Doesn’t matter, Chrono will still be best at Quickness and Alacrity distribution.
“I’m not QQing here, I’m just speculating”
Um.. you’re entire post is QQ content.
Vengeful Hammers are pretty good now guys. Just stay away from walls though as per usual. :P
Also PSA: If you’re gonna delete your Revs make sure to salvage/bank what you can first!
Still too expensive energy usage
Disagree. The energy cost for hammers is fine. By the time you are almost out of energy, you need to swap back to Glint anyway. It’s the other skills with Jalis that need major reduction in energy costs.
Im almost satisfied with rev buffs but still waiting ventari tablet to move with me like spirit weapons. Skill 6 would be like command skill and i can manually move tablet. Then i think that mallyx elite needed some buffs and staff 2 faster interrupt. But its not bad update just not enough.
It’s not bad because it didn’t nerf the rev even further?
To be fair. Revs didn’t receive any nerfs this time around, and objectively received buffs. Having said that, they literally slapped duct tape on a sinking ship. It’s better than nothing, but isn’t going to do anything.
Strange, I am quite happy with my Rev in open world PvE and in Fractals.
Yup. Revs are fine for open world/Fractals and even raids, but comparatively speaking, Revs is the worst overall class. They provide literally nothing to the table that other classes cannot, and other classes do it better.
For me personally, Rev is cool, because it is relatively simple to play it in PvE, Fractals and Raids.
I am relatively older player (52 y.o.) and I hate complex rotations etc.So far I have:
1. Tempest – very good class, but low health and dying too frequently in Raids/Dungs
2. Druid – nice and very good for solo in PvE
3. Condi necro – also OK, but nothing fancy in Raids after nerf last year.
4. Revenant – I really like this class
5. PS Warrior – I really do not like this class.
6. Chrono – too complex for me
And I’m glad that you feel this way! Play the class you most enjoy! That is by far the most important thing.
Having said that, please understand why other Rev players, especially those that main this class are upset. This class is fine for solo play, but never ideal/wanted for structured group play.
Need DPS? Ele, Thiefs, Ranger, Guardian, Engi are better
Need Support? Chrono, Druid, PS War, are better
Need Heals? Druid, Ele, are better
Need Tank? Revs can’t tank despite Jalis (cause Jalis is trash).
As a rev main you can calm down; we never wanted this and as a whole we are still going to get melted against a condi mesmer, plus don’t expect to see many revs this upcoming season anyways since they did not address what most of us were asking for anyways.
That’s part of our frustration. This change won’t make ventari a relevant legend, so there wasn’t even a point in giving away alacrity to it in the first place.
Agreed. Ventari did not need alacrity. They needed a complete overhaul, but that simply won’t happen. Giving them Alacrity is a duct tape solution at best.

Mesmer get’s screwed over at every single patch so i’m not surprised this time.
hahahahahahahahaha.. hahaha .. Please..
Not trying to be offensive, but it legit made me laugh.
Have Mes/Chronos received nerfs in the past? Absolutely, but so has every single other class. You cannot even compare the state of Mesmers to the state of Revenants at the moment. One is top tier, the other is trash tier. I’ll let you guess which one is which.

