Strange "Grid" graphics glitch

I am experiencing a graphics glitch right above my minimap that looks like a grid, or similarly looks like MissingNo. It is not static, but animated, frequently flashing and re-organizing the pixels. It doesn’t happen everywhere, but it does happen frequently and is usually on hill or mountainous terrain.

I have the GTX 1070 Nvidia GPU and up to date on all my drivers.

Rights and Wrongs of HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Before I start with a high-level overview of what’s “right and wrong” with HoT, I want to say GG to ANET. You guys made an amazing expansion that’s incredibly feature and content rich. We, the loyal players, truly appreciate all the hard work that you’ve done with this expansion.

First, I want to go over everything that I feel’s right in HoT.

Elite Specializations:

Elite Specializations are absolutely amazing. The entire concept completely refines a class’s gameplay mechanics and adds several different ways to play a specific class. You no longer have to follow a “zerker meta” in order to be “good” at the game.

Mastery System:

These feel right in so many ways. Masteries truly bring a new feeling of character progression. The new Legendary System, Mentoring, Fractal Masteries, Gliding, etc… I can’t wait to see all the new masteries that ANET will release. With so many added benefits, you should be craving to have all the masteries for your account.

New Maps:

These maps are freakin’ gorgeous! There’s so much detail that was put into these maps. At first, I was a little worried that ANET would only be releasing 4 new maps. I was scared that I’d be able to breeze through every single map, complete them 100%, and think to myself “why did I buy this game”? I was wrong. These maps are MASSIVE. It feels incredibly rewarding to explore an area 10 times, and still be able to find new content.
4) Gliding:
Do I need to say anything about this? Gliding is one of my favorite features with the XPAC. I constantly find myself falling off cliffs in dungeons and core Tyria, completely forgetting that Gliding is not available in the core maps (hint hint).

WvW:

I do a lot of WvW. Like, a lot. WvW has been one of my favorite things in the game. I’m happy that ANET revamped the borderlands, and also changed specific features like NPCs that guard the camps. It adds more of a team initiative than previously. Roaming is still completely viable, but really emphasizes guild or friend co-op.

Fractals:

To be honest, it’s about kitten time. I never really had the time to farm fractals. Spending 1-2 hours on a run was a waste of time for me. By lowering the Fractals down to 1 per level, I feel like I enjoy them much more. I’m not too experienced in Fractals, so I don’t know too much about the loot changes, but I’m incredibly happy with what I’ve experienced so far.

Guild Halls:
‘nuff said.

Whats wrong with HoT:
The worst thing about HoT… Grind:

HoT is a grind. Period. I’ve read most of the posts on the forums about HoT grind. Some people defend it, saying “It makes you feel like you earned your elite specialization or your mastery”, or “have you played another MMO that has grinds? This is nothing like that”. Well, hate to break it to ya, but you’re wrong. HoT is ALL about the grind. You have to complete the same event over and over again to get your masteries. The experience is minimal at best, and literally requires you to spend hours to build your masteries up just to be able to play the game. Even the elite specializations are a grind… I honestly feel like the grinding aspect is a slap in the face to us.

Elite Specializations:

Like I had mentioned, I love the specializations. They’re great! The only thing wrong with them is actually acquiring it. Trust me, I get it. You earned your elite specialization by grinding out the Hero Points through map completion, wvw… whatever. My issue is using hero points to begin with. If your specialization is supposed to be Elite, then why do we have to grind out the Hero Points? I don’t even care that you have to get 400 hero points. It’s a pain to get 400 of them, but whatever. Why not have “Elite Hero Points”, that are only acquired through a specific collection or progression? Why not make it into a story? I don’t feel like I’ve “earned” my elite specialization when I have to find 400 hero points. I really wish the elite specialization would be unlocked by completing a quest or the main HoT personal story.

Difficulty:

Obviously, some things need to be scaled down a bit. I’m not saying that you should nerf the entire game to make it imba for the QQers of the game. I’m talking about the events that seem impossible (Tarir), the damage of some of the mobs (a pocket raptor hits me for 1.3k on a Soldiers Guard?), etc. I don’t mind the Champion HP’s or even most of the mobs, but some things need to be scaled down to cater to solo players. I hardly play solo, and I haven’t had much problem with the difficulty when you have 3+ players with you. I just don’t think it’s appropriate for a map to almost require 2 or more players to complete. I would expect Difficulty in Raids, but not in a story based PvE map where people just want to play the game. The scaling system needs a serious revamp if you want to cater to the casual players.

I could get into way more about the “rights and wrongs” of HoT, but I’ll sum the entire frustration of the players up into a couple sentences.

“In Guild Wars 1, you progress by playing the story. In Guild Wars 2, you can’t play the story until you progress”.

So far, I thoroughly enjoy HoT. I’m excited for the changes and updates to come!

Disclaimer
None of this should be taken as QQ. All of these points are simply my opinion, and are debatable. If you don’t agree with something said on the post, please explain why. What do you like and what don’t you like? How can GW2 improve? Let’s make this an intellectual thread rather than “hate thiz game be seeing ya back to WoW lollllll”.

Norn Starting Area Bugged

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

After you create your character, the Norn starting area (tutorial?) is bugged. You cannot get past the fighting event “Join the festive moot brawl”. It just keeps spawning creatures.

But hey, ya know, instead of trying to play and enjoy my Norn, I guess I’ll just grind to level 80 off of these Furflies.

And yes, I have already guested to another server. Due to the awesomeness of the megaserver, it’s the exact same thing.

Anet, please fix this ASAP. I’ve already seen multiple threads about this.

I see a lot of posts saying “It’s an MMO, get other people, blah blah blah”. That’s not what an MMO is supposed to be about.

What if all starting areas were like this? Would you play the game? Would you enjoy being 2 shotted by a Wurm or a Moa? Absolutely not. I do understand that the Karka are supposed to be a challenging enemy, however, saying “Play like me because I’m better than you and I can do it and Karka aren’t hard /troll” doesn’t necessarily make me want to play the game. The karka should be a fun experiences for all players, of all classes. An ele got 1 shotted by the dreadful volley those Karka have. Do you think it’s fun trying to kill something like that, only to have to pay a waypoint fee and repair your armor right afterwards?

I play a warrior, and I can kill the Karka, but it’s too risky to spend my time killing an enemy that has a super high defense, and an even higher attack. Its extreme risk for little profit.

IMO: This event is a waste of time.
