IMO, the worst thing is the sigils and the runes that almost do not drop anymore.
I believe you can get these at the vendor in the Crown Pavilion who does the present wrapping?
I think one of the fundamental issues I have with the difficulty to get this item is the fact that Wintersday has been entirely centred around it. Once a curious player has opened that collection, every bit of Wintersday you do rewards you with something that is a part of or reminder of that particular collection. Other parts of the collection are fairly challenging in themselves to people who came on to play for fun and not to spam buttons and then insult others who don’t have the time at this time of year to only be on Guild Wars.
Winter’s Presence is in your face all the time. It doesn’t feel like just a side piece that someone can go for if they have the willpower. I have never felt the need to complain about the attainability of an item before, but at Wintersday it feels Grawnchy. Even with the karma farming parts, staying up for hours last night and only getting about 300 gifts, a measly few percent of the insane achievement is simply mean.
I don’t see any merit in being able to say “look at how much I was willing to torture myself with repetitive tasks without a break to get some snow falling on my head”. At least the rest of the parts of the collection you can say to yourself “I collected all these things / I managed that jumping puzzle / I succeeded at something”. I don’t care what people have to say with regard to “well you don’t deserve it then” or “don’t be a cry-baby”. I think the sheer weight of what’s required is against the spirit of Wintersday and it’s, frankly, an abysmal and dreary way to encourage players to spend time in game.
Furthermore, having all the karma boost items only usable by level 80 characters is a big kick in the face to anyone getting the game at this time of year.
I have to say I am also extremely disappointed in the threshold for this achievement. I understand where people are coming from regarding grind being somewhat of an expected endeavour to gain special things in Guild Wars but it’s frankly depressing. I have other things I want to do with my life at Christmastime and it would make more sense to place 1,000-5000 as the absolute max. The persistent Bell Choiring is setting off my RSI. I’ve put in so many hours and I’m only at 1.2k. I do not have the time or in-game gold to purchase it any other way than grind (which doesn’t even look achievable).
It’s just going to be that people who do get the skin won’t feel like “good for you, you did awesome”, more like “wow, your literal life is spamming keys”. Like many others I will have to hope that enough people give up that booze is cheaper, unless this threshold is adjusted.
Really? That definitely works? Not that I have much to lose!
Edit: I’m a big fat dummie that can’t even read. Thank you so much!

Hello! I don’t know if anything could be done to adjust soulbound Zenith skins to account bound. I selected a skin for my achievement reward, mistakenly believing I’d be able to pass it on to another one of my characters, not the one I logged in on… and now I have an unusable reward skin, a completely obsolete reward. It’s soulbound to a character that can’t use it and unless I’m being silly (feasible), I don’t believe I could attach this to a weapon for another character as transmutation also soulbinds.
Please help if you can. I’m so miffed I lost my reward over something I didn’t understand =C
