I just solo’d on my necro with his conditiondmg/toughness/precision kit.
Took down the plunderers then legged it to lose aggro. Rinse repeat.
I found that I could just chill out next to the mortar fellas for a while before anyone came to get me so that was pretty convenient. Had 2000 gold left at the end. Was an easy run but I would have sworn it impossible when I first tried it.
I did the first 3 with absolute ease on my necro (power, tough, vit) who is admittedly very well geared. The fourth I only tried once and was horrible but maybe not impossible.
Don’t worry too much about defending the gold – it doesn’t go very fast, just do what’s safe. You can interrupt the carriers with CC and I never came close to losing that way.
Third wave has vets but they don’t really deal heavy damage. The looters also seem to be infrequent – I actually found this tier easier than the second. I think tanking up and/or having some pets helps a lot.
