thoughness and vitality are both important. It is right a bear can take more damage of higher lvled mobs… but when u just fight low lvl or weak trash mobs.. a dog gets so low damage it doesnt even matters.
For leveling fast I would suggest put the next 5 points in Marksmanship (the opening strike is awsome) and focus then on Beastmastery. After you got tier 2 traits… focus on BM (a bleeding drake or cat can kill most mobs faster then you) and since you want to stay close range continue on BM and try your luck with WS and Natures Magic. Depending on the PVE build you use. Also keep in mind reseting your traits in Lionsarch before you reach lvl 80 is so extrem cheap try different things. Focus on skills you like and use traits for them. When you love to use survival skills use Wilderness Knowledge from WS. So it’s fully up to you.
And just to let you know as I tested out different traits during my pre-80-levels Beastmaster tier 2 is awsome in PvE.

since I leveled to 80 about 2 weeks ago and got some nice infos from my guild I want to share them with you.
First what to aim for : nice looking armor / weapons … or in other words exotic / legendary shinys. What exactly you should seek for you can choose yourself… when you like close combat more focus on thoughness / vitality .. and so on. What exact armor /weapon you should try to get is your personal choice since where would be the fun if you dont figure things out yourself. XD

Second, farm money.. an easy way I found for myself farm alpine minotaurs or do the Orr-events. Alpine Minotaur often drops vials of blood you can sell for a good price. And Orr-events to get rare items to mystic forge them.

Third , focus on your own nice build. I have a build similar to yours (20/20/0/0/30) just with sb / ax/horn … and works perfectly in PVE especialy since I change weapons pretty often. For your skills try to get every skill as soon as possible and try them out all… with time you find your personal preference for your specific playstyle. And for your traits.. since a skill reset isnt that expensive just try out different builds. My hint for that… choose 1 Mastertrait and build around that. So you may discover even new builds no one has ever seen. (got 2 pretty cool builds this way myself no one uses )

As tips for your build… healing spring + combo finisher / sb + QZ.
And while you are in close combat fight try out a ranged pet… you drive every boss crazy with it XD

For PvE madness… focus on AOE skills, or get piercing arrows and use sb + spirits.

This is a well known bug, that when you and your pet are not on the same altitude it sometimes doesnt do anything. So far I just experienced it with my drakes… all other pets worked for me, but maybe I’m just lucky.

Also the devs. said they know the issue too and it’s on there to-do-list. Since the next month may be hold a new ranger pet-system, they may fix that problem too with it.
