brough in a bunch of new players (a friend of mine included) who could have just waited to get this deal. It shows lack of foresight and those new customers are not going to easily forget this when they consider future purchases.
