No casual players in some events?

First, let me say that I AM a casual player. I have several thousand hours in GW1, enjoyed the heck out of it, but there were areas that I was just not good enough for. I’ve been with GW2 since the last beta and love it. But my highest character is in the 50s and I was playing the end event with a level 41 thief. It at least had a full skill bar, but I’m thinking that upping its level to 80 still left it under-powered and under-armored compared to the real level 80s in the event. Battling in a huge mob was a rush – at least when I wasn’t seeing several seconds between a button push and the action happening. But, maybe keeping people like me out of a few (not all or even most) events would be good:
– Fewer players might make the event run smoother?
– The people with a full set of level 80 characters care more than I do – at least about the most elite stuff – I have no idea what a precursor is or why I want one.

The Halloween maze was fun because it was fast to get out and get back in. Perfect for a casual player. The last event was a several hour battle against overwhelming odds and if you had to portal somewhere and run back, well, this was an area (for me anyway) tough to travel alone in. I’m guessing many casual players dropped out, but I was stubborn, tried to pull my weight and made it (with the help of many others) all the way to the ramp and got stampeded by hatchlings, then couldn’t get back in.

Was I overall a plus to the event? Don’t know. This should be as much “what can you contribute?” as “what’s in the chest?” .

Should this have been a “seniors” event? What do you think?

No chest for me, but other players were great

Died on the ramp stampeded by hatchling karkas and got separated from the “zerg”. Probably only had another five minutes till the end and the chest. Given I was in constant stream of hatchling karkas, rezz was pretty much impossible. I tried going to the waypoint to see if I could walk back, but the little circle has been spinning for at least 15 minutes now.

I must admit that the other players were really into the “nobody gets left behind” philosophy. Seriously – I saw many, many deaths from people trying to rezz other players under heavy fire. Attached is a scene from early in the evening. A few players managed to recover the crowd of downed players and everybody just kept going.

I think most made it to the end.

How about area(s) to test our computers?

We definitely have different machines, mine is an older AMD 5200+ machine with an older AMD 5670 video card. Hers is a baby Dell Xenon server with a mid-range AMD 6700 video card. Pretty sure it’s time for me to put in at least a new video card.

I’m seeing the same problem – started today. And to be clear – after the incorrect password message and getting kicked out of the game, I can log back in with the same password and continue playing. My anti-virus is up to date and I enabled email account authentication when it first came on line.

If you provided us with an area designed to stress our computers – I don’t know, maybe a ton of monsters leaping about firing AOE spells with no damage or something – then we would have a gauge to measure if we needed a new video card, cpu, whatever.

AND, since it would be an area up all the time, there would be no question that the problem was our machine and not server lag, software bugs, etc. Might help tech support a little.

I play side by side with my daughter and in yesterday’s giant melee with the karka, I was struggling with even seeing the karka in the pile of people, was annoyed with delays firing off skills, etc. I looked at my daughter’s screen and it was much better – the frame rate was higher, the battle was much easier to see who was who, and while she said she was laggy, I think she had a much better response time. Same network, same server, we logged in the same time, etc.

Just a thought.
