I have something to ask cause I want to figure out a few things for myself.
What do you people do when you’re getting ganked by 5 people as a Warrior? Frankly speaking, do you accept defeat or do you find a way around it?
You have the highest armour/toughness, the highest vitality and the highest damage output in the game (maybe only second to glass cannon ele/guardian). When built correctly you have stability for 16 seconds, which means no cc can lock you down. You also have a trait that makes all movement skills break stun and if you build properly you get 3 of those in 1 build. You should have the ability to break out of any fight, if you want to. That being said, if I’m alone and I see 5 people coming, I run.. no matter what profession I am. The only professions, who will stand a chance at stalling the inevitable and juggle more than 3 people are necro, guardian and engineer. It’s not by chance that those are the best point defenders =). I would add that a hammer warrior has really good control as well and would stand the best chance of surviving such an onslaught long enough to get help, but, of course, you can’t expect to run into a furball with 5 enemies alone and get out alive. If anyone could do that, there would be something inherently wrong with the game.
Why don’t you people take a look at Team Paradigm’s Moldran and his videos? I bet you could learn a thing or two that would help you feel a little less useless
Google is your friend here..
his videos are pre-launch aren’t they….not that the build is not useful now but it’s not as effective
They’re also mostly HB builds against other Warriors or people that don’t know what they’re doing.
The build is still very powerful, last I checked. As for people not knowing, what they are doing – what do you think the current spvp scene consists of almost entirely? What other reason would there be for the constant and incessant whining about HS thieves forcing anet to nerf it, when there are millions of simple and obvious counters to it? People need to learn how to play. Warrior gets more difficult the higher up the ranks you get, undoubtedly, but for spvp, it’s still one of the strongest. People just haven’t caught on to it yet.

Well, you play keepaway with shortbow. I’m happy it’s working out for you. Kudos for thinking “outside the box”, the “box” being your typical backstab/hs spam that seems to be the only thing 90% of thieves out there are capable of doing. People have not gotten to the point, where they complain about our escape possibilities yet, but rather HS glass cannon builds. What I described applies to 99% of those playing that build. Thieves playing defensively in spvp right now are far and few. Most won’t even know how to pick their fight, but rather, bolstered by the awesomeness that is HS, will seek to engage any fight they come across. All that needs to happen is that they start dieing to cc and counters.
For PvE try maxing out your bleed damage. That’s what I roll and it absolutely destroys mobs. 1, 3 or 5 doesn’t matter. The more, the merrier. Build for mobility, evasion and condition damage rather than duration. Hint: Caltrops are your friend
^ I’d like to see that build =) Pm it, if you wish. I try to play more balanced thieves as well. Always on the lookout for different builds.
As for the op, I fully agree that thieves are NOT op. People are crying about it, because atm it’s fotm. It will be until people wisen up and start using their cc’s on all the glass cannon hs spammers out there. Once people up their game, it will get a lot tougher for thieves and only the good players will stay with it. The rest will migrate to something else.
Patience. The game’s been out 2 weeks! They did say they would add more game modes down the road, but I don’t expect them in several months. Conquest tired and tedious.. lol. After 2 weeks.. yeah, you probably played every single beta/stress test there ever was, but seriously now..
Tbh I don’t really see how a death match would even work in this game. You have no healers, meaning people would bunch up and go for a furball in the middle, focussing targets down in a massive dps fest. Does that sound fun to you? We already have that, btw – it’s called WvW. CTF could be nice.
There are much bigger issues with this game atm than pvp, such as account hacking, server issues, grouping, trading post, etc. Pvp is in a pretty good place right now. Good enough that it does not need any immediate attention. I agree with 1, 4, 5, 7, but I disagree with the doomsday scenario.

Cloak and Dagger is 6 initiative, which is half of a standard initiative bar and just under half, when traited. Add in the Revealed debuff that stops stealth for 3 seconds and it’s not THAT frequent. You actually need to LAND C&D in order to stealth as well, which is not always the easiest thing to do vs skilled players. If you miss it, bye bye 6 initiative.
What people fail to realize about Heartseeker spamming thieves is that these guys are utter pushovers. They run around with 10-14k health and < 1000 toughness. Look at them wrong and they crumple. Congrats, you win. Instead of going on the defensive against HS spamming thieves, try going on the offensive. If you get multiple thieves on you, then you are probably dead – try to gtfo. If that fails, after you die, be on the lookout for them and avoid them unless you have the numbers to confront them.
Adapt people. Glass cannons are just, what the name implies. Throw 1 cc on them, hit them hard and they will be history.

In sPvP you gain Rank.
In WvW you gain Xp.
If you want to level your character doing pvp, WvW achieves that for you. In sPvP you are already auto-levelled to 80 and have everything unlocked to level the playing field. It’s a separate world from pve and doesn’t care what level you are.