You forget one important detail on mesmer balance:
- We’ve been looking to improve the support role for the revenant. Alacrity will now be available through the Salvation specialization line, allowing Ventari’s Tablet to project it at a constant rate.
and just like that, 1 year down the line, our CLASS SPECIFIC buff is not class specific anymore
well played ANet
What the actual kitten ANet? If ventari was underperforming on Rev then you needed to rework it, not give away chronos unique effect. This is absolute bullkitten. Why do other classes get to keep their unique effects? Why wasn’t GotL given away? Why wasn’t spotter or Engies new effect, or banners given to more classes? Why is it that only chrono isn’t allowed to have an unique effect? Why?
C’mon.. Mesmers/Chrono somehow someway dodges any nerfs, and received buffs instead. Now that’s bullkitten. You are still the only reliable source of quickness for groups, which to me is the signature of Chronos.
Ventari has been utter trash since it’s existence, and giving them alacrity isn’t by any means going to make them relevant.
Revs are a decent choice for Fractals. You will not have any trouble finding a group.
For Raids, Revs are viable, but not part of the so called Meta. You’ll have difficulty pugging, but in a guild, this shouldn’t be a problem as long as the guild accepts that you will be a Rev for raids.
Glad to see players trying something different rather than Meta!
I’ve actually tried a hybrid Power + Condi Rev, and found the following the most effective:
Viper armor (all)
Marauder trinkets (hard to get, so feel free to substitute for Knights, etc.)
Berzerker weapons
Celestials I would avoid. Yes it provides the most stats, but ends up being lackluster in all fields.
Despite being completely irrelevant in all PVE content, and utter trash for end game, I still stick to it for one simple fact: It is far more fun than Power Shiro/Jalis/Glint.
I would like the option to use Racials for Revs, but doesn’t look like that will happen. Racials are underpowered though, so you’re not missing much aside from flavor.
Maybe they can implement at stance-less option for Revs, where you can select from Racials.
I disagree with what people said about using the shield for PvE content… If you really want to use a shield, for I dunno aesthetic reasons for running a sword and shield(?), then of course do what makes you happy, but it’s sort of a useless choice for raids/fractals.
The axe is meta, not because of the teleport, but because of its contribution to break bar damage and ability to collect small adds for cleaving (temporal rift.) I can’t stress how useful this is… As revenant, you’re always going to be on “team breakbar” because it’s one of the few things we do better than most of the other professions and in a lot of fights axe-5+sword-2+Chaotic Release is enough to break the bar. That means that you don’t have to swap to staff and be stuck without your sword auto attack spam for 10 seconds. And grouping adds can be put to great use in several of the encounters.
That utility aside, if you really want a defensive option, you’re still better off going with sword/sword… The healing from shield 4 or 5 is pretty inconsequential if you’re wearing full zerker’s gear, and if you need protection you can just pulse facet of chaos and then swap stances or let your energy deplete to turn it off w/o putting it on 30 second cooldown. And as for the shield block, it blocks for 3 seconds with a 25 second cooldown… The sword on the other hand blocks for 2 seconds every 15 seconds and offers some contribution to breakbar damage with immobilize on 4 and the pull on 5 (although it moves you horribly out of position.) So, I mean, in conclusion, if you want a defensive option in PvE, it’s much better to have a shorter block on a shorter cooldown as there’s never a situation where you need to just face block something for 3 seconds. Plus, you can move while blocking with the sword, which is invaluable.
Agreed, but OP asked about whether Shield is a viable weapon, and it absolutely is. Yes, Axe is meta, and Sword OH is likely the better choice, but this doesn’t make Shield a detriment.
They are two different items. So don’t worrry
If you really enjoy Rev (I’ll admit, this class can be infuriating at times due to the number of bugs), but would like to raid, find yourself a raiding guild. Many pugs simply won’t accept a Revenant given the current state of the game.
Worst case, play another class just for the raiding scene. Ideally a Warrior, so when you have ascended gear, you can share this among the two characters. Warriors are essentially a lock in all raid comps.
As “unviable” as we claim Condi Rev to be, it is still a lot of fun, and EXTREMELY COOL looking. This IS Fashion Wars 2 right?
Hi There!
Glad to see the interest you have in playing Revenant.
Revenant’s state isn’t NEARLY as bad as you would otherwise conclude by reading forums/reddit. Yes, they’re no longer OP. Yes, there are no longer part of what most try hards call META. Revenant is truly an average class today.
Having said that, Revenant is absolutely viable in all PVE content. Low level Fractals can be finished by any class, and virtually any sensible build, so no concerns there, but Revenants are fully capable of clearing all Fractal difficulties.
As for raids, Revenants are not considered for speed runs, but still fully viable. Unfortunately, most groups will not take this class simply because it isn’t optimal, but in reality, the differences between having a Rev vs another Thief/Ele etc. are irrelevant for the absolute majority of groups. It’s unfortunate most players think: Rev not optimal for speed runs? = Rev dead class.
Shield are absolutely fine for Rev. Axe is often preferred because Axe#4 is a extremely effective gap closer, and Axe#5 adds some level of CC. Shields are suitable for more defensive styles of play with healing/prot on #4, and block on #5. DPS wise, neither axe or shield is part of your rotation. In other words. either is fine.
Staff is one of Revenant’s iconic weapons due to Staff#5, but in no way is it necessary. If your group requires additional CC/condi cleanse, Staff is irreplaceable, but Hammer is Revenant’s only ranged option, and a VERY good one at that for PVE. It isn’t usually ideal for fractals or raids, but extremely useful for open world content.
Although possible, it isn’t recommended to run a condition heavy build at the moment for Revenant. Our condition damage relies heavily on torment (which is IMO the worst condition for PVE, but powerful for PVP). Mobs in vanilla and HOT maps simply don’t maneuver all that much to take significant damage from torment.
I highly recommend using a Power variant build. OR, if you wish to play something different, Ventari Rev is quite a lot of fun, though clunky at times.
I’ll assume you do not have HOT due to the lack of Herald in your suggested build (Herald is an absolute must for ANY build), so here’s my suggestion:

Sword/Axe should be your primary. Good damage and some level of CC. You can swap Axe with shield if you wish to be more defensive.
Hammer can be swapped with staff. Hammer gives you a ranged option witch is extremely helpful in many situation. Staff provides the infamous CC on Staff5 (good for raids/fractals).
Scholar runes can be swapped with something else if it is too expensive for you.
Thank You everyone for taking time and sharing their thoughts!
Seems like Necro is a good starting point!
Hello!
My girlfriend would like to share her time with me in Guild Wars 2. Color me ecstatic!
However, we are having a touch decision on which class she should roll. She has never played a game in her life (but wants to be expose to it via GW2), so we need a class that is simple yet enjoyable. Something she can easily pick up and understand, cause trust me, WASD keys alone confuse her.
To give further background, I currently play a full zerk Guardian at 80. I would like to start a new character to leveling alongside her, so we may share our experiences. Any ideas on what I should roll?
Many thanks in advance!
